Bath and Body Works Outlet at Primm

Is it worthwhile going to the outlet stores at Primm before heading for Las Vegas in order to go to the Bath and Body Works outlet store?

leslie Jul 15th, 2002 05:21 PM

Is that the outlet at state line? If so, it is a really nice outlet mall and well worth the stop. They have outlets for Banana Republic, Hold Everything, William Sonoma, etc.

Mrs. D Jul 15th, 2002 09:51 PM

Thanks, leslie... that's the one, I think. Haven't been to a Bath and Body Works shop anywhere and I know there are lots of Bath and Body shops in California and Las Vegas -- but this one's an outlet store.

xxx Jul 15th, 2002 09:58 PM

Haven't been to the one at Primm, but I did run across a Bath & Body Works store at a large outlet mall in Northern California a few months ago. Unfortunately it was pretty much a normal store and there weren't any sale items. Big letdown at an outlet mall.

xxx Jul 16th, 2002 05:07 AM

There is also one in Zwiebrucken, Germany. I live about 20 minutes away and was thrilled that this store was so close. I was ultimately disappointed by the merchandise in the store, very limited selection of the same products that are in the store, and also the same price. It isn't a discount store at all, but they had a lot of those little travel size bottles. Big waste of time, on the otherhand the Burberry store and the Versace store where amazing and thank god they take Visa. I spent alot in those two stores and the merchandise was definetely priced right.

Mrs. D Jul 16th, 2002 07:53 AM

Thanks, guys! Now I wonder if stopping by the outlet in Primm is even a good idea since my main reason was to go to the Bath and Body outlet store!

Denise Jul 16th, 2002 08:06 AM

Whoa...before you make a trip specifically to the bath and body works outlet let me tell you my impression. I've been to several bath and body works outlets. They are usually in the Prime Outlets which are my favorite outlet stores. It has been my experience that the prices are the same as in the stores...so if the stores are having their clearance sales (Jan and June typically) then the outlets are too. This is different from the body shop outlet which typically has close outs on stuff and has things marked down. Hope this helps.

Stephanie P. Jul 16th, 2002 08:49 AM

I have about 4 Bath and Body Works stores 50 miles or less from me. Are they that rare?

Mrs. D Jul 17th, 2002 07:54 AM

Yep, none in Hawaii. One store in a Honolulu mall carries a few of their products but that's about it. Big deal here. B&BW won't even ship to HI, I just found out.

rgb Jul 17th, 2002 08:20 AM

We just returned from vegas and I would not waste your time going to the outlet mall in Primm. It's a big warehouse, depressing. We went specifically for Buberry and St. John. It was junk. The stuff no one wanted. We bought at the shop at the Venetian. Sorry, just sharing my personal experience.

xxx Jul 17th, 2002 08:29 AM

The outlet won't have any special deals, so just go to one of the stores there in Las Vegas and buy stuff to take back to Hawaii.

Tricia Jul 17th, 2002 08:33 AM

I was just at the Bath & Body shop in Caesar's Forum, Las Vegas, last week.
Was able to get some great buys! Bought lotion that was buy one, get one free. They had several items reduced. Tricia

Mrs. D Jul 18th, 2002 09:54 PM

Thanks a lot for sharing your experiences. Now I am wondering if it's worthwhile stopping by Primm except maybe to rest! It's just really crazy how B&BW is such a big deal here in the islands!

Lisa Jul 19th, 2002 03:52 AM

Are Bath and Body Works products a highly desired commodity all over the islands, or just in Honolulu? Here's the reason I'm asking: The concierge at the hotel I am staying at on the Big Island has been extremely helpful in setting up a special event for me. Hearing how coveted these products are, I am wondering if she would appreciate receiving a few, as a small gift, in addition to a tip. I want her to know how much I appreciate her going out of her way for me by going out of my way to purchase something she might like -but only if it is something that is really special to women on the Islands. Otherwise she might just think: Why did she buy me this? What do you think? Thanks for your help.

Mrs. D. Jul 19th, 2002 08:12 AM

Hi Lisa,
All I know is that a lot of my officemates have B&BW lotions, etc. on their desks and when someone goes to the mainland, friends request for or order B&BW products. I even see recycled B&BW paper bags being carried around. They're not available online and I recently found out we can't even mail order it. So yeah, I think gifts from B&BW would be totally special to local ladies in Hawaii. That's what I plan to bring back for gifts!

dana Jul 19th, 2002 12:40 PM

Wow. I had no idea how coveted these items were in Hawaii! Seems like there's one on every corner here.
Just got back from las vegas yesterday
and saw lots of bath and body stores in the hotels, et cet. No, I'm not confusing it with the Body Shops that are in every airport either. I've been to BB&W outlets here in California, and there wasn't any deals. Get the same price, i.e., 3 bottles of hand soap for 10 or 12 bucks. As for the outlets, I didn't go to the Primm outlets, but went to the other highly touted ones, I think it's called Belz Factory STores a couple of miles south of Mandalay Bay.
I didn't really think it was such a great place. But that's probably because we have outlet stores just like theirs 40 miles north of our home.
They may have had BB&W, but I don't recall seeing it if they did. maybe they have a web site where you could check. Belz Factory Outlets, Las Vegas

Mrs. D. Jul 19th, 2002 09:21 PM

Thanks, Dana! It's really weird how sought after B&BW are here, eh? Just imagine me wanting to make a special trip to a mall or outlet store in So, CA and Las Vegas just to see B&BW! I am absolutely curious. My friend preferred Primm over Belz but I realize now different people have their own preferences. Only the Primm outlet has B&BW. But now that I know that the prices are the same, I won't control myself at the first B&BW store that I set foot in! Thanks all!

Mom Jul 20th, 2002 06:39 AM

We have a B&BW store in our small town mall (town pop. 20,000)and it's constantly busy. I can't even IMAGINE how much my 10 year old daughter has spent in there. If she receives money as a gift or a mall gift certificate she races straight for B&BW. They are masters at marketing to women of all ages. I wouldn't stress too much about hitting the outlet--go to the store at Caesars instead. Since it's late summer they have huge discounts before stocking up for fall/holidays. Fun fun fun!

Judy Jul 20th, 2002 06:46 AM

OK, now you all got me curious. We have a Bath & Body Works store here at our local mall, and I usually just stroll on by. So what am I missing? What are the great items I should be seeking out?

Mrs. D. Jul 20th, 2002 09:12 AM

What I see a lot is the cucumber and melon hand lotion. This is just so mind boggling, huh? Thanks for your advice, MOM. My daughter has received cute B&BW stuff for girls as well so she is excited, too. One of my friends is going to Las Vegas next week and plan to take B&BW orders from officemates. I know this is hard to believe for you gals who see B&BW shops all over the place up there!

Judy Jul 23rd, 2002 10:58 AM

Thanks for the response. Does anyone know if this stuff is similar to Garden Botanika? I used to like that, but they went out of business (although I think they may still have a website)?

ttt Jul 24th, 2002 05:35 AM

SarahZK Jul 24th, 2002 01:06 PM

I am shocked that anyone would go to such efforts to buy Bath and Body Works Products, which are overpriced and of a very low quality.
Sorry to be a sour grape!

dana Jul 24th, 2002 06:55 PM

BB&W has some nice products. However,
the Body Shop's products use fresher ingredients.
Some of the Bb&W stuff is nauseating, without naming flavors (Hazelnut)...oops
and some are wonderful!
I like their hand lotions. I especially love their soaps in the bottle, Melon, Lemon, Juniper Berry.
I like Garden Botanika a little more than BB&W, but once again, it's personal preference. has anyone tried the Satsuma from Body Shop? Mmmm. It's fabulous! But only if you like oranges.

Stephanie P. Jul 24th, 2002 07:08 PM

I disagree with you. B&BW has some really great shower gels, sprays and lotions. I like Vanilla Sugar in Summer and Vanilla Spice in fall/winter. The hand cleanser is excellent and anti-bacterial.

Claudette Jul 25th, 2002 12:48 PM

I also love Bath and Body Works. They have so many great fragrances at affordable prices. Just for your information I have purchased many new and unopened B&BW items on www.ebay.com.

S Jul 25th, 2002 01:03 PM

I'm allergic to formaldehyde and formaldehyde releasers (preservatives). For me, Bath & Body Works is useless. I can't use anything they sell.

L Jul 30th, 2002 05:43 AM

1. Does this mean B&BW stuff has formaldehyde? Is that common in these types of products?

2. What B&BW scents/products do people recommend the most?

janis Jul 30th, 2002 05:32 PM

I know it is personal opinion, but I avoid B&BW whenever I can. When I see one in a mall I try to give it a wide berth. The fake fruit smells wafting out rival the worst candle shop you could imagine.

Body Shop is better and Origins, Aveda or any number of other brands/shops are better yet.

Sue Jul 30th, 2002 06:03 PM

My favorite is Tranquil Sleep mineral bath salts--not overly perfumed IMO. But the best is Body Shop's Ayurveda (Pitta) pillow spray––puts me right to sleep!

S Jul 31st, 2002 07:05 AM

Formaldehyde is a naturally occuring substance in nature. Almost ALL toiletries have formaldehyde or a formaldehyde releaser in them to prevent the product from spoiling. Start reading the labels for ingredients in the products you buy.

From my dermatologist, here is a list of commonly used Formaldehyde Releasers:
DMDM hydantoin
Quarternium-15 (or Polyquarternium-##)
Imidazolidnyl urea (mascara)
Dimethylolurea
Hexamethylene tetramine
There are 10 more listed. Do you need them?

Abbreviated list of Products containing Formaldehyde:
Textiles and clothing: Miracle fabrics (perm press, etc.), tanned leather, furs
Cosmetics: shampoo, lotion, bath soaps, blush, rouge, bath preparations, ddry skin treatment lotion, facial masks, hair tonic & grooming aids, hair dye, makeup foundation & base, mascara, eyebrow pencil, other eye makeup, nail creams & polish, sachets, powders, perfumes, etc.
Other: adhesives cleaners, dishwasher detergents, disinfectants, dry cleaning & spotting fluids, paper, polishes & finishes, etc.

How did I find out I was allergic to all this stuff? I was using Dove soap, Almay makeup, no nail polish, and washing my clothes in Tide/Cheer/All FREE detergent. My skin was peeling. Eyelids were red, swollen, peeling, itchy, etc. Skin patch testing was ordered.

Mrs. D. Jul 31st, 2002 08:04 AM

S: I'm curious, what safe make-up, skin care, etc. product brands do you use?

S Jul 31st, 2002 12:16 PM

- The Redken products don't have any of the more common formaldehyde releasers listed as ingredients. For my hair, I usually use them.
- Mascara is usually out of the question. Although I did recently buy some from my hair stylist that I can use.
- Believe it or not, some of the Revlon products seem to work well without making my face peel.
- I still wash my clothes in All/Tide/Cheer free laundry detergent. I use the "free" fabric softener when I can find it.
- We use Zest bath soap. All these cool liquid bath products are absolutely out of the question. Dove is out of the question, because I'm also allergic to lanolin.

Between the lanolin and formaldehyde allergies, my product selections is fairly limited. Fortunately, short term usage (i.e., whatever my stylist uses) does not bother me. I just can't use products with the mentioned chemicals repeatedly.

Mrs. D. Jul 31st, 2002 09:49 PM

Thanks, S. Very interesting. I have sensitive skin also and have to try on products for my face first before purchasing but it's not as bad as yours. I just reacted to Lancome Resurface. Man, my skin peeled and tingled, it's awful! Some B&BW products have a strong scent that I can't tolerate but I know I'm going to go nuts when I enter a B&BW store for the first time. There is just to much hype for B&BW here in Hawaii. Take care.

S Aug 1st, 2002 05:29 AM

Try reading the listed ingredients label on the products that you react to the most. The one that I can just about guarantee that I'll react to is Imidazolidnyl urea. The formaldehyde releasers that I listed are the ones I see the most often. Look for them on the label.

The other ingredients that frequently cause problems are fragrances or lanolin or lanolin derivatives. I'm not allergic to the fragrances, so I don't have info on them. On the lanolin, check for any word in the ingredient list that looks like lanolin, such as lanolinamide, lanosterol, laneth-#. You may have to do some note taking for a while. Looking at my info papers, some lanolin-allergic people also react to cetyl and cetearyl alcohol.

Hope this helps.

Mrs. D. Aug 1st, 2002 07:59 AM

Thank you, S!

kam Aug 1st, 2002 08:57 AM

If you know what you want you can get it on EBay.

S Aug 1st, 2002 09:01 AM

Looking through the posts again, I realized that the mascara I bought from my hairstylist is made by Aveda. It listed none of the more common formaldehyde releasers. However, I can't use their hair products because I recognize the chemicals used.
