Austin GTG June 14
The Great and Powerful Thingorgus is coming to Austin!!
I am trying to organize a GTG somewhere in the Austin area but first I would like to get a head count. If you are interested please post to this thread. I have already posted this in the lounge, please feel free to respond to either thread. |
Oooh! Sounds fun, P_M. Count me in a a very strong "maybe". I'll check with the Mr. as he needs to visit a client there so this could work out nicely!
(Is Swisshiker still in the Austin area?) |
Hi BeachGirl247, it would be great to see you again. Swisshiker is still in Austin but she doesn't visit Fodor's much. I will send her an email.
|
So bummed! I missed this by just a few weeks! Just got home on Wednesday! Have a really wonderful time!
|
Cat it's next month...
PM, I'll prob go if it's really in Austin, or nearby. (I.e not Gruene, etc) |
Oh. Wait. No. My company picnic is 14th. If it's in evening I could stop by. Oh well.

Hello all,
We are looking at 2pm at Z Tejas at 1110 W. 6th St. If you would like to join us please respond to this or one of my other threads. Please come if you can. |
I will stop by for a drink. My company picnic is at 4.
|
Hooray!! I look forward to seeing you.
|
:( already have plans for that night, but will probably in the Austin area mid-week.
|
I am so terrified I am shaking.
I don't think I will fit in with Texas. Keith has just given me a Klonopin to calm down. Thin |
Maybe you won't fit in Texas but you certainly will in Austin. I saw a bumper sticker once that read: I"m NOT from Texas -I'm from AUSTIN."
Totally different here. If anyone shoud Secede, it's Austin from Texas... |
I don't fit into Texas but I'm a perfect fit for Austin. No worries Thinny.
|
Austin and P-M ...exactly how I felt when I would go to Austin from Dallas...
|
And I hope Keith joins us at ztejas. :)
|
We are at the Barton Square Mall fixin to go see Fault in Our Stars.
Everyone is being too nice. We can't stand it. I want to pick a fight, maybe go to Whole Foods and tell a checker that the Organic kale smells like Windex :) Thin |
I'm sorry to hear you are not meeting enough rude people here in Austin. I will try to make it up to you at the GTG.
|
Yea! Thin is "fixin" to go see… At least he has learned the correct way to say things in Texas!
|
LOL. Try the Whole Foods at 5th and Lamar. It's their flagship store. Its one of the top tourist attractions in Austin. Seriously. I think second only to Barton Springs - which you might try too, considering it will be in the upper 90s tomorrow.
Yeah, I'll try to be rude too on Saturday. By the way, what name are the reservations under? I prob won't get there till 230ish. Start without me. |
I've been trying to think of insults all afternoon to make Thinny's visit to Austin more enjoyable. I am going to ask if he is wearing last year's Armani. Or worse yet, I will accuse him of wearing costume jewelry. :-O
The reservation is for 2pm under the name P Fodors. |
Thin, you asked why all hotels booked - I just figured it out. This weekend is the ROT Rally- Republic of Texas Biker rally! Biggest biker rally in the state. Good times. ;)
|
Yes, I know that now.
Saw a flyer for bikers. I have no luck. It will probably be a zoo downtown. Thin |
Yes it will but last week it was X games (skateboarders, etc). It's something almost EVERY weekend. Actually ROT is interesting. They are a good group. Yup.
|
That makes me feel a tad better.
Friends were somewhere in the Carolinas during Black Biker Week and they heard gunshots all night long. Thin |
The ROT events are out at TX Expo Center, away from town. however the American Statesman property, just across the Congress Avenue Bridge has events as well. Great musical lineup, as expected, including Los Lonely Boys, Bright Lights Social Hour, Ruby Jane.
Just remember if you are driving to watch for the bikers! |
We are now at Arboretum Shopping Center.
There is a Z Tejas here, next to Eddie V. We had a nice conversation with a checked at Target. She gave us a paper bag. We asked why no plastic and it turns out that Austin has banned plastic bags! This is as bad as when I lived in California and a lady ripped my Styrofoam food container out of my hands and threw it over a fence. She screamed I was ruining the environment. Thin, hates do-gooders |
Yes there is a plastic bag ban here in Austin but no ban on styrofoam which seems a little strange. You'll be OK Thinny, people here are too nice to rip off your styrofoam food container.
|
But paper is trees, bring a reusable bag. I am good with paying for a plastic bag if you must. I take bags now when in Europe or buy them as souvenirs. I have Trader Joe bags from all over. The new Fl bag is so cute.
Thin, think that was Myrtle Beach and there were some shootings this year. Normally bike events are very harmless. |
We aren't quite like California. Not with Rick Perry at the helm anyway. Man, what a freakin idiot. I gave to the Human Rights Campaign tonight. Haven't done that in awhile. He was my motivation..
I want to tell him to just not have sex with his wife tonight... But I digress. |
Are you down there for the Texas Bikers Rally? A friend calls it the best chance to get a donated organ all year.
|
We have just checked into the Hyatt Downtown on E Third Street.
We stayed with Aunt and Uncle Keith for 2 days at there home in the hills near the Arboretum Shopping Center. We are at the Hyatt all weekend. I am looking forward to our brunch tomorrow at Z Tejas. No, Warren, we are not in town for the rally. Thin |
THat is a well located, neat hotel.
have you checked out SoCo yet? South Congress Avenue on the other side of the river? |
We just got back from So Co Ave.
There is a street in Philly just like it called South Street. The Bikers are out in full force as are the POLICE. We went past a cute restaurant set in a garden on a hill on So Co. Maybe we will go there on Sunday. I am exhausted. Tomorrow I want to get up early and walk along the Town Lake. Thin |
I want to see pics of you and Janet. This will be a fun get together.
|
Great idea! I used to jog town lake until I moved farther away from city.
Was the restaurant you mention on SoCo Perla's? |
Yes!!!
Perla's! Thanks! Thin |
I've just come home from the GTG. Like all GTGs it was great fun. We had Thinny, Seamus, Austin, follow_your_bliss and Mr. fyb. Thinny is a delightful person and it was so good to finally meet him. It was also a pleasure to meet Austin for the first time and it's always great to see the fyb's and Seamus. As you can imagine we all had many good laughs together.
We are all hoping Thinny and Keith will return to TX very soon. |
Just got home from Austin. Had a great time but three hours wasn't enough!
|
Delightful?
And here I was going for caustic, but will try harder next time! Thanks for lunch, fyb! My heart is full, but my glass is empty! Thin, who hates your baby |
