Another vote for Black Pearl, Newport, RI!
Capt Parker's in So.Yarmouth, MA is really as good as everyone says! It is very, very thick though...some people like their chowda a little thinner.
No Name Restaraunt, Boston
well here ya go, i love the creamy(NE style) chowder at the dolphin in hanalei, kauai. It has ruined many a dinner appetite for me. Where i come from the spicy red style was more the norm. I think the best of that was made yearly by an old sailor who had a boat shop by the harbor. It was made in a very large black kettle over and open flame and the whole neighborhood would come out for a bowl ..arrr matey.

One vote for the Black Pearl, Newport - great ambiance. Another vote for Capt. Parkers, Yarmouth - not much atmosphere though, worth a stop if seeking chowda.

I'm a very nervous dyslexic....anybody know where in can get some calm chowder?
Steamer's of Pismo--Pismo Beach, CA
LOL, we actually have NE (white) Clam Chowder is CA. Pismo Beach is great (Steamers, Splash, Brads) and nearby Morro Bay (I forgot the name of the takeout window that has good chowder). Barbara's Fish Trap was good too as another poster mentioned. Also, we have a small chain in the Bay Area called the Fish Market that has good Chowda. But I have never been to Boston or NE, so maybe I still have a lot too learn, LOL.

sea wahine, Another go at the hell-hole? Niiiiiiice! -Bill |
Well, I'd have to say, my house. LOL My dad and grandmother were born and raised in Portland Maine. I make chowder like my grandma did.
Freestone's in New Bedford MA!!!!
sea wahine,
FW...WHO ME??? Everyone knows FW is a total tourist trap and shouldn't go there! :-" I'd post my countdown but the trip to Italy is screwing up our Dec/ Jan #ellhole plans! [( crefloors...I'll be right over! |
I can't stand those chowders with rubbery clams and really thick starchy base...so my favorite is Bayside Betsy's in Provincetown (Cape Cod) on the bay. They make it fresh every day, the clams taste like they were just dug (probably were!) and there are lots of them. The potatoes (just enough to satisfy) are perfectly tender and the base is seasoned to perfection. Nothing fancy with this chowder...it's clams, clams, clams!
Hey tpatricco! I met my husband at Country Kettle 31 years ago! ;;) He was the Manager and I was a waitress at the Ice Cream Parlor. Thanks for the memories.
iamq..actually, just near the hell-hole..counting down to molokai/maui adventure. probably no popos.
Kal, reaaally, NO, I think Fisherman's Wharf is a "must do" for all the visitors. As a matter of fact, spending lots of time there is a great idea! i crack myself up. |
I can't believe nobody has said Legal Seafood - they claim to have the best! It is pretty, good, too.

RE:
"""Author: Gene Date: 03/30/2006, 09:41 pm Captain Parker's in South Yarmouth on Cape Cod won so many WCOD Cape Cod Chowder Festivals WCOD had to put them in a Hall of Fame and bar them from competition. So Captain Parker's went on to win the Boston Chowder Festival and then the Newport International Chowder Festival which I guess makes them World Champions!""" Dude, the recipe at PikePlaceChowder in Seattle has been to the Newport Chowder Festival 3 times... and is 3-for-3 pending this year's return. What more needs to be said? |
