Chinese restaurants: San Francisco
I'm looking for recommendations for good chinese/asian restuarants in San Francisco. Any thoughts?

We dined at Empress of China on Grant Street, close to the Pyramid.
If you book a window table you will have a great view over the city in the direction of Fisherman's Wharf. |
If you ask Chowhound, you'll get lots of answers:

Have to agree that the Empress has one of the best views in Chinatown - and the food is good as well. It's a little formal in that the servers will dish up parts of your meal table-side (i.e. serving up soup from a tureen, etc.).

Are you looking for authentic or American-style?? Do you have a budget??

Yank Sing at the Rincon Center has really good Dim Sum, but is very expensive. They make one of the best xiao long baos (steamed Shanghainese dumplings).
R&G Lounge on Kearny and Commercial has good seafood and cantonese style dinners. It's especially good for banquets, but still can be expensive. I think Chowhound has some good recommendations as Michael said. |
Hunan, Kearny St. location for lunch.
or Brandy Ho's, Columbus Ave. SPICY! |
best dim sum in SF is uptown, at Ton Kiang on Geary. The food in Chinatown is not very good for the most part.

Empress of China is wonderful! It is formal but the place was filled with casually dressed tourists, as well as better dressed locals. The view is beautiful, service and food excellent.

I think the Chronicle's picks (there are 4 Chinese in their top 100) are great:
