Hey, come on fellow native southerners....we've got more than our share of "not-up-to-my-level" natives ourselves. Here in NC they usually live in the "old" country club or the "new" country club or the something & something club. Every darn thing is a club. Kills me.

I personally enjoy transplants from everywhere. Granted, some northerners do come here to escape crime, pollution, congestion, etc. etc. only to run for City Council and vote for new shopping centers and developments, that bring more crime, pollution and congestion. Ah, progress.

Still, I've noticed that many of us are happy to take their money, but we don't wanna hear any of that Yankee gibberish. Yanks have also brought with them motivation for improved schools, the money to help fund many excellent private schools and institutions. They also know how to throw a darned good shindig, fancy if they're ones with the dough and geniune and fun if they're from the Bronx. I love 'em - you never wonder where you stand.

Of course, it'd be nice if they didn't think that we're all a bunch of buck-toothed, illiterate hillbilles or bigoted southern gentry. Stereotypes die hard I guess.

Well, browneyed girl, since this is the first time you have ever posted here, or at least under this screen name, I think you might learn more about some of the posters here by reading more than one post.
I think this is just a case of someone else not getting another persons sense of humor..I would never consider insulting other Fodors posters in such a way (unless they are of course, wearing their tee shirts tucked into their elastic waistband pants) * that was a joke..
so those who took this to heart, I am sorry if I offended, sometimes one has to be a little lighter hearted ..especially in these days when there are so many troublesome and worrisome things going on in the world.

Yes Scarlett you are correct. This is my first post under this name. I know you are generally worshipped here as I've been on this site for many years. I still think the discussion is disappointing and beneath the usual dignity of fodors' posts. Sorry I can't get on board with y'all.
