I just revisited my post, as usual I am entertained by Creator/God haters.
So all you “true science” anti creation /God types. Please do clue us ignorant ones in to a few things. 1) show me one, just one, gazelle with armadillo skin a no doubt hand evolutionary adaptation in lion country. Show me one, just one half gazelle and half armadillo. Show me a half house cat and half lion, Can’t do it Ya ya I know it takes billions and billions of years. 2) If we came from monkeys . And since we have humans and we also have monkeys then we should have those evolving half human half monkey creatures running around. Can’t find them. I could go on and on ridiculing the God haters but I know evolution and “”true science” for what it is - a religion. So have at it enjoy your religion and I hope that it works out for you. I just revisited my post, as usual I am entertained by Creator/God haters. ps The museum is worth a stop on any trip. |
I'm certainly no God hater, but thanks for telling me I am.
But while on the subject of Biblically-inspired museums, have you visitied the unicorn museum? They're mentioned in the Bible, so they must be scientifically true, too. Google it. |
sobolik, I think your post this evening on the other Kentucky Creation Museum thread (http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=35007105) was very nicely and informatively said. I read that one and it made me think the museum might be interesting to visit as a point of comparison. For one, the example you gave of the exhibit with the two workers unearthing fossils was enlightening.
But your post here is completely different, and a turn-off: the examples you give here to try and make your point are ludicrous and flat-footed; they only make me cringe instead of nod in understanding. (Gazelle/armadillo - huh?!) Furthermore, I don't see how believing in evolution and in God is mutually exclusive: it sure isn't in my church. Calling people who believe in evolution "God-haters" makes me want to avoid the place like crazy - and what kind of a learning experience can I get from that? |
wow, sobolik's latest post rates as the most ignorant AND offensive thing I've ever read on fodor's. and that's really going some. wow.
|
Yes, I'd have to agree that the second post is unacceptable. I see no conflict in believing in both God and evolution.
|
well, I have never traveled thru Kentucky, but if I do, I certainly won't be stopping at this "museum."
|
So, people who "believe" in science are following a religion? I hope that those who don't believe in science do not drive cars, fly, watch television, listen to the radio, take antibiotics when needed, wear glasses, or indeed ever need surgery.
|
This is one of the most entertaining threads I've ever read here. It's fine to have faith, but to try to rationalize some of the absurd thoughts here is just too funny. I particularly like Noah's Flood explaining fossils that range from a million years or so. That was one long flood.
And no I don't think it's impossible for people to believe in proven science and still have a full faith in their God. It's the overly literal interpretations that I find amusing. And the people who have such a fear that their faith could be threatened that they refuse to face really simple hard cold facts, which shouldn't shake their faith at all. |
sobolik, I am both a science major and a God-lover (in your terminology). I believe in both God and Evolution.
I'll refrain from sharing what I think of you and your post. |
If you are at all interested in understanding how both can be found in one person, you may want to check out Robert Jastrow's God and the Astronomers.

But we could show you a halfwit. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=halfwit Just thought Id throw in a little humor! |
Sobolik,
I'm British. I'm regularly told that we have a stereotypical prejudice against US creationists. Apparently we are wrong to believe those who share your beliefs are poorly educated and naive. I'm afraid that your grasp on grammar and literacy - let alone that on reality, coupled with your disingenuity - has suggested to me that my "prejudice" might be justified. |
sobolik, bless your pointy little head for making me laugh out loud!
<It also has a Bible, Christian message ministry element.> That "also" cracks me up! maj, the bit about the dog mayor is a classic, too. This has to be one of my favorite threads *ever*--it's hard to pick a favorite bit of it, so much is delicious. But I've got to get back to my chores:if I don't feed my half housecat/half lion on time, the lion half tries to eat the housecat half. And does the half human/ half monkey lift a finger to help? No sirree! "Evolved"? I don't think so! |
Excuse me, but I think this must be a joke. Although a committed Christian myself, I do not 'believe' in creationism. I have friends who do but have never heard this "half-gazelle, half-armadillo" argument from them.
I think sobolik is pulling our collective leg! |
Don't get me started on the gazelle with armadillo skin! Sure, the lion part of the half lion/half housecat leaves it alone, but then it has to go and do windsprints in the driveway. It's dented the mailbox, the garage door and my Prius. The half human/half monkey -- I like to call him Hunkey -- thinks it's funny, but bananas don't pay the insurance bills.

kswl - unfortunately, I think the OP is quite serious. The "half-gazelle, half-armadillo" thing is completely ridiculous. As a geologist (as is my DH and my brother), I am just speechless.
Of course, the half human/half monkey creatures are everyone....they're called "teenage boys!" |
kswl - unfortunately, I think the OP is quite serious. The "half-gazelle, half-armadillo" thing is completely ridiculous and there is no rational way to even begin to explain evolution to someone who is looking for that kind of evidence. As a geologist (as is my DH and my brother), I am just speechless.
Of course, the half human/half monkey creatures are everywhere....they're called "teenage boys!" |
Ah......so that is what happens when you are typing out a post....and in the middle of re-reading/editing - your computer goes "wonky!"
|
Before making any comment here I clicked on the poster's name and quickly found this is not some "newly registered troll" trying to start something. She has been posting quite a lot for some time and is obviously quite serious. Nearly all her other posts are very much travel related (as this one was clearly meant to be) not "political".
Many creationists are very sensitive about comments to discredit their "theories" and I doubt that sobolik is any exception. But she needs to realize that when she expresses such wild views on a public forum, that some people will obviously point out the basic flaws in her argument. I think the very reason creationists are afraid to hear the arguments is because underneath it all they know there is no "proof" of their beliefs and they are afraid of the "scientific proofs". If they listen to those proofs too much -- such simple things as like "these fossils are millions of years old, so they have to be from before any flood involving mankind", then their faith could be shaken. |
Libuse: Don't you realize that many (probably most) Americans also have "prejudice" against the wacky creation myths? If you didn't before, you should now after reading this thread of comments. Your injection of nationality into this discussion is misguided and offensive. If you want to get into nasty stereotypes, please realize your own nation (which I have greatly enjiyed visiting) can be subject to some nasty stereotyping as well, as any place on Earth can be.
