Another "Princeville Seafood Buffet" question

My husband LOVES seafood and is dying to go to the Friday night buffet.
I don't eat seafood at all. (I know, what a shame :) ).
Are there other things on the buffet besides seafood and/or will I be able to order off of a menu when he goes to the buffet?

Thanks. :D

margot55 Apr 23rd, 2005 02:18 PM

MANY other offerings on the buffet - there is a meat carving station as well as some hot chicken and pasta dishes, tons of salads, too. Desserts are fabulous! I guarantee you'll BOTH enjoy it!

iceeu2 Apr 23rd, 2005 02:45 PM

Hey, margot, I posted last night about the Princeville buffets, and meant to ask....how far in advance should you make reservations?

I have also read that people start lining up early even tho they have reservations. What's a good time? And do you want an indoor or outdoor table if you have the choice?

Not meaning to hijack your thread MaiTaiMary, but you may want to know these things also, right?

MTM, will you be doing a trip report before May 14th?

Hey, and don't forget, when you are staying down in Kapaa...be sure to ask for lots of mints at Kauai Pasta!!:D:)((r))

iamq Apr 23rd, 2005 04:11 PM

i2,
You definetly want to sit outside on the terrace for the buffet. They open at 5:30. I made a reservation for 5:30. We got there at 5:00. We were the first ones in line. I REALLY wanted my choice of tables. We got a great table by the little water feature ledge and ate, drank and gazed until the sun set around 8:30ish (July). We're gonna do the Sunday brunch this year!

iceeu2 Apr 23rd, 2005 04:31 PM

billy, how far in advance did you make reservations?

Because you know what???? We leave in 21 more days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wauhob3 Apr 23rd, 2005 04:34 PM

A couple of weeks ago they had a NY strip on the carving station. There's always the desserts too.... Make your reservations for 5:30 PM for a sunset view on the terrace and get there a little early. We had great seats.

iamq Apr 23rd, 2005 04:43 PM

i2,
I was wondering when that was coming! I guess right about now you'd say that pre-trip excitment is better than sex?
I made reservations a week before.
-Bill

iceeu2 Apr 23rd, 2005 05:29 PM

Now bill, you don't have to get testy with me!!!:)

You knew it would come soon. I can't let a day go by without making sure you are paying attention.:D

Btw, much better..just like the cake! I wish you were going to be there when we were.

iceeu2 Apr 23rd, 2005 05:32 PM

And, one more thing...do you valet park or is there free parking in the area?

The reason I ask is cause the last time we gandered at The Princeville, I think we parked ourselves...

MaiTaiMary Apr 23rd, 2005 05:46 PM

I just don't get it. :( I've called twice now and both times I've been told that they don't take reservations for the Friday buffet or the Sunday buffet unless you have 5 people or more. I'm not going to be too happy if I find out they DO and we have to wait. Bummer.

iceeu2~ Nope. I'll be gone May 3 - May 18. Trip report to follow that weekend. :D

iamq Apr 23rd, 2005 10:53 PM

i2,
We self parked in a lot just before the hotel to the right along the cliff. I imagine you could valet park also.

I wish I was going to be at the GTG too. :(( >:-) X( :-d

iceeu2 Apr 24th, 2005 04:28 AM

you know what MTM, I read a post recently where someone had tried to make reservations (maybe it was yours) and they were told they don't take reservations.

margot55 Apr 24th, 2005 04:49 AM

As of last month, they took reservations - we made ours for 5:30 and like others, got in line at 5PM. You'll be assured of a great outside table that way. We made our reservation 6 days before and had no problem at all. You can either valet park or park in the guest lot. Let us know if the reservations policy has changed - seems to me it would only make for mayhem if they didn't accept them anymore...

wauhob3 Apr 24th, 2005 08:07 AM

I went to the buffet on April 8th and made reservations for two the week before. We too self parked in the guest lot although they do have valet parking available but it's only a short walk. The buffet cost $49.50 for adults and $3.50 per year old for 12 and under. Be there a little early to get terrace seating even in the rain (it's covered) the view was beautiful.

Budman Apr 24th, 2005 08:17 AM

WOW!!! $50 for a buffet?? I don't think I could eat that much food.

Where's a good place for a roadside picnic with some BBQ shrimp, BBQ, and a bottle of wine sitting there watching the sunset with the one you love. ((b))

iceeu2 Apr 24th, 2005 10:22 AM

Budman, The Islander on May 27th would be the place you describe!!!!!!!!!

And, as much as you have saved with car rentals and interisland air fare, and such..get up off yourself and treat the lady to a $50 buffet!

Budman Apr 24th, 2005 10:47 AM

The 27th is the only Friday we'll be on Kauai and it's our GTG. We'll have more fun than a $50 buffet.

I'll treat her to Roy's. Do they have a Roy Rogers on Kauai? ((a)) ((b))

iceeu2 Apr 24th, 2005 05:50 PM

Bman, you can take her up there for Sunday brunch or an afternoon tea!!

AuntieM says they have high tea on certain days.

katolb90 Apr 25th, 2005 06:18 AM

Is this the Cafe Hanalei buffet? No one has mentioned the name.

MaiTaiMary Apr 25th, 2005 02:58 PM

Yes, this is the Cafe Hanalei buffet.

I called *again* and this time I got a reservation for 5:30pm for the Friday night buffet. But they said for the Sunday brunch, they only accept reservations for 5 or more.

iamq Apr 25th, 2005 07:54 PM

MTM,
Great. Show up around 5 and you should get a great table on the terrace. Have a fantastic trip.
-Bill

katolb90 Apr 26th, 2005 06:16 AM

I'm getting hungry. What time does the seafood buffet start on Friday and what times does the Sunday Brunch start?

iceeu2 Apr 27th, 2005 04:40 AM

MTM, one of the concierges at The Princeville emailed me a copy of the seafood buffet offerings..you should have no trouble finding something you will enjoy.

katolb90, Friday Seafood Buffet begins at 5:30 pm...Sunday Brunch begins at 10 am..no charge for valet or self parking...

MaiTaiMary Apr 27th, 2005 07:22 AM

iceeu2~ Is there a way to copy and paste it?? :D I'd love to see it! :D
Pretty pleeze?

Thank you!!!!!! Yum!!! :D

pspercy Apr 27th, 2005 11:52 AM

Budman, there's a Roy's in Poipu. Not eaten there myself, too expensive !!

http://www.roysrestaurant.com/docs/index.html

amz Apr 27th, 2005 11:58 AM

When we were there last october, i was really one of the best buffets i've been to. The regular menu didn't disappoint us, either. however..it is really expensive. Oh and also..don't take it the wrong way, as the place has jaw-dropping views that you might enjoy being outside to experience..but if you do i suggest putting bug spray on..especially on the legs..the mt. makana sunset mosquitos like the feast, too i think. enjoy your trip.

katolb90 Apr 28th, 2005 10:41 AM

Thanks for the extensive menu. Yummy, delicious. What is the attire? I would like to stop in on my way back from the beaches of Hanalei on my way back to the Marriott.

margot55 Apr 28th, 2005 10:54 AM

Attire for Cafe Hanalei's seafood buffet is pretty parallel to the general "hang loose" philosophy in Hawaii! I mostly see people wearing alohawear attire, shorts are perfectly acceptable. (Probably wise to make sure your waistband is elastic, though!) ;)

iceeu2 Apr 28th, 2005 10:59 AM

katolb90, I'm guessing the attire is resort wear. Don't know that for a fact tho. If you are staying at the Marriott in Lihue, they have a sensational seafood buffet on Fridays and Saturdays, and also a really good Sunday brunch. Think it even includes champagne. Two years ago, the Saturday night (prime rib, I think) buffet was $35pp. No view, but great aloha spirit by the wait staff. The food was excellent, as well.

If that is where you are staying, then you will probably get a mahalo card for 10% off.

Budman Apr 28th, 2005 11:02 AM

pspercy, I was think Roy Rogers roast beef/fast food, but I was only kidding. ((a))

Thanks for the link to Roy's. They have a nice prix fixe menu for $33. I just might check it out. ((b))

iceeu2 Apr 28th, 2005 11:15 AM

B'man....I knew you were talking about roast beef, but didn't want to make any more smart remarks!!

You have any amex rewards points that need using up? You can use them for a Roy's gift certificate.

I thought they only had the prix fixe menu on the mainland. I hope they have it in Hawaii. If you miss eating at Roy's on Kauai where there is no view, you can always eat there when you are on Oahu. There are 2 locations and I understand both have really nice views.

Countdown>>>>>drumroll.........16 days!

Budman Apr 28th, 2005 11:38 AM

Oh, maybe I'll save it for Oahu. Thanks.

27 and a wake up. ((r)) ((b))

marshall531 Apr 28th, 2005 12:03 PM

Hi We ate at the princeville buffet on Friday March 11th. I made the reservation in late january. we made a 5:30 reservation and arrived about 10 minutes late. There were no lines at that time and we had the first table on the outside all by ourselves. It was fantastic. The view was amazing so if you make your reservation way in advance the table is reserved for you. It is not a first come first served basis but the tables are assigned at the time you make your reservation. I wouldn't show up too late though since they may give your table away. Have a great time. I also do not eat seafood and had more than enough to eat. Enjoy

iceeu2 Apr 28th, 2005 02:05 PM

marsh, I have made my reservation 25 days in advance..I was told to be there about 10 mins early in order to try and get terrace seating.

Did you use some bug stuff? Mosquitos love me. Should we perhaps ask to sit inside?

iamq Apr 28th, 2005 02:52 PM

i2,
Don't you dare sit inside!

Slather some of Kal's personality O-) on your legs (see recent insect repellent post) and soak up the views!

-Bill

iceeu2 Apr 28th, 2005 03:06 PM

Bill, I love you...you are just too too cute...if I sit inside, you will never EVER know! Did you see my countdown????

iamq Apr 28th, 2005 05:33 PM

i2,
Countdown? What countdown?
