clothes for women
we've been to Orlando a few times now and never really found a nice store to buy women's clothes for bigger sizes. Is there some specialty store with young, colorful and not classic things? A bit sporty is fine as well. Doesn't need to be expensive, rather something in between.
The Gap and Old Navy carry larger sizes now.
Lane Bryant? Cato? |
One of the nicest malls in the area is the Mall at Millenia. Why don't you google it to get a store listing? They probably have something you may like, plus they have a Macy's, Nordstrom or Neiman (I forget which) and a Bloomingdale's.
Chico's? Dillard's?
isn't this too much upscale or am i wrong?
i want something just a bit better than Walmart or sth and preferably a bit colorful where do you shop for bigger sizes? by post? |
Lane Bryant
Try Lane Bryant Catalog. They really have a good selection for the larger woman. Not what you would call "High Fashion" but good stylish comfortable clothes. Jeans, colorful tops, caftans, sweaters, jackets, you name it! If it's not in the latest catalog, there will be another one along in a couple of weeks
Chico's?! You must be kidding - their sizes don't even fit a 16, never mind "bigger" sizes!
Ahhhh, okay maybe that was a little harsh. Can you tell I'd like to shop there and can't? LOL!
There are two different websites for Lane Bryant. There a Lane Bryant, and then a Lane Bryant Catalog.
The Catalog has more bland, boring and some down right ugly clothes. But the Lane Bryant online store has more colorful, youthful and fun peices. You can find some great bargins on there is you just take the time to dig around. If you go into a Lane Bryant store there is always a sale rack in the back of the store with some great deals. I also like Old Navy but not all Old Navy stores carry plus sizes but you can find a good size selection at the Old Navy online store. |
Avenue - 2 stores in Orlando
Avenue COLONIAL MARKET PLACE 2746 EAST COLONIAL DRIVE ORLANDO,FL 32803 US 407-898-1405 Avenue TERRACE @ FLORIDA MALL 730 SAND LAKE ROAD ORLANDO,FL 32809 US 407-816-5524 |
As mentioned if you really mean "plus" Chicos does not go that big. MAYbe a regular size 14-16 is their largest, called size '3'.
Chico's now has sz 4, but not in all styles, not in all stores. Nicer than Walmart, not as upscale as Bloomies? How about Target?
Seriously, try the Avenue stores. They have NICE clothes that wear well and are quite stylish. I shop there very frequently! Their prices are reasonable, especially if you get on their mailing list and download coupons!
Target is OK for women's sizes, but not the best. They have a very limited selection, and they tend to have just casual wear and nothing else. |
I may be wading into an awful kettle of fish here, but I believe the OP is visiting from Europe--Antwerp, isn't that right? And perhaps a European idea of a bigger size isn't as super sized as the American idea of a bigger size? A Chico's size 4 may be very big to a European, is all I'm saying.
True, we could be more helpful if we knew where this person was visiting in the U.S. and what size we are talking about
:-) |
I've had good luck shopping the sales at Kohl's. There's one in Orlando. They frequently have 30 or 40% off sales. Much better quality and selection than Target. I would also look for a TJ Max or Marshall's which carries discounted clothes. Some aren't great quality but sometimes you find top quality/famous labels at a good discount.
hey, thanx for all the replies
yes, we visit from Europe and will be staying on I'l Drive. Haven't been to the Millenium Mall because i read it's more upscale shopping, not exactly my style. We were planning on going to Festival Bay for the first time, any suggestions? And we usually visit Florida Mall as well but tend to skip the outlet stores. I usually shop at Ulla Popken, a german brand with quite a nice selection of colorful clothes. www.ullapopken.com. Any chance of finding that near I-Drive? |
I also shop Ulla Popken, and I would say if you find their prices acceptable, you will be able to find things in the same range at a Macy's or Dillards, maybe Bloomingdale's. Nordstrom and especially Neiman Marcus are a lot more expensive, except for sales. JC Penney is another department store to look at, with prices somewhat less than Dillards, and here in the midwest they usually have fun colorful summer things. I have to say I find Ulla Popken to be *much* nicer than anything at Walmart.
CJ Banks has really nice colorful things and similar prices, but apparently they have no store in Orlando. TJ Maxx is a great place to shop, but be prepared to spend a lot of time hunting through the racks. |
Macy's or Lane Bryant (imo) seem the closest to what you are seeking.
I just came across this place online www.extrafreshproduce.com
Very colorful and young. According to the store locator they have a couple of stores in Orlando. I have never shopped there but the clothes look nice; may be worth a stop. |
Call me a What Not To Wear snob, but the clothing at both the Fresh Produce and Ulla Popkin is entirely too casual for work, and their styles are the type that make you look fatter rather than stylish. To each her own...
Listen to Christie - and to Avenue.
...and go to Avenue
I have quite a few things from Fresh Produce (I stock up at the store in Mount Dora every year) and while they are too casual for work, no way do they make me look fatter. I would NOT be buying them if they did! I live in Europe and always get compliments on my Fresh Produce clothes.
My mother (in Leesburg) just said that one of the big malls in Orlando is undergoing major renovations...is it Mall of Millenia? If you get up to The Villages, you'll find some nice shops that carry mid-priced clothes up to say, size 18 (US). Esp. in the Spanish Springs Town Square. More and more shops are opening over in the Lake Sumter shopping area too. Both are pretty squares with cafes and restaurants as well as shops. And Spanish Springs has live music (virtually) every night. |
Somehow or other everybody has forgotten the best whether on line or in a shop-...JC Pennys..www3.jcpenney.com/jcp/Department.aspx?DeptID=597&CatID=597&CatTy p=DEP&Dep=women%27s&cmResetCat=true
Old Navy quality turns me off..and I just hate walking into a "fat womens" store.. like Lane Brant and Romans.. Even though there is a Pennys at the closest mall I've gotten some beautiful things online.. You might try Target, but Walmart--tacky. Bought two beautiful bathing suits at an "outlet"here in MA..great quality.. A few of the places like Ann Taylor have a line of larger sizes.. Now, here is something nobody has mentioned.. we go to craft shows...here in MA.. and there are booths and I do have one particular woman who hand paints beautiful tops and jackets and the prices are very reasonable.. I don't want to look like everybody else who has walked out of the large size stores.. Ohyes.. I'm a senior..lol |
On line, qvc.com has a large variety (from casual to dressy) of clothes in all sizes from XS to 3X. I'm a M myself, though think it's great they cover all sizes for all of their lines.
extrafreshproduce.com is a web site where you can get Fresh Produce clothes in plus sizes. Stick to your size, do not order up. Also, in Orlando there is a Fresh Produce only store in the shopping/restaurant area in front of Universal Studios. Free parking after 6 PM and a great selection of all sizes of Fresh Produce clothes.
