Welcome to Fodors. The thread you topped is a year old . . . but in any case this part is really off base: " "The lady at the bar was extremely rude about it too. I told her it was for my husband and she said “husband has to be here, I have to check his ID”. I was dumbfounded at her rudeness as I’m clearly traveling alone. I’m disappointed but it is what it is."

They absolutely must check IDs - they could lose their liquor license if they don't.

I know this but it’s not off base at all. As I already mentioned in the post I was traveling alone and my husband was in a different state. In the context of my situation that I explained to her it made zero sense. And yes I see it is a year old but I wanted to know if she managed to get a different outcome than I did. Thanks for your reply though. Very helpful.

Here's how it might actuall make sense. Having owned a bar myself, I know that my own liquor license did not allow me to sell unopend bottles. Period. A bar license is not the same as a retail license, and it varies from state to state. None of us know exactly what license they have, but I trust they themselves do know.

Makes total sense to me - she wanted an unopened bottle -- an off-license sale -- which is almost 100% surely not allowed. She then said it was for her husband (still would have been off-license) so they said they'd need to see to see husband's ID probably as a diversionary tactic thinking she'd give up. But she would rather feel slighted/abused. They were so rude ;)
