For the official website of any U.S. National Park, Monument, Historic Site, etc: www.nps.gov

The sites include "plan your visit", accurate directions, links to any in-park official concessionaires, lists/links of nearby attractions, etc.

www.recreation.gov
www.byways.org
www.us-national-parks.net
www.randmcnally.com
www.fs.fed.us

Just about anything in the USA.

For Disneyworld:
http://haysllc.com/DisneyLinks/index.../slide0001.htm - a list of great links for all things WDW
www.allearsnet.com
www.wdwinfo.com
www.disboards.com
www.mousesavers.com
Current WDW entertainment schedules: http://pages.prodigy.net/stevesoares/

www.tourguidemike.com - a subscription service that's about the same $ as a guide book. Tons of info.

I also love www.nps.gov for the National parks - what a value!

For travel in Turkey: www.turkeytravelplanner.com

www.kayak.com a good fare search engine.

eBay and half.com for used travel videos - sometimes for travel guides but eBay sellers can really jack up the shipping cost. I appreciate amazon.com's used books w/ controlled shipping costs.

www.sierratradingpost.com has some great deals on travel wear. quick dry, cool max, walking shoes etc.

Id like to add this useful link to the list:

onetime.com

Their own site can explain it better than I can:

"OneTime's innovative technology searches multiple travel sites at once. Just enter dates and destinations, and within seconds you'll be comparing deals from the leading travel sites of your choice. Select your favorite deal and book directly through the deal provider"

Have a pleasant evening!

:)

I agree one of the best sites for finding airfare is www.matrix.itasoftware.com
It was the only site where I could obtain information about flights from Bangkok to Cambodia and a multi segment flight to Easter Island.
Google is OK but not if you want a foreign website. I have had the name of the hotel and it won't appear in the first 10 pages of a google search because it is not a us based site (ie the last letters are .cl or .nz etc. instead of .com)

Funny, we had the opposite -- Mapquest gave great directions and Yahoo!Maps led my friends on a goose chase. I guess none of those are perfect.
