Anyone seen Elton John in Vegas?
I believe his show is called the Red Piano? Just wondering if anyone has seen it and if it is pretty good? I think it is at Ceasars or MGM? Thinking about getting tickets for January. Any ideas where to get tickets?
Thanks all. Go Sox... |
Hi We saw elton at Caesars on August 2nd. He is at the Celine Dion theater and performs there when she is on vacation. We go to see alot of concerts and I have to say this was one of the best ones my wife and I have ever seen. The props and the pictures while he is singing are unbelievable. If you have any other questions you can email me at [email protected] Hope to hear from you soon. Bruce

I have been to 25 Elton John concerts over the past 31 years and seeing him in Vegas would definitely be the capper. Can you actually buy tickets at the box office or ticketmaster? I've seen them on sale at Ebay for thousands.

A friend of mine was in Vegas last week and saw Elton..she LOVED the show and went on an on about it. I know that she couldn't recommend it highly enough!

We saw him in July at Caesar's. One Sunday in Feb, I read a great review in the LA Times about the Red Piano Show. We decided to go and booked the tickets the very next day (5 months in advance). We paid face value on Ticketmaster (plus whatever BS service fees they charge) -- Center 2nd Orchestra seats for $250/each.
We decided to go on a Sunday night to get the best seats available at that time. There were cheaper seats in the Balconies. We like Elton John, but are not huge fans. We really enjoyed the show. The video going on behind him was beautiful if a little distracting. The visuals during "Daniel" still haunt me whenever I hear that song. I'm not sure if he had a little cold that day, because he wasn't attempting to hit any of his signature high notes. All in all, a great night out! However I wouldn't pay the $) prices that I've heard about on EBay. ((8)) Sox .... =D> ... Believe! |
I've heard it is the best show in Vegas and Elton's best concert. I'd kill to see it.
I mean really, where else could you see Elton John without having to be in an arena with 100,000 other people. |
OK. This I know about. I saw him last Sunday night, Oct. 17. I had fourth row seats for a very close friend's birthday, after we had spent 4 days hiking at Zion and Bryce. We are both late 40s, w/kids, and this was our annual getaway. I spent more than I ever thought I would spend on a concert, but you already know that if you've investigated the possibility of going. We went to the EJ store at Caeser's in the afternoon and bought our stuff for the older of our kids and husbands. The concert was very good. He comes out of the stage on the side opposit his red piano, and takes his time crossing the stage close to the audience, so if you in the lower area, you get an up close view- and he recrossed the stage two other times. The concert is accompanied by a huge movie screen behind the stage that showed footage that I found distracting. I chose instead to focus on his playing and singing. He definitley still has the touch. His piano playing is great, and his voice is still wonderful. He played for two and a half hours, starting w/Bennie and the Jets. He hardly touched on his many hits. Nigel Olson is still w/him, as are a few other band members from the old days. He connected w/the audience. The blow-up inflatable props were, well, Vegas. I could have done without them, but it's part of the glitz I guess. Listen, this is not EJ in Central Park (I'm still waiting for that one!) but it is a great concert if you afford it without blinking. My friend has not stopped emailing me yet (3-4 emails a day) to thank me for taking her for her birthday.

So for those of you in the "know", would going to a Ticketmaster outlet be the best way to get the best seats? I am thinking of taking our two teenage kids with us in February. Is $250 the going rate? Or could we get an upper mezzanine for a little bit less? I am not that into the "effects" more into his music, if you know what I mean.
Anyone know how small the theater is? If it is pretty intimate, then almost any seat would probably be a good one, don't ya think? Thanks all. |
Check, Ceasar's palace web site. You should be able to get information about show and tickets there.

We also saw Elton this past Sunday. For tickets, I went to the Caesars Palace website, clicked on the Red box that says "Red Piano", and it took me to Ticketmaster. We paid $100 apiece for seats in the upper balcony. I think lower balcony was $150 (?) and the better seats were $250. The people in the first 2 rows get to go on stage and dance during one of the songs. My friend and I thought the concert was wonderful, although I did notice Elton had trouble with some of the higher notes. He was very energetic and put on a great performance. I, too, thought the visuals during "Daniel" were haunting. I also thought the video of the Marilyn Monroe lookalike during "Candle in the Wind" was quite good.
emd: Are you sure we went to the same concert? I remember hearing someone in the restroom complaining about the concert only being an hour-and-a-half long. I didn't care; I just thought it was great (although I didn't expect Pee Wee Herman to be a part of it). I went with my friend, who rides a motorized scooter. After the concert, someone came up to her and handed her a pair of drumsticks that were used during the concert. (I'm glad my musician son doesn't know about this.) Heavens: Do go, but don't pay the exhorbitant prices on eBay. I assume you've checked concert dates. I remember seeing that Elton's current run ends Oct. 31. I think Caesars signed him for 75 (?) concerts a year, but I heard that might be expanded due to the popularity of the show. Donna P.S. -- emd: Did you get a show program? I thought $21 was a bit high for a program, so I didn't get one. After the show, I changed my mind. Unfortunately, I was 2 steps outside the entrance, and the security guard would't let me back in. Oh, well. |
Heavens,
You can see seating charts of the theatre either on the Caesar's or Ticketmaster web sites, then you can decide whether or not the more expensive seats are worth it to you. It is a pretty intimate venue, so the views are good from all seats. Forgot about the PeeWee Herman part. I also didn't realize until the closing credits that it was Justin Timberlake playing the "Young Elton" (That's all I'll say for now - don't want to ruin anyone's surprises). We didn't spring for the program either. Anyone else try the $15 glass of "house" wine (which was probably 2-buck-chuck or equivalent) |
EEEk, are you kidding me? $21 for programs, $15 a glass for house wine? EJ, what the heck, money running out on all of your album sales. How do we get around all the extra expenses? Drink water?
Thanks all for the tips. Yes, according to the websites, he has scheduled shows for February. Think we will go for the $100 tickets. Don't like to be a tight wad, but dancing on the stage doesn't really appeal to me. Reminds me of that travel commercial where the guy envisions being part of the zaney show where they all make fun of him. LOL. We'll just spectate... |
If you drink water, make it tap water. I believe the water bottles (small) go for around $8 each. (I thinks it's Ceasars who keeps the money, not Elton, but who knows?)
I do believe that the concert is only 1 1/2 hours long, so as long as you do your eating and drinking before the show, you should be fine. Enjoy! :) |
Heavens, My husband and I were at the concert last Friday night. I can assure you that he did not miss a note during that performance. We sat in the rear orchestra and felt as though our tickets were worth every penny. Just make sure you dont purchase your tickets through a ticket broker or they will be way expensive. Ours were through travel-nice.com and we paid 936 for two tickets. I learned the hard way where to and where not to buy tickets. I thought his band was awesome as well as his lead back up singer. The show is one hour and fifty minutes. On the web site for Caesars it tells about his show and what songs he will be singing. We waited until after the show to have a drink. They do sell wine, bottled water and snacks but they are very expensive. We did have our picture taken before the show by a red piano. The price was 40 dollars, but its a good picture and a nice souvenior. You didnt ask but just in case you were wondering people wore all kinds of goofy clothes. Some people went all out and wore bright colored suits, fancy glasses etc. I saw many feathers and Elton t-shirts. Some were very dressed, some had jeans others had on shorts. Whatever you choose will be fine. We both love Elton so I would recommened sitting on the first floor. It was great being so close, I was enhanced. I loved the video background and did not find them at all distracting. The props were a bit goofy but it is Vegas. E mail me if you have questions. They do search all bags on your way in because you are not permitted to take in any cameras or videos.

One of the times I saw EJ was at the grand opening of the Hard Rock Live in Orlando. I sat in the sixth row and it was just him and his piano. But this time the band is present? Nigel and Davey are there backing him up? This definitely might be worth looking into!

Okay, I'm still haunted by the whole "Daniel" thing.
He tried to explain the meaning of this song, but was very cryptic. He simply said that it was very controversial, but all he had done was rip up the second verse, because it made the song too long. My husband and I just looked at each other, still puzzled, still not knowing who Daniel was and why he was going to Spain. ((?)) The video only made us more confused. In case those of you who saw the show were wondering, I found this article about it. http://experts.about.com/q/493/3403896.htm For those of you who are not interested, I apologize. I have wasted entirely too much time on this subject, but I feel better now. |
Postal, Yes the band is there with him. He intoduces them one at a time and tells the audience a brief biography on each member. Like I stated above I was just as thrilled with the band as I was with Elton.
Daniel was dedicated to Daniel Perl or is it Pearl? Wasnt he the photo journalist who was killed in Iraq? It was very moving. I could have done without Pamela Lee dancing on a pole during The Bitch is Back. Oh well everyone has their own tastes. His final song is Your Song which is very touching. Mary |
I would love to see Elton John in Vegas!
In fact, I may make a special trip when he's there. Off topic, but if you get a chance to see Phil Collins' "Final Farewell Tour" it is outstanding! Pay anything to see it! |
Thanks for the tip on Phil Collins. I love Phil Collins.
Am going to check on the Ceasers website. Thanks all for the tips. For those of you who have seen it, don't you think two teens, 13 and 17 would enjoy the show? Even if they have to drink tap water through it? LOL. |
lvk, THANK YOU for the link! My brother and I used to argue constantly about what Daniel was about!
