Atlanta GTG Finalized!!!!

Hello!!

We have a plan--thank you so much Iceeu2!!

Sat., Sept. 17th 1.30pm til ?
Maggiano's Little Italy Buckhead
3368 Peachtree Rd. * Atlanta, GA 30326-1009

They will do a family style menu....2 salads, 2 pastas, 2 entrees and 2 desserts for $13.95 pp. Add $3 pp if we wanted to add appetizers. The $13.95 price does not include drinks, gratuities, or taxes...No problem doing separate checks.

For those who have never been, it's Southern Italian style restaurant served family style and all you can eat. It's possible to order from the full menu but not sure if they would be able to do that w/a group as large as we'll probably have.

I like Maggiano's--I've been there at least a half dozen times and hope that all of you will too. Food is good and it's a great place for a large group.

We now need to know if you are a definate yes, no or probable so as to reserve a table/s. And if you are bringing a friend or significant other, please let me know that too.

The location is excellent as it's right by the Buckhead Marta station on Peachtree Road--Maggiano's is across the street from the Financial Center..

Check things out:

www.itsmarta.com

Please RSVP via email as soon as possible so that I can let Maggiano's plan for the trouble we're going to cause ;)

LoveItaly Aug 10th, 2005 06:16 PM

bonniebroad Aug 11th, 2005 04:21 AM

ttt for OWJ! :-) (I wish I could come, OWJ ... We have Maggiano's in Durham, and I LOVE it!)

OneWanderingJew Aug 11th, 2005 09:02 AM

Bonnie,
No excuses--come! We'll just priceline you a great room nearby and then we'll all hang out :)

And afterwards, we'll head over to LA Fitness and work off the meal or better yet hit the malls and do the shopper's workout.

OWJ

bonniebroad Aug 11th, 2005 09:10 AM

OWJ, that shopper's workout sounds REAL GOOD! :D (I'm getting ready for a real workout ... DGD, seven years old, arrives tomorrow morning for three weeks! =-O :p )

starrsville Aug 11th, 2005 11:01 AM

OWJ, thanks for all the hard work! This sounds great! Count me in. Right now, I'm coming solo. If that changes, I'll let you know.

Looking forward to a GTG!

Bob_W Aug 11th, 2005 11:12 AM

What does "GTG" mean?

Tiff Aug 11th, 2005 12:31 PM

Hi Bob, GTG stand for "get together" (As in a Fodorite get together)

Bonniebroad, I had to think a minute on DGD... possibly dear God Daughter?????????? That's my best guess.

OWJ, Sounds like a great GTG! How lucky they are to have you planning it!

Best wishes for a wonderful time everyone, Tiff

topping

OneWanderingJew Aug 11th, 2005 02:02 PM

Tiff,
Can't take all the credit--iceeu2 has been a big help and in fact was the one who contacted Maggiano's. She deserves the pat on the back!!

OWJ

Don't forget to RSVP people so we have enough room for everyone.

Tiff Aug 11th, 2005 02:07 PM

Iceeu2 ~ =D>

OldSouthernBelle Aug 11th, 2005 05:01 PM

If I'm not working that Satuday, I'm planning to be there! Will try the Priceline thing...

Starsville, that makes me feel better, as I may be solo as well!

Belle

starrsville Aug 11th, 2005 05:56 PM

Come solo - you'll be with (Fodor) friends! :-)

OneWanderingJew Aug 11th, 2005 06:13 PM

You're absolutely right, Starrs!

Belle--I really hope work doesn't get in the way of you coming. Keep me posted on that work schedule of yours...

LoveItaly Aug 11th, 2005 06:26 PM

Hi Tiff, when I read DGD I assume (perhaps incorrectly) it referes to dear granddaughter. Good wishes to all of you at the Atlanta GTG.

bonniebroad Aug 11th, 2005 06:35 PM

DGD, in my case, is *darling granddaughter.* :-) And she is darling! ;;)

starrsville Aug 12th, 2005 03:58 AM

atlswan, are you coming? I'm really looking forward to meeting you!

OneWanderingJew Aug 12th, 2005 05:16 AM

Starrsville--
I haven't heard from atlswan. Let's keep this topped so she'll see it :)

OWJ

iceeu2 Aug 12th, 2005 05:18 AM

OWJ...I will be there and at this point the real icee is planning to be there as well..

bonniebroad...just have to tell you this..I know how excited you are with your DGD on her way...last weekend I went to my DGD's sleepover with 7 ..count them..7....6, 7 & 8 year old girls..At one point during the evening..one of the kids said something to me and DGD said..."Yeah, my grandmother is really cool"! Boy did my head swell! Gotta love em!

Anyway, guess this was just topping for the GTG!

iceeu2 Aug 12th, 2005 06:01 AM

Woooooooohoooooooooooo!

Get your shopping shoes on! Just pricelined (09/16-09/18) and got the JW Marriott Hotel Buckhead for $65!

FYI, for those that are thinking of using priceline for the GTG...in June I got the Intercontinental for $65, in July the Grand Hyatt for $65 and now the JWM for $65...I always start lower (today at $59), but the jackpot chimes at $65.

Now that I have a great place to stay...I'm really excited!

FainaAgain Aug 12th, 2005 08:54 AM

Wish I could join you guys!

iceeu2 Aug 12th, 2005 09:55 AM

So why cantcha join us Faina? They have this wonderful thing called a jet aeroplane and a great big place in Atlanta called an aeroport!

Come on...let us show you some southern hospitality.

FainaAgain Aug 12th, 2005 10:02 AM

Georgiaaaaaa..... on my miiiiiindddddd.... :-"

I will be in Palm Spring on my honeymoon then :*

I don't mind if somebody hops on a jet then... Palm Springs has even an interntaional airport! =D>

iceeu2 Aug 12th, 2005 03:15 PM

ttt this Friday night...atslwan posted on a Nashville thread today...so maybe someone can go to that thread and see what gives.

Belle, I'm with the others..you definitely need to join in...solo is sometimes a lot more fun...you are just getting together with friends you haven't met!

syd1 Aug 12th, 2005 04:12 PM

So happy to see the great response for the Atlanta GTG. I was a bit downtrodden after the last attempt!! In any case, put us down for 2. We'll be there unless our newest addition shows up that day (am due a few days later!)
Looking forward to meeting everyone.

atlswan Aug 12th, 2005 04:59 PM

Hi, guys! Just saw today's post about the GTG.

I wasn't sure if I'd be around to go to the GTG so that's why I haven't been able to give a firm answer about coming. But I think I'll be able to come now that I'm not working full time. And lunch at Maggiano's is very hard to say no to!

OWJ, I'll shoot you my RSVP shortly so you can have a sound headcount.

Just be advised that I can guarantee that I'm the least travelled person in this group! ;-)

I'll be on my own since my sweetie is not nearly as into travel as I am.

iceeu2 Aug 13th, 2005 04:10 AM

Saturday morning topping..

How many OWJ?

OneWanderingJew Aug 13th, 2005 04:49 AM

I2--We have 13 definate yes's (15 with samsaf as long as she doesn't have the baby) and about 6 maybes. There are some people who expressed an interest initially but haven't heard from them at all--if you are one of those busy Fodorites, do reconfirm, please :)

Atlswan--This is just a reason for people who love to travel and are curious about the world to get together--doesn't matter how many places you've visited. I'm so glad you're coming!

iceeu2 Aug 13th, 2005 05:11 AM

Is samsaf with child as well as syd1?

And, atlswan, we may be in competition for the least travelled.

Isn't this exciting? Friends....make the world go around!

Samsaf Aug 13th, 2005 05:22 AM

HA! I just read the posts this mornings. I think OWJ was confusing me with someone else. Samsaf is definitely NOT with child! My 21-, 18- and 16- year-old kids would be in shock. And now I'm going to go show my husband these posts for his joke of the day!

OneWanderingJew Aug 13th, 2005 05:37 AM

Omigawd! Now this is how rumors start...ahhhhh....Sorry, sorry, sorry samsaf! I am so embarrassed. I meant to type syd and suppose I went braindead. Can I blame it on the fact I haven't had any caffeine yet?

Samsaf Aug 13th, 2005 05:46 AM

That's okay. It definitely put a jolt in my morning (and my husband's!!), so now we don't even need caffeine.

We'll see you on the 17th. Look forward to meeting you!

iceeu2 Aug 13th, 2005 07:40 AM

OWJ...you have hotmail.

Samsaf, I'm still laughing. Hope you were able to pick yourself and your husband up off the floor this morning!

starrsville Aug 13th, 2005 10:24 AM

Yea! atlswan is coming! I got on to top the thread and was thrilled to read so many more have confirmed. I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone. syd, hope baby waits a couple of days. samsaf, how funny! :-)

starrsville Aug 13th, 2005 10:32 AM

bamakelly, hope you drive over for the GTG too.

I just did a search for the corn casserole recipe - going to take it to a party tonight. Decided to cut and paste it here in case others are interested -

Sorry -- that was 30 minutes in above thread. I am queen of typos.

Here's another good recipe for Thanksgiving. My relatives BEG ME to make this and it is always completely gone when I serve it for dinner parties also. It is slightly sweet so it really is delicious.

Corn Casserole

1 can regular corn, drained
1 can creamed corn
1 stick butter
1 box Jiffy corn mix
8 oz sour cream
1 beaten egg

Melt butter. Add corns. Add muffin mix and egg and sour cream, stirring between each.

Mix well. Pour into 2 or 3 quart casserole dish. Bake at 375* for 45 minutes.

seetheworld Aug 13th, 2005 10:54 AM

Thanks so much, starsville! I can't wait to try this recipe. Where's bamakelly been lately anyway?

OldSouthernBelle Aug 13th, 2005 12:16 PM

As long as we're talking recipes, do you have the one MelissaH(?) PorkPakeChops'sister was talking about a couple weeks ago?
Someone said is was really good, but didn't post it in that thread.

Preface: On Sept 19 I'm heading to Amsterdam to spend a week with my daughter before happily escorting her back to the States. She's completing her Peace Corps stint in Kenya (2 1/3 yrs!). I am thrilled. She will be living in a different state than I, but at least on the same continent!

Soooo...if you think you can tolerate how estactic I am going to be, I'm in for the GTG.

OldSouthernBelle Aug 13th, 2005 03:24 PM

sallyjane3: That's wonderful!! Hurrah for people like your daughter! Have a great trip & hope to see you at the GTG!

Belle
