And there are a lot of differences among Christians, and Jews, and Muslims and Buddhists, just to name a few. That's one of the reasons there was a Reformation because of some basic belief differences. Evangelicals of many religions pray aloud.

Please don;t put words in my mouth.

I have nothing against prayer. I have nothing against prayer out loud. My complaint is with what they pray for.

Well, the whole thing about asking Jesus or God to help doesn't bother me a bit. You see, growing up in an Italian family with a whole bunch of aunts & uncles, there was a lot of that. Also a lot of pleas to St. Anthony. Which is probably who Ms. Weaver really should be asking for guidance. But,all of my aunts, it seemed, were just FOREVER asking Jesus or God or some saint (aloud) for some help with this or that or the other. Is it a cultural thing?

The underdog Paolo family did itself proud last night. They bonded a little bit also

Bubba2 Oct 26th, 2005 03:41 PM

I'm guessing that next week they may go to Costa Rica.

MikePin....don't be too surpised by the Gaghan family and their willingness to bungee jump with the kids. They are a typical family from my area (they live in the same town I do)....kids are groomed to succeed, and receive constant adulation/encouragement.... I thought it was interesting that they seemed to be the only team with a defined strategy..only need to beat one team to stay in the game...

I find the Paolo's hilariously entertaining....and I give the big props to them last night for doing that bungee jump.

But I'm wondering what's going on with the health of the dad with the three girls? He doesn't look to overweight, but I swear he seems he might have a heart attack during every episode. I hope he is just out of shape!

I love this thread. Laughed till I cried picturing Mother Theresa and Ghandi, loved seeing the Canal since we just came off a cruise through there last month. Sick of the Weaver's, can't stand the Paolo's, love the cute kids family, she is adorable and never loses her cool. Glad they are out of the US. My son had actually downloaded the race application b/c he wanted us to apply, however, we probably would have looked like the Paolo's yelling at each other, so we decided to stay home.

Just saw the tape tonight. Finally, they are in a foreign country! And, I think the family style is just fine. Different, but also entertaining.

Walt may be out of shape, but his daughters are pretty fit. And they are very detail-oriented. That is why they seem to usually be in one of the top teams.

As for the Weavers, why would God help them find a clue box, etc. and not help other teams? When different teams pray, which side does He choose? Was He a White Sox fan tonight and not an Astros? How trite and trivializing!

And, yes, it does look like they go to Costa Rica next. Can't wait! Now this is what the amazing race is all about--travel to other countries! (and the reason we post about it)

Keith Oct 27th, 2005 04:23 AM

Walt should have been ready for the race. In one of the earlier legs, the family said that he had hounded the daughters to get in shape before the race.

Did anyone catch the exact quote one of the Bransen daughters said to the Linz brothers when they finished up their joint detour? It was something like "We're going to have Lindsay make out with one of you."

LOL!

Correction. It was one of the Godlewski sisters saying it about Tricia.

I thought it was really dumb to offer a prize of a vacation to Panama. Da, been there done that?

J_Correa Oct 27th, 2005 12:17 PM

I actually think the prize for a trip to Panama was cool - true they have already been there, but how much can a person really see running from one clue box to another?

Keith Oct 27th, 2005 12:42 PM

I agree!

It would kill me to be going places like that and have to race along instead of stopping.

According to several links on "Television Without Pity," (Hi, Marilyn!) the Weavers are disliked by the other teams because they are cold and unfriendly during the down time.

Ma Weaver's invoking of the Lord at every turn doesn't help nor does her complete ignorance of geography, i.e. "Is Pennsylvaina a state?" and "Lake Ponchatrain (sp.?) - it's one of the Great Lakes" probably the all-time worst in the history of AR!

offlady Oct 28th, 2005 11:56 AM

In the beginning, I thought the Paolo family was a mess and wouldn't stand a chance. I kept hoping they'd get eliminated. Now I think I'm growing fond of them. What's happening????

Marilyn Oct 28th, 2005 12:01 PM

offlady, what's happening is that you are losing your mind. These people may "love" each other, but they are HORRIBLE to each other, especially Mom and The Son. Maybe it will improve when he gets a bit older, but would you want your daughter to marry a guy who treats his mother like that?

(Hi Lisa, I finally got registered on the TWoP forums, so watch out, snarkiness ahead!)

offlady Oct 28th, 2005 12:09 PM

Yes, I've been known to lose my mind at times.

Our kids will sit and watch Amazing Race with us--one of the few shows we sit and watch together as a family. Watching the Paolos is actually a lesson in social behavior for them. The kids are amazed (and a little shocked at times) that there are families out in the world that interact like that. For that same reason, we will watch Nanny 911 and Wife Swap. I think they appreciate me a bit more after watching some of these shows--my ulterior motive!

crefloors Oct 29th, 2005 07:31 AM

I can't wait for the Paolo family to be eliminated. With MY luck they'll win. I think they are ugly and disfunctional, none of them have any self-esteem, and the old "we insult each other, are cruel to each other, have no respect for each other, but we REALLY love each other" is just crap. I can't stand them.
