Where do you get the Bobbi Brown eye liner?
|
I have gone through so many mascaras, they always run! I just bought some clear mascara from Sephora that really thickens the lashes, without worrying about streaks!
|
I got mine at Nordstrom's (Bobbi Brown eyeliner.)
If you don't have one, most of the larger dept. stores carry it.
Or, I guess you could get it at nordstroms.com.
|
Hi Tansy,
I have found Lancome Aquacils waterproof mascara to be the best, never smudges!
Clinique has a gel blush called Black honey-very natural, doesn't wipe off. Bobbi Brown make-ups can be found in most 'good'department stores, Saks, Bloomingdales, Neimans, Nordstroms. Clinique has a line of cosmetics for the sun, SPF lip gloss etc. Clinique 'City Base' is 15 SPF..but will wash off or wipe off in the water.

Have fun!
|
I loved Aquacils. I have been told that they discontinued this product and am so bummed. Every time I find a great product - they do this. Lancome now has only 1 waterproof mascara a new one just like the definicils which I hate. Does not do much of anything for me. Who makes these decisions? People who don't wear the product obviously.
|
Nightowl,
I agree! Especially Lancome! They are constantly changing; I guess to have us buy new things. My favorite eye cream of all time was discontinued a few years ago. First only in the US, so I had my husband buy it up in bunches everytime he made a business trip to Europe. But then it was discontinued there, as well. Ah well... Those should be our biggest problems...
I do not wear makeup on vacation, but I do use sunscreen, and lots of it.

This is the best stuff I have ever used it makes you look good AND protects from the sun and is water and sweat resistant without clogging pores:

Clarins Creme Compacte Solaire Teintee.

It gives you skin a bronze effect, covers like a light foundation and does not sweat off. I love this product, its the size of a compact, with a mirrror and spounge. I am not a Dr., but I do not recommend getting too much sun espically on your face. I have been protecting my skin forever thats why at 42 I look 30! A tan fades but collegen is destroyed by sun damage, you cannot replace that! I highly recommend getting your body "sprayed" at a salon with self tanner. It looks natural, it lasts and is safe for your skin.
|
Sandyfeet - I agree! I was always ashamed of my freckles as a teenager so I used sunscreen on my face even as I tried to ROAST the rest of me. I still use sunscreen every morning of the year. Now I'm 38 and I get carded at bars and my husband HATES it when people think he's my Dad. I'm a big beleiver in sunscreen.

Tansy - I agree with the self-tan in place of base advice. As to lipstick, Urban Decay makes a lipstain, you might like the Brick REd color Bitten. Stila makes a lip rouge that stays on even longer (only 4 colors-looks like a magic marker). Both of these products will stay on while you shower! Smashbox makes a two in one thing that has a stain in one end and a clear gloss in the other. STays on almost as well and the gloss is fabulous. (but it's expensive and you don't get much) All this stuff is available through Sephora on-line if you don't live in a big city. For eye-makeup I recommend cool sun-glasses.

Suzanne and SueH, you are not alone. I am married, but my husband has always said he never would have married someone who's high maintenance. Once my hair's dried, I can be dressed and out of the house in 3 minutes.

I don't even wear makeup to work. Why would I wear it on vacation?
|
I honestly don't think that wearing makeup = high maintenance. I have fairly short hair -- in the morning, I put some pomade in, blow dry for under 3 minutes, and "tousle." Weekday (work) makeup routine is:
Moisturizer
Light foundation to even out skin
Curl lashes
Light coat of eyeshadow
Brush eyebrows
Mascara
Lip gloss

It takes me less than 15 minutes to put in contacts, dry hair, and put on makeup. I don't think that's high maintenance!

I wear more "fun" makeup when I go out at night, and often on vacation.

I know plenty of women who don't wear much makeup, but are very high maintenance -- long hair that they blow-dry for 25 minutes, taking 30 minutes to decide what to wear, the pantyhose, the heels, the jewelry.
|
Tansy, it's just those women who refuse to EVER leave the house or answer the door without make-up on that I consider high maintenance. (Cases in point: my mother once missed a flight because she wouldn't get out of the car at the airport until she had her make-up on. A friend once missed an important Fedex delivery that had to be signed for because she wouldn't let the Fedex guy see her make-up less).

But guess I'd also have to consider those who wear make-up to the beach or in the pool as high-maintenance. Also, can anyone explain to me those women who wear make-up to the gym, or while out running? It's just so bad for your skin.

I'm one of those people who can do the following in less than 30 minutes: shower, dry my hair (fairly long), put in contacts and such, eat, and brush my teeth. The last time I bought make-up was in 1997.
|
I wear something over my face(tinted moisturizer with an SPF) if not just to block the pores from getting dirt in them. I always wear red lipstick and wear it to the beach and to work out.
|
Good point, Ann41. I would NEVER miss a flight because I needed to put makeup on!

I agree with you about makeup at the gym. Very very bad for the skin. I know, I know, I'll be sweating at the beach, too, but that's not my INTENT. I'll be lounging under a palapa with a straw hat on, not running 10 miles an hour on a treadmill. And I don't take a lot of pictures while at the gym. :)
|
I actually don't consider it high maintenance for me. I have been laid off for 2 years and don't put on makeup everyday. But, when I do go out or to the beach I wear makeup and it's because I feel good when I do. It enhances my looks and I do have good skin. I also am 42 and look a lot younger. I don't "bake" in the sun, I just like to enjoy some time at the pool or beach on vacation. I do use sunscreen!!! I also agree that self tanning is the way to go - as far as the spray on I haven't done it yet but it sounds like Fantasy Tan is the way to go! Hopefully, they won't discover that it causes cancer or something else ... LOL. When I do get ready, I do the makeup and blow out my hair and I can get everything done in 45 minutes from shower to makeup to hair to getting dressed.
|
I'm in the camp of thinking that makeup, or foundation anyway, is out of place at the beach, pool and yes Ann41, THE GYM, and running! Yuck. They look so silly. I'll wear water proof mascara and brownie-shades of lipstick, but no more--and when the lipstick wears off, it's just plain gone...no fixin' it! Something appears a little "off" when someone is all nicely put together at the beach/pool. That's one place where natural, healthy looks seem to go hand in hand and look great.
|
Tansy,

I know in my original post I chuckled and told you to just get a good tan and pack some chapstick. But then I started reading the thread and thought, "pictures! yikes!". The photo part never occured to me!

So yesterday I stopped by the store and picked up some of the Maybelline Great Lash waterproof mascara that was recommended here. I've worn it today, laid in the sun, hosed myself down, etc. and so far it's run and smudge proof. If the pool were open, I'd try it with a swim... but it's not warm enough here yet! lol

So whoever recommended it, thanks. I'm leaving for Scotland in 6 weeks and there's always rain in the forecast. Since I will have pictures galore, this mascara is definitely going with me!

~ Sheryl

~ Sheryl

Hey OO, I was doing step aerobics yesterday at the gym and the lady next to me not only had full battle makeup on and jewelry a swishing she smelled like she fell in a vat of Chanel #5.
|
have you thought about this scenerio? I wear make-up to work most every day. I often work out mid morning or at lunch at Curves. I don't go to the trouble of wiping off my make-up before I go, so maybe I am one of those women you see with make-up on. I also don't take my earrings off, but I do remove my watch and ring.
|
Come to think of it, I hit the gym after work and also wear a full face of makeup.
|
This gal is a stay at home mom like the rest of us. She always looks like she is going out for the evening when she comes into step class at 9 am. The perfume is what really gets me, it is enough to knock you over. I don't know if she is trying to cover her bo or what.

Hey Go-Buy some of those baby wipes. They are gentle enough to use on your face. Quick way to remove makeup before you hit the gym.
