Baby It's Cold Outside!
I don't know how it is in other places, but northern New England is going thru some record breaking cold. It was -24 f this morning in central New Hampshire, and tomorrow and Sunday are supposed to be even colder! If you are planning to come up skiing this weekend, you may want to reconsider.
Pretty much early spring here in Seattle. The Daffs in my backyard have flower heads, my flowering plum tree is in bloom and a few of the bushes are leafing out.

Was on the Oregon Coast last weekend (Cannon Beach) and the Daffs were already blooming there (along with quite a few other things). Pretty mild there along the beach.

I Used to live in cold winter areas.
I don't miss it.

Ken
I have Spring Fever here in Okla. today. High temp in mid 70's and the sun is shining! Tomorrow we get a cold front with strong north winds and a high in mid 40's.
I'm with Zootsie...Stay away! Stay away! You'll freeze to death!! (and I'll have no lift lines...8^))
Well, here it is about 24 and almost two in the afternoon so I guess this is as warm? as it is going to get today!
And more snow is forecast:(
Sorry:) "here" is NYC.
I don't mind the snow, but this brutal cold is getting ridiculous!
And I know I look ridiculous with earmuffs!!! and I need a little bitty nose thinge like a nosemuff:)
Heard the weather guys this AM, says coldest airmass in decades coming to Northeast tonight!! -10 tonight in Connecticut!!
Low tonight is supposed to be 12F in Manhattan with a windchill of -5 to -10. YIKES!!

I like the idea of a nose muff ;-)
Hang in there Zootsi! We just got a break from the cold. It's almost above freezing here in Milwaukee. Hopefully this warming trend will move east quickly. I just hope we don't get hit with those INCHES of freezing rain they were expecting would hit somewhere along this HUGE El Nino weather system spanning the country right now!
Hi Sara-The freezing rain is supposed to hit us here in Ohio followed by snow. I am curling up in front of the fire with dh tonight and tomorrow going through the garden catalogs...
-30 Celsius (-22 F) for tonight in Barrie Ontario (one hour north of Toronto).

High of -15 Celsius today (+5 F).

At least the sun is shining today :-)

Happy Valentine's Day!
This morning here in Naples, Florida I found it a little chilly also. In fact I wore long pants instead of shorts with my t-shirt for my hour long beach walk. But it has warmed up now, it's currently a sunny 78. OK, so hate me!!!
Patrick, that is liable to get you mugged by a bunch of angry cold Yankees!! :o)
I actually like the winter, just as long as there is lots of snow, and the temps stay between 10 and 30 above. When it gets below zero it gets tough - the snowblower is hard to start, it's too cold to ski, etc. I still prefer living up here, however - builds character! ;-)
The heck with building character!!!! I can't wait to get down to Florida in 2 weeks. Patrick, you lucky dog!!
Ah, but I'll soon be walking the beach too. And now I must bundle up to take the dog for a walk...
buckeyemom, If you get that freezing rain, make sure you know where the flashlights, candles, and matches are and keep the fire stoked. You are likely to lose power if you get that much ice. Good luck!
New Jersey is also in for 2 snowstorms this weekend. As my dear departed Grandmother would say, it's colder then sin out. I'm tired of the snow and can't wait to be in Florida in two weeks also, Kodi. I just may not go home. Unfortunatly, my husband and I have promised our youngest (age 14) that we won't move until she's out of school. Then, see ya. And hello South Carolina!
TWO snowstorms?!?! I hear only one and that were are only supposed to get about an inch or two. Is that now incorrect?
How cold is it in Boston? you ask. It's so cold the lawyers have their hands in their own pockets...the flashers on Boston Common are handing out pictures of themselves.
LOL, Gene. Thanks for the chuckle.
You Know When It Is Cold When-

Californians put on sweaters (if they can find one)

Miami residents turn on the heat

Vermont residents go to outdoor concerts

Californians shiver uncontrollably

Minnesotans go swimming

Italian cars don't start

Water freezes

You plan your vacation to Australia

Minnesotans eat ice cream

Canadians go swimming

Miami residents plan vacation further South

French cars don't start

The Cat insists on sleeping in your bed with you

American cars don't start

Alaskans put on T-shirts

German cars don't start

Arkansans stick tongue on metal objects

Miami residents cease to exist

Gene and Lola - You guys should get paid for this stuff....hysterically funny!!! By the way, it's 5:03 in Ft Lauderdale right now and a balmy 70 degrees. I'm from Ohio originally and can I just say....I've never missed that horrible weather. Sorry!
It is 32F in chicago right now positively balmy compared to our recent weather, I even cracked my office window and went for a walk during lunch. Hopefully we are sending some of that 'warmer' air out east. Anyway, about the cold, I understand, having lived in the upper midwest most my life.
Well, if our weather in South Dakota and Minnesota is a predictor of what you folks in Ohio and the East Coast will have tomorrow, I'd suggest stocking up on food, movies and wine. We cancelled our trip to Omaha this morning, due to the 1/4 inch of ice. This afternoon, it has been snowing steadily and I would say we have about 4-5 inches at this point. Yes, they say that there is another storm following this one - late Sunday or early Monday.
MicheleNYC-

According to the website accuweather.com, the storm tonight won't drop much (so they say). But the one expected on Sunday has the potential for quite a bit of snow. So far the predictions for Western NJ (where I live) are up to a foot of snow. I swear I'll never complain about muggy weather in August again. If I do, then I have a use for all that duct tape. You can tape my mouth shut.
Thanks for the info (and the laugh), Jersey. I'll make sure to stock up on munchies and lots of wine.
Hey group:

Very funny crowds here! Hey Jersey, I live in western jersey myself!
Had a 4 cat night last night! All kitties and the misses snuggled together Brrrrrrr,,,,,,
I have an old 1872 farmhouse. The heating oil int he outside oil tank has "jelled" and I had to light a wood stove just for heat! YIKES!

Still would not trade with Patrick! My friend called Florida " God's waiting room"!!.... Hey he said it, I didn't!!
JOHN
60 degrees and brilliant sunshine in Oregon. Big fluffy clouds - spring is almost here. Of course California is getting all our rain. Noticed some other flowers poking their heads up this morning. Not a flake of snow this year - wish it could be spread around a bit, our ski slopes are closed or hurting.
Here in Los Angeles, the rain is gone! And it is now in the mid sixties and sunny again, we just can't take weather here, especially rain. We take it as an insult that we have to think about getting wet.
Here is a fun project to try if your temp. falls below 10 degrees and you have a bottle of soap bubbles. The bubbles you blow will turn to ice crystals. When they bump into something they will break just like glass. Pretty cool, pardon the pun.
bmw732002 & michelleNYC

Stay warm people, and have a glass of wine for me. (and my sister mocked me for buying a down comforter in NJ). I live in Hunterdon county where old beautiful homes are plenty. But they aren't very energy efficent. One of our cats has taken up permanent residence under the covers of my daughters bed. I'm beginning to think anywhere the temperature is over 40 degrees would be a heat wave.

Hey SaraLM-I always wanted to visit Oregon. Sounds darn near like paradise now.
OK,
It's zero F just south of Franconia Notch right now....going to 15 below tonite. The drains are frozen, so I guess I'll have to go out to eat tonite 8^).

Why put up with this? Just like the line in Field of Dreams "...look up into a sky so blue it makes your eyes hurt."
Oops,
I'm sorry...that would be 21 below...
FL may be "God's waiting room", as bmw732002 says, but God apparently has a more creative decorator than New England does. You can have your landscape in any color you like, as long as it's white.
That's OK, bmw, I wouldn't trade with you to live in New Jersey either. And those who call Florida "God's Waiting Room" didn't walk down Naples' Fifth Avenue at 10 PM as I did tonight. The temperature was still near 70, and the sidewalks were filled with the overflow from the bars and restaurants -- average age maybe 30 or so, except at the outdoor patios of Coffe Co. and Starbucks, filled with the under 21 crowd who aren't allowed in the bars.
I am so tired of EVERY weekend here for the last 4 being ruined by SNOW --

This weekend we are expecting an ICE storm to hit and then turn to up to 12 inches of snow!!

And this is VIRGINIA!!!

Fla is looking better and better every day!!!
Time for the West Coast to chime in! Cloudy and overcast in the south SF Bay Area today with a high in the low 60s. We're supposedly going to be hit by a big storm tomorrow afternoon and night. Maybe it'll probably be cool enough to light a fire in the fireplace.

Spring has sprung around here with lots of flowering fruit trees. They're beautiful.
Here in Honolulu it is STORMING. Rain, the island is covered with thick black clouds, high wind, and it's cold...somewhere around mid 60s I think. This morning's news reported it is worse on Maui! Winter is truly here.
