TTT - even though its a new day,
lets hear from the newbies!
WELCOME!

Neopolitan Sep 23rd, 2006 06:51 AM

I'm curious if you are only looking for those who have never posted here before, or if you are also including all those regular posters who register new names, usually for the purpose of making rude comments. I've been seeing an awful lot of new names, but it seems apparent from their comments that many of them have been around here for quite a while.

paula1470 Sep 23rd, 2006 07:10 AM

Neo-I noticed that also especially in the last couple of days.

JAGIRL Sep 23rd, 2006 07:24 AM

I'm not new....just usually post on the caribbean board, but.....I had to comment:
JAGIRL, you are a hoot and thanks for keeping the caribbean board laughing!:-d

heymo Sep 23rd, 2006 08:21 AM

Not new to Fodors, just seem to mostly post on the Africa board lately. Going to Egypt in two weeks. But I need to start looking for a bed & breakfast on the Big Island in February, so I have started monitoring the U.S. posts. Looks like quite a tight-knit bunch, can newbies bust in?

jetset1 Sep 23rd, 2006 08:26 AM

heymo, nothing tight here at all.. just a bunch of threads unraveling most of the time.. feel free to post and matnikstym, who lives on the B.I., is a great source of help for your information.. J.

heymo Sep 23rd, 2006 09:06 AM

jetset- Thanks for the welcome mat! I really enjoy these boards, most people we know are not travelers and constantly are questioning why we travel so much...it's nice to talk to fellow wanderers! I'll be sure to look for posts from maynikstym about the B.I. So where's your next jaunt?

jetset1 Sep 23rd, 2006 10:36 AM

heymo~ not terrible exciting.. our turkey pilgrimage to eastern Washington this fall.

However, I may do a runaway mom sort of weekend in a couple weeks. Now that it's fall, I need a desert heat fix and some rock climbing before spring:)

iamq Sep 23rd, 2006 12:47 PM

How about asking if there are any old posters. That seems more appropriate these days.

-Bill

jetset1 Sep 23rd, 2006 12:53 PM

tsk tsk iamq~ I never aged after 28, so there!!

iamq Sep 23rd, 2006 01:07 PM

I'm not referring to the chronological age of posters.

-Bill

sistahlou Sep 23rd, 2006 01:19 PM

My oh My Mammy, I been postin' since back in the day when Elvira was more than a 6 letter word and mole people ruled the subways! Ahhh the good old days when trolls were trolls and no one hogtied the boards......It was a kinder gentler time.......ok it wasn't but it sure was fun and informative. Chat, chat, chat.....

jetset1 Sep 23rd, 2006 04:18 PM

I like seeing new people encouraged to participate, especially on weekends.

There are interesing posts from a variety of locations, near and far..regular posters seem to have their favorites, like FFRR and such, and are still there((Y))

I'm not sure why age is necessary, or complaints.. really the post title is self explanatory, but the venting might discourage new posters, which is a shame.. peace, J.((F))

OldSouthernBelle Sep 23rd, 2006 05:54 PM

iamq: Here's one oldsouthernbelle! And soon to be older! I may not like the wrinkles, but I'm acutally proud of my age!
I looked like a youngster most of my life and now at least people take me seriously!

iamq Sep 23rd, 2006 09:14 PM

OSB, I am NOT talking about chronological age. I don't care how old or young anyone is!

"Old posters" is meant as in the reverse of new. Like, I wish some of the missing old timer fodorites (regardless of age) would come back.

LoveItaly Sep 23rd, 2006 09:56 PM

Hi Bill, so do I! Fodor's is not the same is it? But I guess nothing remains the same unfortunatly.

tlf18 Sep 23rd, 2006 10:47 PM

came here last year and got good info for a california trip.

went to greece this summer, but didn't really check anything here, as we were staying with family in a village....

from near Baltimore area.

Bunnicula Sep 24th, 2006 06:18 AM

I am new... so new that I don't really know what a Fodorite is, or a GTG...lol. Is this for people who travel alot? I don't travel much due to money (lack thereof) but I love to travel when I can. Do I still qualify?

Bunnicula Sep 24th, 2006 06:20 AM

Shoot--- I forgot the main stuff. I live in Louisville, Ky. I just got back from Knoxville, and (someday) want to go to Boston/Fall River Mass.

jeena Sep 24th, 2006 06:55 AM

Hi everyone,

I am new, I just logged in today on 9/24/2006 because I was looking for fall foliage info. Next month I am going to Woodstock, NY (Catskill area) and the surrounding towns of Hyde Park, New Paltz, Rhinebeck, etc. to enjoy the fall foliage, antique shops, Mohonk Mountain House, and eat in the Culinary Institute in Hyde Park.
I am planning to go to Charleston, S.C. and Lake County, Fl. in November to see friends and relatives if everything works out all right and I can make the trip.
I have been a member of tripadvisor.com for a long time and decided to try another site, I'm glad i found this one.

Neopolitan Sep 24th, 2006 07:23 AM

Welcome, jeena. I hope you like giving trip reports. I'm looking forward to hearing all about those places.

kopp Sep 24th, 2006 07:29 AM

Well, howdy Bunnicula! So glad to meet you! <):)

You are hereby granted the title of "Fodorite"! Just having posted on this site gives you this honor!

GTG = get together (lunch, dinner, movies, whatever)! Many times you'll see a GTG planned for a particular area of the world, Paris, Houston, New Jersey - wherever. How 'bout starting one in Kentucky? I'm sure we've got plenty of folks hungry to meet you!

And a fine welcome to you, too, jeena! Glad to have you on board!

jeena Sep 24th, 2006 08:48 AM

Thanks for the nice welcomes, and yes I love to write about places I have visited, and will cerainly keep you posted! I am looking forward to the NY fall foliage trip upstate next month, I understand you can see six states from the top of Mohonk Mountain if the weather is clear. I hope the foliage cooperates this year. I was going to stay in a bed and breakfast but decided against it because you need to reserve in advance, and if you need to cancel (I probably would if the foliage doesn't pan out), you could be stuck paying for the entire reservation or part of it, so i decided to stay in a hotel which allows cancellations on the day of arrival.

heymo Sep 24th, 2006 09:04 AM

Jeena, your trip sounds wonderful. We will miss most of the fall foliage this year (we'll be in Egypt) but I have always wanted to go to New England and the like for the fall. We have pretty foliage here in Michigan, but it's nice to see other areas as well. Please post a trip report when you return...I'd love to hear all about it!

OldSouthernBelle Sep 25th, 2006 07:35 AM

iamq: I knew what you meant...that's just my style of humor...always taking a different view of things meant to be otherwise.

iamq Sep 25th, 2006 09:20 AM

OSB.
I am so relieved to hear that! :))

missjanna Sep 27th, 2006 10:45 PM

Am I considered new if I just don't post as often as I used to?

AnnMarie_C Sep 28th, 2006 04:09 AM

missjanna, I believe that makes you like new! ;-)

travel_addict Sep 28th, 2006 04:15 AM

Am I new since I haven't posted since last night? ;)

AnnMarie_C Sep 28th, 2006 04:16 AM

t_a, you are new and improved! :-D

angethereader Sep 28th, 2006 04:59 AM

I'm kind of new to the U.S. board. I started on the Aisa board about a year ago for out trip to Japan.
I wandered over here some time in spring. I have been made to feel very welcome over here.
Thanks!

Does a trip to Minneapolis for Thanksgiving count?

hootiehoo01 Sep 28th, 2006 11:59 PM

hi kids, i'm new :) i kind of fell upon this website while planning a trip to Hawaii in nov. there is so much great info/tips on here. I live in Cali, and have only been all over this state, Az, NY,FL and mexico...but only TJ when i lived in san diego so that doesn't really count.
still planning the hawaii trip, so i'm sure you'll be hearing lots more from me!!

stevebarr Oct 1st, 2006 07:45 AM

I've just been on this site for a few days now. I actually found it quite by accident, while doing an internet search on some things I wanted to learn about here in North Carolina.

Some of the posts caught my attention, and I couldn't stop reading or resist the urge to answer a few of the topics I saw. Since I play in the mountains constantly, I figured I could suggest a few great places to visit for anyone headed in this direction while traveling.

But, I've got to admit, leahinsc has great knowledge of this area and lots of good avice to offer. All I can say is that each of her posts I've read are right on the money. My expertise lies more in outdoor activities, hiking, driving the Blue Ridge Parkway, etc.

There's so much to do and see here that I often say that I live in a postcard. I can't possibly see it all in one lifetime, but I'd love suggestions from some of the other Fodorites who live in the area and know of great places to visit.

jetset1 Oct 1st, 2006 08:38 AM

stevebarr~ your post struck a cord with me. I was born and raised mostly in Alaska, but have yet to cover so many areas and activities..

I have reviewed old posts and found ideas for so much outside my area, but I know there are the cruise experts, motorhomes, fishing, etc., that advise others on things I have not done or have limited second hand knowledge of...

The last new experience I had as a resident was a biking trip in a part of the state popular with many between Anchorage and Fairbanks.

I find the other posts most helpful with restaurant recommendations vs. books or online reviews.. nothing is better than someone who has been there recently I think.

Thanks for your post. It's always nice to see someone new participate. J.
