Bagging a bargain on Black Friday?
I am holding back buying airfares and hotel rooms until the 27th November and looking to get bargain flights to Hawaii and hotels both in New York and Hawaii. Has anyone any experience of getting a bargain? Am I going to be disappointed? Any words of warning/advice as to how to manoeuvre around various sites on the 27th? Is it best direct with airlines and hotels or through sites like Trivago, Booking.com etc?

I doubt you will get any bargains.
We book hotels as far ahead as possible and recheck/rebook if bargains crop up. Flights, I look as soon as we know our dates and buy as soon as I'm happy with the price and/or route, times and connections. In the past we've paid between $600 and $1000 for flights to Hawaii from Boston. We only go in the winter and at peak times so $1000 for Presidents week isn't unheard of. I've seen lower prices but not when I can travel! Good luck! |
For NYC the sooner you buy the better your chance at a decent price - since the decent places offering any deals are taken far in advance. Not sure why you think Black Friday will matter - that's for retail - not travel.

Fodor's sent out an email a couple of days ago about Black Friday travel deals.

Thanks all. ElendiPickle provides an alternative view. Well its not too long to find out and I will give feedback as to how I get on. I am not travelling until September 2016 so that far away enough, methinks!?

Thanks, ElendilPickle!

If you are travelling from the UK to Hawaii via NYC I would try to book the flights all together from a consolidator in the UK.
I fly quite a bit and unless it's a LCC I never book direct with airlines especially a multi city ticket, a couple of weeks ago I saved nearly $1800 by going through an agent rather the price quoted by the airline. |
Here's another one, if you're looking for a package deal.

Try costcotravel.com They have some great packages [with and without air] that include upgrades, cars etc
You can view the deals without being a member. If you find something, it will likely be worth the $55 to join, even if you don't/won't ever shop there. https://www.costcotravel.com/Vacatio...IOTTBC20140121 https://www.costcotravel.com/Vacatio...HNLOGG20140307 |
I've been seeing Black Friday deals for NYC hotel rooms.
Today I got emails from The Refinery, The Quinn and The Library Collection of hotels. I think Tryp, too, but I didn't pay much attention to that one. I booked on Black Friday last year for New York and got The Refinery Hotel at a good rate. I do think that most of these sales that I've seen are before the end of March. I booked The Renwick a couple of weeks ago and if we weren't staying for 3 nights, I would switch to The Quinn, but it's about $40 more per night than we're paying. I would love to stay there, and today they had a rate of $240 a night for our weekend in February. |
Thanks all. I am now appreciating that the bargains are for earlier dates than I intend but will see what Friday brings.

I think cyber Monday is the day for deals.
www.starTribune.com/travel scroll down a little bit for the cyber monday article |
Like it or not, I suspect these "deals" in terms of travel and hotel space may very well be like any other "deals" that are placed on discounter sites: it is inventory which is not selling as well as the hotel would prefer, hence the dates.
But that is OK if you are willing to travel during those periods. A warm coat is often worth wearing when you think of all the money you are saving and crowds you are avoiding. |
My flights and hotel regarding Hawaii are now booked but nothing to do with Black Friday, I found no bargains out there.

Well, if anyone else is looking, I got a Cyber Monday email from Morgans Group and booked The Morgan for $178 per night. We've stayed there before and it's a nice small hotel. Friendly.

It isn't New York, but we bought RT Air New Zealand tickets from LAX to Queenstown on Cyber Monday with a sizable discount. :-)

Not Queenstown, Christchurch.
