Are you heading back to Albuquerque when you're finished visiting Chaco, or are you going somewhere else?

We came from Taos and visited Chaco canyon on our way to Durango Colorado. The next day we visited Mesa Verde.Paul

You might have problems getting to Chaco Canyon if it has been raining or snowing. I was there a few years ago, and the only access was via dirt roads that turned muddy during summer thunderstorms. Without a 4-wheel drive you might not want to take the chance.

Michael is right - definitely check the weather and road conditions before going.

I'm not sure how far Cameron, Ariz., is from that area, but the Cameron Trading Post is a delight. Google it!

Probably Farmington if you are headed north after your Chaco visit or Grants if you are headed back to ABQ. We camped at Chaco when we were there in Sept. but it will be too cold for that at the end of Dec. unless you're in an RV.
I can't suggest a specific place in Farmington of Grants. We stayed here: http://www.canondelrio.com/ after we left Chaco but that might be too far after a long day at Chaco. Have fun there...Chaco is a verty special place. Here's some pictures I took...they start on this page and go for several more: http://www.pbase.com/peterb/co_and_nm_05&page=21 |
