Hi bonniebroad, I am going to!! First of all due to some food allergies there are a lot of "sweets" I cannot eat. Your banana bread receipe I can, which is why I copied it.

Also, I am the worse cake and pie baker you have every met. Seriously, when my daughter was in Parochial School and they had the weekly hotdog lunch/bake sale as a fund raiser the nuns requested that I stop baking cakes and start serving the hot dogs and get involved with the dishwashing, LOL. A true story. My "idea" worked, hehe!

But I have always been able to bake fantastic breads of all kinds, banana breads, regular bread etc. It is strange. And your banana bread receipe I know is heavenly. Especially with the pineapple in it. I will have to post a German style apple cake (baked in a bundt pan) receipe. It is more like a breakfast cake..not a desert cake. It is yummy. Best wishes.

Hi seetheworld, I will. I will pull it out tomorrow and post it. It is great for breakfast, late afternoon with coffee, tea, wine etc. I always baked it for Christmas morning, coffee and munch on that along with some other breads while presents were being opened.

BTW, I swear this is the truth, NOONE could have been happier washing big pots etc after the weekly hotdog sale then me. I would take of my suitjacket, roll up the sleeves of my blouse and away I would wash, LOL. I would have scrubbed the floors on my hands and knees to avoid having to bake and frost a cake every Wednesday night!! And just think, Mother Superior considered me a "good sport" LOL. If she only had known.

I just remembered that my husband did get stopped at the screening gate with food recently. The security guard told my husband that he wasn't allowed on the airplane with the boxes he was carrying and that he'd have to leave the boxes with security. He was bringing home two dozen Krispy Kreme donuts for me and the kids.

offlady, I'm hoping you are kidding us. Food most certainly is allowed on board a plane and these days with no food being served a passenger has every right to take a couple dozen doughnuts on board with him. I strongly suspect your husband told you this as he "forget" to get the promissed Krispy Kremes, or otherwise the security people felt a hunger pain and figured out how to satisfy it.

Just make sure you don't try and take fruitcake. Apparently it looks like plastic explosive to an xray machine.

Although why anyone would take fruitcake anywhere is beyond me. Yeech

Bonnie - thanks for the input - and the recipe! I don't think that is the same reason my g'mother took hers, but who knows?

Dear kireland-
You better think twice about bringing that cake. I hear that X-Ray machines do something curious to home baked cakes that makes them radioactive and will light up anyone that subsequently eats them. I hear that those people mysteriously glow in the dark for the rest of their lives, which ain't too long after eating them there cakes.

Had an acquaintance take small cakes with her to CA for tasting with her son and future daughter-in-law prior to their wedding. Everything worked out fine for her.

Patrick, the security guard did tell my husband that he wasn't allowed on the plane with the Krispy Kremes--but he was just teasing my husband. It didn't end there--the pilot, flight attendents, and people sitting near him on the plane were exceptionally friendly with him hoping to get their hands inside the boxes. All for a donut. Must be a people magnet.

re: the banana bread. During mango season we substitute mangoes for the pineapple and call it "Bango Bread."

I'm back from Tampa and had no trouble taking the cake on board. I flew via D.C. and they do a rigorous search so the cake was inspected a few times but so far no radioctive after-effects!

BTW for anyone thinking of doing this here is how I did it - it was a birthday layer cake, I wrapped each layer in parchment paper and packed them tightly into a tupperware container, though a box would work well too - just make sure that you fill any empty space with crumpled up paper so the cakes don't slide around. I took a tub of ready made icing with me and quickly iced it. The only hitch was trying to get the candles to stay lit when delivering it in the slightest of ocean breezes on the moonlit beach. Needless to say he was surprised and touched - it was nice to have a home based tradition with us on holiday.

bonniebroad, I finally got to try your banana bread recipe. I purposely went out and bought bananas and let them get overripe just for the occasion. It was a big hit with everyone. Thanks for sharing.

AS for the cake, you may want to bake in a loaf pan-that may make it easier to carry than layers. It would still look good when you ice it. Security will not be a problem.

I just read this thread for the first time and expected the first reply to be something about the "I smell cake" riot occurring by your food-deprived fellow travellers! Glad it went well and I'm drooling over the recipe!
