The most charitable thing I can find to say about the Weavers is that loss of their dad/husband may have damaged them more than we know. They are so insular, defensive, and scared, they act out aggressively and use their Christian faith to reassure themselves that they remain "above" other people. Pop psych, I know, but that's what I see.

My impressions. The two Paolo boys are a couple of pencil-armed worms. Haven't they ever lifted a weight in their lives? The Bransen father is a big sissy and whiner. He is a drag on his daughters. The Weavers are PWT with a veneer of piety. The four broads on the Godlewski team shreik too much. Sorry about the Gaghans. I guess I will root for the Linz's from here on out.

I don't know if the Gaghans are Christians, but I think they are the ones who showed us what Christ's love, respect, and patience looks like.

Marilyn Nov 3rd, 2005 09:09 AM

Shane, PWT? (It's not in the online slang dictionary, my reference bible.)

Sunshinesue Nov 3rd, 2005 09:35 AM

Jocelyn, I think you are right. The Gaghans answered the WWJD question much more accurately than the Weavers!

I'm guessing Shane meant Poor White T(synonym for garbage). Just a guess....

gualalalisa Nov 3rd, 2005 09:45 AM

Marilyn, I'm guessing "Poor White Trash" which isn't very nice of Shane though I tend to think of the Weavers as just scary, ignorant, not-nice people.

I definitely did not think the Gaghan children were spoiled. I had tears in my eyes when the little girl was trying to hold back her tears when they were eliminated.

We are not seeing all that is going on with the Weaver's. I've never seen a team be so disliked by all the others. The Weaver's definitely do not have what it takes to make it to the final leg of the race.

Marilyn Nov 3rd, 2005 11:32 AM

Well, I'd have to say it's a contest for Most Disliked By The Other Teams between the Weavers and Romber.

Shane Nov 3rd, 2005 12:32 PM

I've got to say that several teams in Amazing Race history annoyed me more than the Weavers or Rob and Amba and I've only begun watching at season six. Jonathan & Victoria, Adam & Rebecca and Lori & Bolo in Amazing Race-6 and Lynn & Alex in Amazing Race-7 were about as annoying.

Marilyn Nov 3rd, 2005 12:37 PM

Note I'm talking about being universally disliked by the other teams, not about my personal feelings. (Don't get me started...)

On a slightly different note, anyone know how long a yield is? Or is it different each time? I was so rooting for Mom Gaghan to find that bean! It also looks like the editors are letting us see more of the "nasties" then they did the first few weeks.

It has also been fun watching the old AR's on GSN. I didn't watch the first few but am getting caught up.

Keith Nov 3rd, 2005 08:02 PM

Sunshinesue, it seems that many people ask WWJD, then do the oposite.

I'm still having difficulty contemplating a possible Weaver win. I totally admire the Gaghan parents. We in this house were at first making fun of the Gaghan's for being sooo Leave it To Beaverish, but after awhile we became ashamed of ourselves.

If the AR people can't find a way to put the Gaghan's BACK in the race, they should at least allow any Weaver win to be conditional--every family member would be tied to a seat, forced to watch each episode again, and required to write an essay entitled, "How the Gaghan Family Demonstrated Christian Behavior Without Hypocrisy."

Like Brendandg, we can't believe we grew to be so fond of the Paoli family. I guess we just started tuning out the dysfunctional elements. I heard the father (what a hard-working, gutsy guy!) say twice that the friendships they made on the trip, not only the family ties, were so wonderful. Supposedly, all the families became really tight. When the Schroeders lost everything in Katrina, the Rogers family rescued them and all the other families contributed.

Except, of course, the Weavers.
