BEST ITALIAN REST IN NEW YORK??
Are they any in Midtown Manhattan??
Nope.
Yep. Amazing though it may seem, there just aren't any Italian restaraunts in Midtown.
Yes, there are many great Italian restaurants in midtown. One of my favorites, very popular with natives, is BELLINI on East 52nd Street between 2nd & 3rd Aves (very close to 3rd). Excellent food & service. And Enzo is one of the best bartenders in Manhattan. Enjoy.
Ted's a liar. By the way Ted, the "natives" are restless.
Il Mulino (in the village). It's been voted one of the best Italian restaurants in America. Enjoy!

dcp: Since when is the Village in midtown?
One of my favorites is Fresco by Scotto at 52nd b/t Madison & Park. Wonderful food, warm atmosphere, Mrs. Scotto will greet you at the door and make you feel right at home.

I also like Il Menestrello at 52nd b/t Madison & Fifth. Very "old world" style Italian.
Trattoria dell'Arte on 7th Avenue between 57th and 58th Street.
I'd recommend:
Baldoria
249 W. 49th St. (bet. B'way & 8th Ave.) New York, NY, 10019-7404 (212) 582-0460

Owned by same family as Rao's!
My vote is for Babbo, in the Village. Just make sure to call exactly 28 days prior for a reservation.
Best Italian is in Brooklyn in Bed Stuy.
