Check out Santa Fe, New Mexico. (http://www.santafe.org) You'll have to fly into Albuquerque, but Santa Fe is only a 45-min. scenic drive north. I've been there 7 times and still haven't done everything I want to do! There's plenty of hiking, art galleries, great food, funky shops and even a fun and diverse nightlife. And within an hour's drive in all directions, you can explore Native American ruins and pueblos, hot springs, red rock country and more. It's definitely a cool place to visit and I can't wait to go back.

Thanks, Heidi. I'll be watching your post below for a Sedona vs. Santa Fe response also. Santa Fe says temperatures in the low 80's for June. That I can live with--I just assumed NM would have temps in the 100+, which would keep us inside!

The fact that northern New Mexico has four seasons surprises most people. I live in Michigan and several times last summer it was hotter here than in Santa Fe! And even when it's really hot in Santa Fe, it's a dry heat and it usually cools off quite a bit at night. I think southern New Mexico is a whole lot hotter though, but I've never been south of Albuquergue.

I can't stand Apple Farm (SLO). Think Grandma's doilies for decor.

Madonna Inn would be different. OK, I don't really recommend it unless you are into quirky.

Alisal Ranch in Solvang is very nice. And close by to the Santa Ynez wineries.

Sycamore Springs has accomodations, or can be used as a day spa.

Did no one mention Ojai? Spa focus. Ojai Oaks, Ojai Valley Inn & Spa.

Most people like Apple Farm, which is why I added it to my list. I personally think it's overated, although they are looking more for upscale and I listed the ones I knew in SLO. I'm a Travelodge, Best Western and Vagabond Inn gal. LOL. :-)

My favorirte places to go during the summer are ski towns. Especially if you enjoy hiking and biking and spa'ing!

Try vail (easy to get to), or even Park City. Generally the condos are reasonable for a few gals during the summer.

Tahoe would be a great choice that time of year. It is in the mountains and the skies are very clear. North Shore is classier feeling and the Hyatt is right on the lake. They have some condo/townhouse accomodations that would be fun for a group. Squaw Valley is the other upscale possibility and I think they have a spa now.

For Tahoe, flights are in/out of Reno and it is a 45 minute drive from there. You can search this board for threads on activities. Shakespeare on the beach at Sand Harbor is fun. Very good golf, lots of dining options. Side trips to Truckee and to South Lake Tahoe would be fun. You can be as active or relaxed as you want. Only thing lacking would be lots of shopping, if you are into that.

Forgot to add that Napa/Sonoma would be my other choice. The weather, dining, nightlife, etc. would fit the bill. Great day spas with mud baths, too.
