travelinjo:

If I were you, I think you'd get a much better response if you posted your Q in a separate thread asking about off-strip properties. This thread title asks about Bally's and anyone with info about those other hotels may not even click on it because it says it's about Bally's.

Maybe a thread like "Opinions on off-strip Vegas properties?" or if you want info about certain places, include them in the thread title. I've never stayed off-strip but a lot of people like places like the Platinum and the Desert Rose, or downtown hotels.

PS: Oops, I see you already have a thread asking about the Platinum, without many responses.

Maybe Fodorites don't have a lot of experience at the Platinum, but I know the tripadvisor reviews are good. TA also has a very active Vegas forum and you might want to ask there about specific properties.

Thanks cheryllj.

Love the Palms..great casino where we win and the rooms are nice with memory foam and high end sheets..this is where we sometimes stay if the Wynn is too high.
I like to gamble downtown LV but not really stay there..Golden Nugget would be the best place to stay and the rooms are nice and affordable.
If your going in the summer, its stinking hot and I can't think of one place that we have ever stayed at that had a balcony..just really isn't the place for that but some great pools.
I have mixed feelings on Trip Advisor but its good to get ideas but I wouldn't take all of what they say to the bank..neither would I on Fodor's.
What are your dates?
Expedia.com is a good base for prices, pics and comparsion shopping.
Sign up for the Wynn Las Vegas e-mail to get killer rates and resort credit..40-50 year olds would enjoy this hotel vs. the other ones that aren't so new and showing their age..kind of like the age group.;)

Bally's south tower suites have balconies, not sure about their other rooms. Just made ressies for summer at a pretty good rate of $79. Haven't stayed there in all our trips and like it's location, too.

ellen_griswold: Have you actually stayed in a room at Bally's that allowed you to go out onto the balcony?

I remember having a room with a "fake" balcony, but you couldn't actually open the windows or go out there. I really don't think they have those kind of balconies there, even for the suites, but maybe I'm wrong.

Two years ago we stayed at Ballys south tower. Our room had a narrow concrete balcony.but the glass doors were screwed shut.I would have been too scared to stand on it anyway.

Thanks, Logandog and Cheryllj. I cancelled bally's and booked a junior suite at the mgm signature. They supposedly have 'real' balconies :) Also got what seems to be a good rate of $99.

I like the Mirage. It is my favourite hotel in Las Vegas and feels like Old Las Vegas to me. There is something about the buzz of the casino that makes me feel comfortable. There is always a line to eat in the coffee shop when the restaurants in the the other casinos are dead.

I also like that it not a theme hotel like the horrid Venetian or Paris.

I recently booked a renovated room in the north tower for 79.00 in mid June. $149 was the price quoted for a deluxe room or suite or something fancier than the normal room category. I'd check again.

travelinjo Apr 30th, 2010 12:33 PM

Ellen and Iamg, where did you find your rates? I got a Jr. Suite with Balcony for $109, and a regular room for $85. Not that different but just curious :)

iamq Apr 30th, 2010 01:28 PM

I found the rate on the Bally's website.

I personally like the south tower. They have views of the Bellagio fountains. The rooms are tacky but the view makes up for it.
