Best buffets in Vegas?
On a variation of a previous posting, what are the best dinner Buffets in Vegas, in your opinion? Also what's the best place to have a good inexpensive breakfast?
We frequent Las Vegas and love the buffet at the Golden Nugget downtown. We have had others (Caesars, Mirage, etc) but they don't match up.
The Rio-seafood buffet wins Best Buffet every year..
My favorite is at the Mirage.
My favorite is Sahara's - never seen this variety anywhere else, and the price I'd say too low! The worst is in Riviera - and highly overpriced too!
The Rio. There is a shuttle bus back and forth from the strip. The Rio looks deceptively close to the strip. Take the free shuttle bus, it`s not that close.
Recent reports is that the Rio's buffet has gone WAY downhill ever since Harrah's took over as owners of the hotel.

Bad has also been used to describe Circus Circus, Holiday Inn Boardwalk, and (surprise) Treasure Island.

Although could be costly, Paris, Alladin, Mirage, and Bellagio always seem to get high marks.

Lastly, i've heard the San Remo (slightly off the strip near NYNY/MGM/Trop) has the best value breakfast buffet (2 for 1 coupons can often be found) and has included made to order omelettes.
I agree with above poster in regards to the Rio buffet. It has gone way down in the past couple of years. If you have a rental car, try any of the Station casino buffets. And if you don't care about price then definetly go to Bellagio.
Sunset Station in Henderson is my favorite, not to mention one of the best priced and one of the cleanest!
Go to A2ZLasVegas for ratings of all the buffets and reader comments.
For food deals, I, to, thought the Sahara brunch was a teriffic deal but don't expect great atmosphere or gourmet food. But lots of variety and at a great price.
Best breakfast deal=Arizona Charleys. You get an 8 oz surloin steak or full slice of ham(huge), potatoes, bread, eggs for something like $2.99. Drink is extra and you need a car to get there from the strip. The breakfast special is served all day long.
My favorite buffet is the Mirage. As good as they get at a very good price. Half the price of Bellagio. Golden Nugget is good but variety is limited and the wait can be very long.
Orleans is much better than the Rio but again hard to get to without a car. The place is always full of locals. I also thought the Station casinos weren't bad but they do not have the fancier more expensive foods they do on the strip.
Please disregard comments from anyone who says the Rio's buffet is "the best in Las Vegas". Such comments indicate either lack of recent experience or limited overall experience.
Rio was best back in the days before the Bellagio and other high end hotels were built.
I agree about the Rio. Someone we know works there and told us Buffet costs have been cut back 40% when the corporation restructured a year or so ago. It was a big mistake, the Casino itself is not doing as well either. Sometimes a winning formula should not be changed. BTW, as residents, we agree that the Bellagio is best, followed by the Paris and then the Alladin. A super cheap buffet that's still enjoyable is at the Mirage. Off the strip Casinos have steak & eggs for $2.99 moonlight specials and other 99 cent breakfast deals. Have fun!
Please disregard my above marks regarding breakfast buffet at San Remo... it SHOULD be "breakfast buffet at The Orleans." (sorry)
Interesting that the Rio buffet supposedly deteriorated when Harrahs took over. The Forest Buffet at Harrahs Tahoe has also gone downhill recently. Apparently this is Harrahs attempt to save a few bucks due to decline in business perhaps?
Harrahs seeks middle-of-the-pack clientele in general. They're not out to compete with Bellagio and Venetian or even Mirage or Mandalay.
I'm not at all surprised when anything they control becomes mediocre.
Sorry about recommending the Rio-I personally do not go to buffets, but having stayed at the Rio often, I cannot help but notice the amazingly long lines of people waiting to get in to the seafood buffet starting around 4:00-to be first in line, I guess? Anyway, the Rio is also listed as best buffet on the NEON guide to Las Vegas Best of 2000-2001..Neon being the Las Vegas newspapers entertainment newspaper, you can get it online.
Thanks for all the replies.
I keep hearing about coupons for special deals for various things like two for one breakfast etc. Where do you find these coupons? Take care Fodorites.
You can find some in the free magazines found at the airport and at various hotel lobbies.

MANY are also given out inside the each hotel's casino "funbook" which you usually get for joining their slot club.

There is also a website, www.billhere.com , which lists coupons available and he will mail them to you for a (slight) handling charge. It's a good website to at least check out in order to have an idea of what type of coupons are available.
Once again thanks to all the wonderful people that responded.
Most knowledgeable visitors rate Bellagio and Alladin buffets at the highest quality. The Las Vegas Advisor currently rates the newly remodeled Gold Coast (Flamingo west of the Strip) buffet as a top ten value. Breakfast is temporarily priced @ $2.95 and dinner @ $7.95. There is a free shuttle from the Barbary Coast.
On a recent visit to Las Vegas we didn't get to the Aladdin buffet, which someone in this column said was good,,,,however I KNOW the PARIS buffet is wonderful (and the "lunch" hour goes until 5:30 pm,,,and is almost the same food as dinner after 5:30 and $5 less). We've eaten there twice in the last two years. Also the Mirage is good and very diverse! And the Mandalay Bay is WONDERFUL also....certainly worth trying. THere's not much difference in paying $l6,$l8, or $20!
just got back and had the buffet at both Alladin and Bellagio. Definitely without a Q the Alladin wins. Larger selection and also a few bucks cheaper but the quality of the Alladin was excellant and they had food from 5 different countries. Their dessert bar was far superior as well. Service was great and the prime rib could be cut with a fork.
Heck, I get food from "5 different countries" at my local Denny's buffet right here in Arkansas, including

French Fries
Pizza
Eggrolls
and BBQ (from Texas. It's a whole other country I hear)

Who needs to travel to some Arabian owned casino in Nevada anyway.

For breakfast, it's Golden Nugget hands-down. For dinner, it was Caesar's.
my preference order (visited all listed within past 2 years):

Bellagio
paris
alladin
man dalay bay
lv hilton
treasure island
flamingo hilton

I've never been on a cruise or to a buffet in Vegas, but on many threads, I've read about people waiting on line like cattle to eat in these places. Can someone explain the appeal to me? I honestly don't get it.
The appeal (not my style, either, but I have friends who like buffets) is that it's self serve (take whatever you please in any amount you choose), wide variety of choices, fixed price.
You know, like going to an amusement park...if you had to pay separately for every ride, you'd spend a lot of time and mental energy weighing your options and being selective. Paying a fixed price for entry allows freedom of choice, unlimited helpings, you can try things you might not end up liking and you pay nothing extra, etc.

Personally, I refuse to eat the amounts of food my friends eat at those LV buffets. Would make me ill.
I'll take quality over quantity any day.
And even at the buffets with fair quality, I simply would never allow myself to eat enough food to justify the price. Just my view.
Just returned from Vegas and ate at about 8 buffets. For dinner, I highly recommend the Paris buffet - superb! (You have to line up to get tickets for it in the morning though) For breakfast, definately the Statosphere. It overwhelmingly had the best selection, 10X better than the Mirage, and was a great value at $6.99.
I heard Stratosphere has a new outdoor attraction on its lot and adjacent land, it's called "A Walk Through Beirut".
You pay $5, they fit you with a flak jacket and arm you with pepper spray, then they send you out onto the property to walk around....at your own risk.
Most everyone who enters during daytime comes back unharmed, I've heard.
I am surprised that only one person referred to the Gold Coast buffet. Purely on price, but also on variety, it is the best deal right now at $2.95 for breakfast. We ate there 3 days last week. We also ate once at Treasure Island for $7.95, and the variety was noway comparable. The Gold Coast is right next to the Rio, to which one can take a shuttle bus from Harrah's. The only caveat, be there before 8:30, after that the lines get quite long.
