We had a hard time finding affordable breakfasts, so we just went to the grocery store and stocked up on croissants, pineapple juice, fresh fruit etc. and stored it all in the frig in our room and had that for breakfast each day. It was nice to just enjoy it out on our balcony. Not sure if this would satisfy you if you're used to something heartier.

Gas $4-5 a gallon? News to me--Chevron in Honolulu is posting $3.13 to $3.23.

As posters have said, you'll have no problem finding reasonable breakfasts in Waikiki and the tourist communities on Maui, a harder time in resort communities.

Gas is $3.88 at the Chevron in Maui so I'm only 12 cents off..to $4 bucks.

To get affordable when you're at the Grand Wailea, you'll probably want to drive 5 min and go to Kihei.

The Kihei Cafe has great breakfast. It's really small with very limited seating indoors, so go on a sunny dry morning and sit outside. I don't think you'll be disappointed with your meal.

I had a good breakfast a couple of years ago at Stella Blues. It's about 10 min from Wailea in Kihei. http://restauranteur.com/stellablues/

Here's a link for Spices at the Maui Coast Hotel in Kihei. I've never eaten there, but a friend of mine did and said that it was good.

We have visited Oahu a number of times, since our son lives there, and always make a point of going to Moose McGillicuddy's in Waikiki for breakfast. They have a great breakfast for a reasonable price, as some of the other posters have said. They are on a side street right off the main drag.

Moose McG is the king of the breakfast bargains. I also like the Sunrise Cafe in Lahaina, though it's more moderate than cheap.

What about the big Island. Any inexpensive breakfasts near, Hapuna beach, Fairmont orchid or Hilton?

You won't find cheap deals in the Waikoloa, Hapuna or Mauna Lani areas. Those are "destination resorts" and far from the crowds so expect to pay. You'd have to drive into Kailua-Kona or up north to Waimea for cheap eats.
