DC/MD/VA GTG in the Fall, Lunch on Oct. 3

It's been awhile since there has been a DC/MD/VA GTG. We're thinking of having one at the end of September or beginning of October. Weekends that look good are the weekend of Sept 26/27 or Oct 3/4. Please respond here if you are interested in joining us & your date preference. I have also posted in the Lounge.

JanetKMR Jun 29th, 2015 12:28 PM

I am interested! Oct 3/4 is better for me.

LouisaH Jun 29th, 2015 01:27 PM

Definitely overdue for a DC area GTG!

Both weekends work with slight preference for October 3/4.

Janet, hope you can make it!

jubilada Jun 29th, 2015 02:20 PM

No can do but sad:(

basingstoke2 Jun 29th, 2015 06:04 PM

Either of the dates look good. Count me in.

santamonica Jun 30th, 2015 03:26 AM

Slight preference Oct 3,4. Thanks!

gruezi Jun 30th, 2015 05:39 AM

Will hope to be there but won't vote on a weekend because I'm not sure what works.

Dukey1 Jun 30th, 2015 07:42 AM

There is someone who is prominently missing from this whole thing? What happened to her?

yestravel Jun 30th, 2015 08:16 AM

Who? if you give a name we might know the whereabouts.

basingstoke2 Jun 30th, 2015 08:55 AM

Dukey - I think you are referring to St Cirq who as I understand has moved to France. She used to organize these things. TDudette is also not on this particular thread but has been working on the GTG too.

yestravel Jun 30th, 2015 10:59 AM

Yes, StCirq moved with her husband to the Dordogne. As she mentioned on this board she owned a home there and her plans had always been to eventually move there. They left DC in April.

TDudette Jun 30th, 2015 12:19 PM

Both dates fine for me, TDudette. Thanks for posting this, yestravel.

schlegal1 Jun 30th, 2015 02:00 PM

Both dates would be great for me.

yestravel Jun 30th, 2015 02:36 PM

Great. Would love to meet you, schlegal. Didn't you got to Ecuador?

Suki Jun 30th, 2015 03:20 PM

I will try to make this gtg as well. I have a daughter in Baltimore so I"ll have a place to stay for the weekend.

deladeb Jul 1st, 2015 08:53 PM

Both dates work for me.

flpab Jul 2nd, 2015 09:40 AM

Dang. Dog show is 9,10 and 11. Would have been fun.

LilyP53 Jul 10th, 2015 05:33 PM

I think that either weekend should work for me too, and I would love to attend if at all possible!

schlegal1 Jul 11th, 2015 04:27 AM

Yes, I did yestravel. I am looking forward to meeting you, too--I think there was another country we both did in close succession. Maybe Thailand/Cambodia?

yestravel Jul 11th, 2015 07:07 AM

schlegal - yes, I think we followed you to Thailand and Cambodia and also Chile?

I'm going to wait a few weeks and then pick the date based on the responses. It looks pretty evenly split.

yestravel Jul 22nd, 2015 07:29 AM

Everyone mark your calendars - Let's plan for Saturday, October 3 for a lunchtime GTG. Any suggestions for a place would be appreciated. Sure wish there was an edit feature so I could add it to the title. Wonder if the monitors/editors would do that.

TDudette Jul 22nd, 2015 07:34 AM

Mark me down!

I have volunteered to do name tags.

LouisaH Jul 22nd, 2015 07:45 AM

Great, thanks for the update. I bet the editors would edit the title if you asked them, probably by flagging your thread.

Regarding a place, I know one challenge we had last time was getting a separate room for a group especially since in the planning stages we weren't sure how many were coming.

TDudette, thanks for name tags!

yestravel Jul 22nd, 2015 07:50 AM

Pls let me know if you prefer a place near a metro or if you will be driving. That will help with picking a venue. Also if you are bringing anyone with you. Thanks!

MarnieWDC Jul 22nd, 2015 07:56 AM

I do plan to be there...look forward to seeing youall. StCirq is active on the French Fodors Fora... no surprise. Maybe she'll be coming back to WDC for a visit in October ? We can ask.

Thank you, Yestravel, for organizing this.

Elizabeth_S Jul 22nd, 2015 08:07 AM

Wish we could attend!

yestravel Jul 22nd, 2015 08:20 AM

Thanks Megan for adding the date to the title.

Elizabeth_S - come on down! Be a nice weeknd getaway for you all.

elberko Jul 22nd, 2015 08:54 AM

I'm tempted.
Consider me a maybe for now.

Elizabeth_S Jul 22nd, 2015 09:03 AM

Too soon to travel after Richard's bionic knee job, sadly.

JanetKMR Jul 22nd, 2015 11:11 AM

I plan to be there....depending on location and time, I may take the train but I probably will drive.

I will not be bringing anyone.

girlonthego is interested as well...you may want to update with the date in the Lounge.

santamonica Jul 22nd, 2015 11:20 AM

Thanks Yes for getting this started. If we can't find a nice alternative, we could have the gtg the same place we went last time. We'll dust the baseboards again.

kja Jul 22nd, 2015 03:47 PM

I don't know if I can come, and probably won't for a while, but you might look at options for private areas at either Petits Plats or Cafe Paradiso, both in the Woodley Park area of DC and right at the Red Line metro stop there.

Thanks, yestravel, for your efforts on our behalf -- you are awesome!!!

yestravel Jul 22nd, 2015 04:01 PM

Thanks, kja -- those are good ideas, easy access from the metro and the area is not completely impossible for parking. I will see what they offer for a group. Hope you can make it as I would love to meet you. Have read many of your TR's in prep for our trips.
Janet - Fodors moderators did edit the title of the post in the Lounge to indicate the date. I had already added the date info to the thread.

FYI for people thinking of the where possibilities I am estimating between 20-25. TDudette has kept an email list of people who have come to previous DC GTG's. Some of those people don't show on this thread.

basingstoke2 Jul 22nd, 2015 06:42 PM

Looking forward to it - hope nothing interferes with me being there.

Thanks yestravel for taking this on.

kja Jul 22nd, 2015 09:22 PM

Thanks, yestravel -- if I can think of other easy-access restaurants, I'll let you know. And I would love to meet you, too!

internetwiz Jul 23rd, 2015 03:12 AM

I truly wish I was in town to meet all of you and hear your travel stories (thanks kja for all your input to the Japan forum).

JanetKMR Jul 23rd, 2015 04:27 AM

Yes, thank you yestravel for organizing this!

TDudette Jul 23rd, 2015 04:45 AM

santa, what/where was the bar/hotel at which the last DC GTG was held?

schlegal1 Jul 23rd, 2015 07:54 AM

I'm in--my husband may or may not come, I am unsure because of his work schedule. I plan to take the metro in. The timing is perfect because I want to go to the Gustave Caillebotte exhibit at the National Gallery which runs through 10/4.
In case anyone's also interested in that:

Thanks for organizing, yestravel--and yes, we also did Chile. We'll obviously have a lot to talk about. (Have you visited Panama?--that's what's on tap for us this December).

yestravel Jul 23rd, 2015 11:26 AM

No, haven't been to Panama. Looked into it for one trip, but didnt go. I do have birder friends who were there and very surprised at how much they liked it. This winter its Colombia and Ecuador for us.
