Disney bans smoking in all hotels

Just read where Walt Disney World has banned smoking totally at all Disney hotels. And not just in the rooms but on the balconies as well. How wonderful is that! No more getting stuck with a room that smells like an ashtray. And this was done due to customer demand. Less than 4% of their rooms were being reserved for smokers. Hope this is a trend.

That balcony ban is a good one. I've been bothered greatly by people smoking on their balcony directly below my open doors or windows.

That 4% sounds like the same kinds of numbers Marriott put out when they made all their domestic rooms non-smoking.

The costs figures Marriott put out for ongoing maintenance of smoking rooms were even more impressive.

Always good news when clean air wins.I talked to a friend in Ireland today who said the entire coountry went totally smoke free yesterday. Awesome.

I'm fine with that, but I keep wondering when someone is going to advertise an ALL-SMOKING hotel, just for smokers (and charge more).
I mean, doesn't it make sense that if you're a smoker, you'll stay where they allow it?

An "all smoking" hotel would fail miserably, and quickly.

Well done Disney!

I've always heard that even smokers hate smoking rooms because they just reek, so I'm not sure an all-smoking hotel would take off.

This is great news and is becoming a trend. Several major hotel chains have also gone non-smoking.

Plus, this must save them tons of money in maintenance.

I think this is great news!

We just stayed in a 100% non smoking hotel in Seattle, and that is becoming something I look for in hotels. Even one we have booked in Paris for this summer is nonsmoking. I like this direction that hotels are taking.

LLindaC May 2nd, 2007 11:52 AM

I look for it, too...btw, Hyatt will guarantee you a non-smoking room if you request it on their website.

I've never heard that smokers hate smoking rooms. Maybe we can get some smokers to comments on that. Smokers?
Gekko: why would an all-smoking hotel fail miserably?
And how many times can you get the word smoker/smoking into one post?

j_999_9:

As far as smoker's opinions might go? My S/O is a smoker and he will not stay in a smoking room. Can't stand the smell. He would rather take an elevator down several stories, walk through a lobby, and stand outside the hotel in freezing weather to have a smoke in a non-smoking hotel rather than spending even the shortest amount of time in a smoking room.
