Best Place in NYC to get State Muffin
OK, I've just learnt that other states have state flowers, state mottos, etc., but New York also has a "state muffin".
Where's the best place in New York City to get an authentic state muffin? |
ok I give up. What is the state muffin of New York.
|
Evidently, it is the apple muffin... ref google search.
|
This would make a great cocktail party guessing game.
|
<i>What is the state muffin of Minnesota?
How about Massachusetts? (I bet you can't guess without googling) Official donut of MA? </i>I'd go to Magnolia Bakery. |

Sounds like choosing a state muffin was a school project rather than an effort by pureyors of muffins. I've never seen a muffin in NYC labeled as a state muffin. |
LOL, ellenem :-)
Here's a pic of one from Magnolia - http://myfiveblocks.wordpress.com/20...gnolia-bakery/ Or as close as it gets to an apple muffin |
ttt
No one in the Big Apple eats apple muffins, the state muffin? Hard to believe. I thought there would be at least a dozen recommendations. |
With all due respect I believe you can get an apple muffin in just about any muffin place in NYC or throughout the state. At last count that was 2,467 venues.
|
I doubt that 1 in 10 people in NYC know that there is a state muffin, much less what it is.
|
Maybe it's supposed to be a stud muffin.
|
330east: Have you ever had one?
I can't remember ever having one. A blueberry muffin - yes A plain muffin - yes A nutty muffin - yes A chocolate muffin - yes Do New Yorkers have muffin contests during state fairs? Does the lady in the polka-dotted dress always win? What kinds of apples do they use? How did the apply muffin originate? Are there cookbooks written featuring only apple muffins? If there are 2,567 "venues" all baking apple muffins - how come the New York Times hasn't written features articles on the apple muffin? What's wrong with journalists today? |
I have an apple bran muffin at my local coffee shop at least once a week. Journalists have more interesting things to eat and write about.
|
NY State muffin = a bagel.
|
SueNYC: au contraire. I've found at least one recipe on the NY Times for apple muffin:

Eat too many muffins and you get a muffin top!
When are you going to NYC, easytraveler? |
The NY State Muffin attended Spence, then Sarah Lawrence, and was married at St. Bart's.
____________ I doubt that 1 in 10 people in NYC know that there is a state muffin, much less what it is. But I will bet 10 out of 10 NY'ers could give a flying about the NY State Muffin except the idiots in Albany who voted for it and the apple lobby that campaigned for it. I sure as hey hope there is no muffin lobby. |
Try Zabar's - they have a host of different types of muffins - and I know apple cinnamon is one of them. And they all seem really good - but I'm sure about a zillion calories.
And no - I never knew there was a state muffin. |
Why go to the Big Apple when you can bake them for yourself using The Official New York State Apple Muffin Recipe?
http://www.nyapplecountry.com/nysapplemuffin.htm A bunch of elementary schoolers in North Syracuse came up with it, so maybe it's an Upstate Thing and not to be found in NYC. http://www.nytimes.com/1987/05/29/ny...vor-apple.html http://www.nytimes.com/1987/08/11/ny...ffin%22&st=cse |
I thought that I would sample a local product when in NY, somewhat like having lobster on Cape Cod, even though we have a heck of a great place locally to get a lobster roll.
Besides which, I'm one of the world's worst bakers. nytraveler: thanks for the suggestion. I'll give Zabar's a try. Just one muffin. One muffin. That's all I'm asking for... |
