Unfortunately, have to wait until the end of January. Can't even count that high! Will be spending a couple of days outside of Honolulu, then two weeks in Maui and one week in Kauai.I can't believe how lucky we are that we'll be spending almost a month in Hawaii during the horrible new york winter.

May May 8th, 2002 08:19 AM

Only 10 more days. Can't wait. Hope the weather gets better.

Susan May 8th, 2002 08:32 AM

Yikes, 37 days now! Do you think I can lose 10 pounds by then?

xxx May 8th, 2002 09:29 AM

Susan depending on how small you are I would only suggest this if you need to loose ten pounds. Protein in the morning 2 hard boiled eggs or one 8 oz vanilla yogurt (I stay away from sugar substitutes) coffee plenty of water until lunch, then salad with chicken breast or some lean protein source and whatever else you put in your salads. Plenty of water again until Dinner chicken n broccoli with white sauce don't eat too much of the rice also salmon, tuna and broccoli (or some rich green) on other nights. Walk at least 2 miles 5 nights a week at a fast pace. This has worked for me. Well actually last time I was running but injuries are too easy to occur and I had to stop.

Trick I think might be keeping down carbs fat and adding rich greens, exercise and fish. The exercise will really help you on those hikes. If anything get out and start walking every night. This is what I am asking my travel partners, adults and children to do. You do feel the difference once you were there. Even if you are only chasing after some kid once you are there. You actually catch them. :) :)
she says as she just put away a huge olive oiled grilled veg sandwich with fresh mozzarella on ciabatta bread. Hey opera tonight I probably won't eat again. Now just to walk to Lincoln center instead of cabbing it!!!

50 more days Kauai.

Susan May 8th, 2002 09:38 AM

Hey, thanks xxx (Ms. Atkins ;-)) I've been doing three miles of fast walking every day and upping the protien, avoiding the carbs. I think at this point kick-boxing is in order! It's that last 10 pounds that stand between me and my old prom dress, may be pointless ... think I might have to cut out the beer for 37 days, ouch!

xxx May 8th, 2002 09:51 AM

Funny Susan thanks for taking it in a lighthearted way. I am needing to jumpstart my own plan again.

The strength building will help you outdoors in Hawaii.

Where are you going?

Diane May 8th, 2002 10:47 AM

Susan: Try the cabbage soup diet. I drop 12 pounds in a week.

Kim May 8th, 2002 11:45 AM

Think of the other passengers!

231.5 and counting.
Kal

Susan May 9th, 2002 03:54 PM

Kal, I've already broken my "no beer" diet ... oh well. I'm not cut out for that kind of discipline! I'm glad to hear you and in a jokester mood, I heard on another thread things have been down at Casa Kal ... hope all is well with you and the missus. Are you seriously considering a trip to Napa/Sonoma this weekend? Good wine is always good for what ail you! Wish I could run marathons like Mrs. Kal, then I could drink all the beer I like.

36 more days! (Some folks on this thread are already there -- lucky dogs!)

Yes May, 4 more days.
Yipppppppeeeeeee!

May May 14th, 2002 10:19 AM

Oh believe me, I eat, sleep, drink Hawaii at this point!!! Have you checked the weather for this weekend, Venice? Weather.com likes to tease me with those "showers" indications. Does Anyone have a more accurate forecast?

Sarah May 14th, 2002 10:27 AM

May I find that weather cast while you are actually in Hawaii are not all that accurate at least for the N.S just resign yourself to that fact that it will be beautiful rain or shine. Sounds weird but there are bennys to rain the bright sun can be wearing. Rain cools this down brings out the rainbows and just plain smells nice. Have to tell you the bedroom I had last year was surrounded by windows and it was wonderful to sleep there during the rain, you know the sound. On an Hawaiian Island the rains are all like the summer rains. The greens are greener during and after.

But I enjoy hiking in the rain, so quiet. Scotland would not be Scotland without this is the case for the N.S Kauai also. Somehow this gets left out of advertising though.

May May 14th, 2002 10:41 AM

That sounds nice while I'm sleeping but we're beach people and it would be nice to enjoy some warm weather and sun. But you're right, either way, it'll be beautiful.

venice May 14th, 2002 03:31 PM

I haven't checked out the weather May.
But since you mentioned it, I will.
Oooppppsss not good, "partly cloudy and scattered showers" in Oahu for the whole week that Iam there!I have to pack an umbrella then.(Hope the forecast is not true).

mj May 14th, 2002 07:45 PM

214 days until a blissful 30 days on the Big Island and northshore of Oahu with hubby and kiddies in tow.

Maybe sooner if we can find a screaming deal on Hawaiian and can use the $200 off coupons they gave us when our January flight to Kauai was delayed 8 hours because the PLANE BROKE DOWN. (Those were the exact words they used.)

The big Dec/Jan trip is thanks to Hawaiian frequent flyer miles. Hawaii addicts should consider a Hawaiian Airlines Mastercard. Hawaiian will allow you to link up to 3 ff accounts. This in combo with credit card miles gives us ~3 free tickets every other year. Pretty good deal.

Diane May 15th, 2002 04:45 AM

Leaving in fifteen minutes!!!! Will post a trip report when I get back. Thanks for everyone's help.

May May 15th, 2002 05:54 AM

3 more days Venice!!! =)

I see the only weather threat would be Saturday. The rest of the week should only be scattered showers around mountain areas. I hope it'll be dry and sunny the whole time I'm there. I will be in Maui for 3 nights as well. What about you?

jen May 15th, 2002 08:29 AM

8 more days! we'll be in maui for 4 days. unfortunately we had to cut off one day of our prepaid trip because of flight changes. we're disappointed about the loss of one day, but how bummed can you be when you're looking forward to 4 days of those warm tropical breezes and cold tropical drinks! we've got all our restaurant reservations, dive trips and tee times booked. I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!

venice May 15th, 2002 08:54 AM

Hi May,
Yes, 3 more days till paradise.I can't wait! I already started packing last night and went over my list of what to bring. I will only be in Oahu.(8days).Maybe next time I'll do an island hopping. Iam coming from SFO, what about you?

May May 15th, 2002 10:16 AM

Hi Venice, we've also made a to-do/to-bring list. Didn't start packing yet since I didn't have the time but I guess I will have to start tonight. I'm assuming you're a girl too from your post name and if I'm correct, you know how us girls are. We tend to overpack. I don't want to start packing too soon and end up putting too many things I won't need. =)

We're also staying for 8 days but on 2 islands. Oahu and Maui. I'm coming from NYC and we have a connecting flight in Missouri. I'm not looking forward to the 12 hour flight but I know it'll be worth it. Even my usual unenthusiastic is counting down the hours now. Who are you going with?

May May 15th, 2002 10:19 AM

By the way Venice, thought I'd brighten up your day a little. They're saying that it will only be AM showers and isloated showers around windward/mountain areas for Saturday now. For the rest of the week, it looks pretty promising. Only partly cloudy and 85 degrees. I think my 'stop-the-rain' dance I did last night worked! LoL.

Sarah May 15th, 2002 10:29 AM

Dying for Diane to log on and tell us where she is. Dam technology wish it would catch up with people in transit.

86 mo days

venice May 15th, 2002 03:04 PM

Iam going with my husband,May.
It's a sort of delayed honeymoon trip.
We got married last january but weren't able to take some time-off so we're taking it this month. I tried not to pack a lot so I will have room left for souvenirs.Btw, thanks for the "stop the rain" dance:-).Yeah, your news about the weather did brighten up my day. Thanks again. Back to work now....hmmmpp!!It's hard to concentrate at work now coz my mind is already at the beach drinking mai tais, watching the tide........Oh well I need to snap out of this before I get in trouble with my boss. Anyway, 3 more days........

May May 16th, 2002 06:22 AM

Venice, my usual unenthusiastic boyfriend just called me up at work to say that there's only 48 hours to go!!! I know you're as excited as I am. A belated congrats on your wedding and I'm sure you'll have a wonderful and romantic postponed honeymoon.

I don't know if it's just me or is this week just dragging on. I still haven't packed yet and I'm keeping my eye on the weather. I will keep you posted on how that goes. Meanwhile, I also have to get back to work and stop daydreaming.

Where are you saying in Oahu?
