Be aware that mapquest is not faultless by any means.
Using correct addresses it gives directions to another lake over 100 miles from my MI address. We have found that it also gives driving directions with roads that are closed and have been closed for over a year. For driving directions we use- www.randmcnally.com |
Just wanted to update this list with a new discovery:
www.FareAlert.net This is an excellent website that lets you know about those little pricing glitches that sometimes happen with airfare and hotels as well as severly discounted travel info. Disney just sold rooms at the Caribbean Beach Resort and the Coronado Springs Resort for $11 per night to Florida residents. |
Need to add Earth.Google.com since it was omitted here...
JJ5 - RE: MapQuest, I agree. I have been instructed to turn the opposite direction (in error) by MapQuest. I often dbl-check with Yahoo!Maps and the others. |
www.lonelyplanet.com has an incredibly active message board called The Thorn Tree, similar to Fodor's but budget travelers generally.
www.budgettravelonline.com is Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel magazine recently available on the net. www.tripadvisor.com for hotel research |
www.biddingfortravel.com for advice and info on bidding on www.Priceline.com
www.chowhound.com for great foodie advice. www.travelzoo.com for good advice on travel deals. www.airtohawaii.com for low airfare prices to Hawaii. |
I like www.worldairportguide.com
It gives the addresses, codes, facilities, nearby hotels, public transportation etc on airports of the world. |
For questions on where should you live, I liked the findyourspot.com website someone had posted on here a while back.
|
And then there's the Google search to augment the non-working Fodor's search. Thanks to Mrs. jlm_mi:
go to www.google.com and click "advanced search", you can search for anything you want, then restrict the domain to fodors.com. |
travelinwifey,
Thanks for the heads-up about minimus.biz! Perfect small-size stuff for our emergency supply kit. |
One of my all time favorites and the one I used the most when the internet was new and the databases did not link as well. It's better than ever:
www.ceoexpress.com Notice the TRAVEL section! |
Hi,
A few that I didn't see mentioned are www.orbitz.com www.travelocity.com www.expedia.com www.hoteldiscounts.com www.hotels.com Maybe others did mention these, and I just missed it. There are a lot of posts here. |
Also for Disney planning, mouseplanet.com
|
http://maps.a9.com/
For overhead maps of some major cities, with profile photographs of some major streets. |
To save time, tripadvisor will let you compare several travel sites side-by-side on hotel rooms. Saves a lot of time not having to go to expedia, orbitz and others separately.
|
www.fundalert.com if you still invest via mutual funds v. ETFs.
M |
craigslist.org
|
|
www.freetrip.com
for routing, miles, time, and hotels |
weatherundergroun.com for a great education on tropical weather. Someone on this board told about it last year when Florida started getting hit and I have learned so much about meteorology since then. Their metoroligist's blogs seem to be ahead of everyone else.
