Are You Making Summer Travel Plans?

Are you making summer travels plans? If so, where are you going?

applejaxs Apr 23rd, 2003 09:30 AM

Yes! Off to Germany, France and Italy. First time to visit our family in Elba.

Austin Apr 23rd, 2003 09:31 AM

Yes. Going to visit family in upstate (near Albany/Saratoga) NY and squeezing in 2 or 3 days in NYC. Using the advice from fodors to help with my planning. Very excited.

Suzie Apr 23rd, 2003 09:34 AM

Yes! As we speak! Two consecutive weeks in July. A week in Mammoth and a week in Tahoe. Can't wait!

bennie Apr 23rd, 2003 09:38 AM

Looks like a baseball summer for us. So far we have one trip to Portland, ME to see Portland Sea Dogs minor league ball planned and one trip to Baltimore to see major league ball (Red Sox/Orioles) in the works. Will probably take in a game in Lowell to see the Spinners and a game in Pawtucket to see the PawSox. If we get all this done we will have seen the Red Soxes A, AA and AAA affliates as well as the Red Sox themselves. Can you tell we like baseball???? Can you tell we like the Red Sox????

FainaAgain Apr 23rd, 2003 09:42 AM

I always plan the next vacation on the way home from the prior vacation :) Next on my list: Yosemite and South Tahoe. No set date as it's not hard for me to take a week off work, I'm just waiting for better weather. This year, when I've decided finally to go to Yosemite, the spring is unusually cold. My luck :)

antmaril Apr 23rd, 2003 09:46 AM

Yes, Disney and Universal at the end of June!

J_Correa Apr 23rd, 2003 09:57 AM

Yosemite is next on our list - 4 days in May. In June we are planning a camping vacation, haven't decided where though. Then in September we will be spending a week in Morro Bay and Big Sur.

travellyn Apr 23rd, 2003 10:13 AM

I haven't done much summer planning. We will probably hike for a week on the Colorado Trail, then make a visit to family in Texas. I'm working on a family trip to Hawaii for after Christmas this year.

beachbum Apr 23rd, 2003 10:16 AM

Got a few things in the hopper.
1. A long weekend for just my 10-year-old daughter and me at Six Flags Magic Mountain (anyone out there ridden Scream yet?).
2. The family plus one to Las Vegas for a few days to celebrate son's birthday. Thanks to fodorites for help with these plans.
3. A family week at either Black Butte Ranch in central Oregon, or on San Juan island in Puget Sound.
4. A long weekend anniversary celebration at the Metolius River Resort in Camp Sherman, Oregon.

DeborahB Apr 23rd, 2003 10:19 AM

Yep, leaving Saturday. Originally going to drive like maniacs thru Florida but decided to head to the Virgin Islands instead for some much needed R&R. Some of you may remember my posts. Prices very good right now.

DeborahB Apr 23rd, 2003 10:20 AM

But wait, this Saturday doesn't really count as Summer yet. Oh well, then my answer is no - will have to plan another trip to somewhere when we come back! Thinking about going West next.

GoTravel Apr 23rd, 2003 10:51 AM

My husband and I are going to the keys the first two weeks of September.

Gardyloo Apr 23rd, 2003 11:03 AM

Has the potential of being an expensive summer, but that's why God invented debt, right?

We're off to Anchorage in August for our Goddaughter's wedding, then, because we need a new car (farewell, Old Paint) thinking about capitalizing on Volvo's offer of free plane tix when you pick up a new car at the factory (save $$ off the US sticker too.) It would be a quick trip, but any days in Sweden are better than no days in Sweden.

rebecca Apr 23rd, 2003 11:22 AM

I start planning the next vacation as soon as I get back from the last vacation. Keeps the time moving! :) I will be in Wyoming/Colorado in July- already I'm ready to go!

ilisa Apr 23rd, 2003 11:28 AM

We're off to Disney in June. I'm also going to Phoenix in August for a convention (hey, it it's by myself, it qualifies as a vacation). We are going up to Massachusetts for a wedding in September, so we'll probably tack on a trip to Boston as well. I'm currently thinking about next summer as well!

nina Apr 23rd, 2003 11:42 AM

You know, I want to start making plans for a summer trip (We are going to Napa in the fall), but my husband insists that 3 vacations in the last 4 months is already excessive. I disagree, don't you?

peg Apr 23rd, 2003 11:51 AM

Just booked a trip to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands.

BuzzyJ Apr 23rd, 2003 11:55 AM

The coast of Maine in July...

J_Correa Apr 23rd, 2003 12:06 PM

nina - as long as you've got the time and the money, I don't think there is any such thing as excessive vacationing.

Judyrem Apr 23rd, 2003 12:09 PM

Well, it is summer here in SW Fla, so, I will heading to the French & Italian Riviera in May for 17 days. In July, going on a 7 day cruise to Alaska with a 5 day visit in Vancouver. Early Sept(still summer) heading out to LV, Grand Canyon(yes, it is WORTH it to me), Sedona, Zion & Bryce Canyon for 17 days. Life has been good to me and I am blessed. Judy :-)

rasnes5 Apr 23rd, 2003 12:19 PM

Off to the Keys 1st week of June-never been so hope it's good. We have to wait until August for a hint of summer so 85 degrees is sounding so much better than 60!A few mini-vacations including baseball @ Pacbell Park and a trip up the Sonoma Coast. Maybe Hawaii in September.

Fodorite018 Apr 23rd, 2003 12:43 PM

Plans are already made! A week of hiking around Banff and Lake Louise in Canada in early July. Also a week in August at the Oregon Coast (northern end) as a family reunion of sorts. Also sneaking off for lots of short hiking trips in the PNW.

Ally Apr 23rd, 2003 12:50 PM

Yes! Spending a week on Maui for a family reunion end of May, spending 5 days on Isla Mujeres with my twin sister in early Sept. (she can't go to Maui, bummer) and scouting for a sailing trip in the Carribean for later in the year to swim with wild dolphins....an excellent alternative to those awful 'captive dolphin swims'.

Craig Apr 23rd, 2003 12:54 PM

Yes, to Bali, Indonesia if: (1) There are no threats (bombings, terrorist acts) to tourists between now and then (2) United Airlines stays solvent and (3) SARS does not spread to Bali like it has in China, Hong Kong and Toronto.

uuhhhh Apr 23rd, 2003 01:33 PM

much of my travel is done vicariously through my boss who, all with family of four, just got back from a week at four seasons, hawaii, leaves in june for 10 days at the nui on bora bora, with a 3 night stopover in honolulu on the way home, then again in late july for 9 days around banff and lake louise.

think he's spending more on vacations during the year than i'll make.....wonder if i should ask for a raise.

Wendy Apr 23rd, 2003 01:48 PM

We are heading to Northern Spain this July, we've planned our trip our the running of the bulls!

Also we just got engaged a few weeks ago so we are starting to plan our honeymoon for Sept. Most likely Bora Bora!

ronkala Apr 23rd, 2003 03:38 PM

Off to Shipshewana, IN in June to attend a USS Trathen DD-530 mini reunion. In September we'll go to Orlando for the annual reunion and add extra days to see more of the state.

rjw_lgb_ca Apr 23rd, 2003 03:42 PM

Plans all set to hook up with friends in South Beach July 4th weekend. I'm taking my new sweetie, so we're gonna heat things up even more than they already will be...!

A couple of local trips (San Diego, Palm Springs, Vegas) are also in the plans.

suzanne Apr 23rd, 2003 03:44 PM

I never go anywhere during the summer, unless you include riding my bike to Central Park :). I prefer to travel without the tourist masses, especially those with kids! Plus...everyone leaves the city in the summer. I feel like I have it all to myself. I can't wait!

FreddieD Apr 23rd, 2003 03:47 PM

Sure are! Heading south to Marathon (Grassy Key) for a week of fishing and lounging in the sun with some cold drinks!

theladyjess Apr 23rd, 2003 09:17 PM

Im'off to Texas (without my husband) to visit a friend who I haven't seen in 7 years in August. I'll also work in some local camping trips this summer (Mt. Rainer and Washington coast).
Mom and Dad are off to North Dakota for a reunion in July or August.
My husband and I might go to Vicoria in August for our 3yr anniversary.

bluestructure Apr 25th, 2003 06:37 PM

Going home to Jacksonville, Florida from Baltimore this summer. Then off to Iceland near the end as I usually do late september.

Scarlett Apr 25th, 2003 07:39 PM

bluestructure, my daughter will be doing the opposite-coming to NY from Jax:)
Ladyjess-I remember another thread that you posted where you said that you are handicapped. I am so impressed with your adventurous spirit, you always seem to be going somewhere! That is so great!
We will be going to Philadelphia-May, the Berkshires, Mass-June, staying in NYC in July, Mexico - August...hoping to go to Naples Fl sometime..
and having company in between..it should be a busy and fun summer!
