Amazing Race 10/25
 

At someone's suggestion, I am starting a new thread for the Amazing Race, Family Edition. Looking forward to seeing what dynamics come up tonight.

From the previews I've seen the last few days, looks like the families are at the Panama Canal tonight.

Yeah, I am looking forward to seeing what challenges they face outside of the US. Who do you think will come in first tonight?

Well I like the Branson family. the father actually LISTENS to his daughters.

I am also warming up to the Weaver family. They really held up well last week in spite of the task at the race track. The way they managed that moved them up quite a bit in my esteem.

I think the family with the two little kids is really at a disadvantage on some of the tasks. On the race track bicycle, the daughter's feet didn't even reach the peddles!

Yeah, I think they will be eliminated tonight. That is, if this is an elimination leg.

I suggested a new thread for each episode. I hate to wade thru the many pages when it's just one long one, especially with the title &quot;AR <b>Starts</b> Tonight&quot; no longer relevant and a dam slow dialup.

I am so disappointed in this season!

The US is great and everything but why won't they do a couple of tasks abroad?

I think the producers did the whole season here in the US 'cause they didn't want to pay for 4 tickets per team to travel around the world..

I still think they should have done at least one exciting international trip to Australia or something..

It was better tonite , finally an exciting destination !! Great scenery .

Did you watch tonight's episode? They were in Panama, a foreign country. Will be interesting to see where they head to next week.

I laughed out loud when the Paolo family boy screamed like a little girl on the way down during the bungie jump. Mom loved being needed for that.

The Amazing Race proves once again that all the Spanish the average American knows - was learned from Speedy Gonzalez.

The Paolo mom is pitiful. She's treated like crap and begs for &quot;scraps&quot; from her kids. It was more intersting tonight and I hope they at least stay in South America or Mexico maybe for awhile if not a further destination.

SFImporter, LOL. We were cringing at the attempted Spanish.

We've gotten fond of that precocious little girl and can't wait to hear what will come out of her mouth next, so we were glad they weren't eliminated. I also liked the Goodlookskis (team name courtesy of Television Without Pity) for their sense of humor when they thought they might be eliminated.

I think I can now keep most of the teams straight in my mind: the Goodlookskis, the Dysfunctional Family From Hell, the Kute Kids family, the Please God Help Us Find the Clue Box family, the Three Dumb Brothers and a Sister family, and the Where's Dad family (which TWoP calls the Tanya's because they think the girls all look like Tanya Harding). Did I leave anyone out? Eliminate 'em!

Last nite's episode was definitely much better, and I'll watch it again next week; last week I was ready to bail on AM.

I was hoping it would be an elimination pit stop to get rid of that group of noisy sisters.

I think the other teams are giving the Weavers (widow team) a bad rap. I'm not so fond of the constant call for the Lord's help, but it's not enough for me to want them out of the race. I think they're working well as a team.

I used to love this show. With this new &quot;family&quot; twist, I gave it a chance, it failed miserably and I stopped watching. Hopefully, whoever had this idea is no longer employed at the network.

Maybe you are right, and maybe it just found a new audience.

I'm not at all surprised that the Paolo's came in 1st.

The race was much better last night. All the yelling of &quot;Arriba! Arriba!&quot;, well, you just knew you weren't in Kansas anymore. How about the local woman who got one of the teams (I think it was the Godlewski's aka the Godawfulski's (TM TWoP))to take her to work in the guise of guiding them.

As for the other teams' dislike of the Weavers, I have to believe that there is a lot that is not being shown. I think they keep completely to themselves and go out of their way to not talk to the others.

It's just a guess, but I think that they (Weavers) aren't liked because they are verbal about kinds of behavior that they don't agree with- and that others think are &quot;normal&quot; behavior.

Like last night when Mrs. Weaver told the other team's chiders that it wasn't kosher to yell derisions- that instead they should be encouraging.

Old prophets used to be stoned for the same thing. And modern sensibilities don't respond well either to criticism, deserved or not.

Thought everyone was so bored with the show that no one had posted.

Wish you hadn't started multiple threads. I'm afraid someone will post to the original thread and we will be dealing with multiples.

Mrs. Paolo has children that are just like her. They will not be winners, even if they win the race. Bet there are parents in New Jersey watching the show and warning their daughters never to go out with those boys:-)

I still have mixed feelings about the Weavers, particularly their praying to get there first - that God should favor them above the other families.

Thought the Weaver girl throwning out works like &quot;burrito&quot; to their cab driver was insensitive. I wouldn't care to be driving a group from another company and having them throwing out words like &quot;McDonalds&quot; and laughing at me.

It IS getting more interesting, isn't it? The previews show the teams in a rain forest next week. Brazil, maybe?

I would have liked to see ALL of the teams have to do the bungee jumping. Always fun to watch people go through that.

I don't think anyone is posting to the original thread any more. I haven't seen it go ttt.

We switched over to watch the World Series (rooting for WS J5)so we didn't see the end. I couldn't believe the Paolo's bungee jumped. I thought for sure that the mom would be the one to balk at that but got to give her credit. So who got eliminated?

Yes, Mrs Weaver's all about encouragement,especially when she's yelling at the Linz family's boat driver to go slowly. The word is &quot;hypocritical&quot; and may be why she and her family are not liked.We see very little of what goes on between the teams so we don't have much way of knowing why the Weavers are so disliked.

I only saw parts for the same reason, but did see the end. It was a non-elimination round but the God------ski girls came in last and put on all their clothes and acted very silly.

Paolo's won a vacation at a resort right on the Panama Canal.

Thanks for the update JJ5 - did you stay up all night? Loved seeing the Sox come back but yo know as a Red Sox fan I can't stand Carl Everett. What do White Sox fans think of him?

It was pretty revolting to see (hear) some of those family members saying things like &quot;burrito&quot; and &quot;andale, andale&quot; to the cab drivers. It certainly portrayed them as they are -- incredibly ignorant!

I thought it was hysterical that the Paolo son that treats his mother like a liability screamed like a girl on the bungee jump.

I am enjoying the Gaghan family a little more - they are always encouraging to each other - and those kids are always so calm when everyone else around them is in a frenzy.

I was surprised that the Gaghan family was going to go for the bungee jump with two young children. Bravo for those parents.

bennnie, don't want to hyjack the thread- but I fell asleep from the 6th to the 12th innings. Shame on me- too nerve racking and I was too tired.

Carl E. doesn't have a lot of close following fan-wise or media-wise, Uribe has much more exposure. Uribe is a fundamentalist Christian and causes some vibes with his pronouncements. My youngest son never has liked Everett. He's very streaky and fails to hit for long periods of time, IMHO. And I don't know anything about his history. I am a big Podsednik fan- even when he is hurt.

But I did watch about 2/3rds of the Amazing Race because I knew it was going to be a LLLLLOOOONNGG game and I thought that Oswalt would be more dominating than he was.

Re: the Weavers being not well-liked -- It sure would get on my nerves to hear someone constantly praying to God to help them find the next clue or whatever. I think it's offensive and demeaning to religion (and I'm not a religious person).

Those Gaghan kids are absolutely FEARLESS! When they were going for the Fast Forward, did you hear the little girl say, I wanna go first?

Although I don't feel that way about prayer at all, it is not meant to be offensive to others (the vocal prayer for small things). Many religions, and not just Christianity, take very seriously vocal prayer. Be it 7 times a day or for the morning sun or for the next minute- this is just a practice of many cultures. It would not be so offensive, I don't think, if it was a chanting monk.

It does grate to those who carry strong secular and humanistic belief systems, but I don't think it is meant to be offensive and it also does not have a sense (an interpretation) that they are trying to get GOD on THEIR side, as against the other teams' side. That's how people here are reading this. It's not interpreted or perceived that way by the constant initiater of vocal prayer (Mrs.Weaver) in most fundamentalism- just a close connection to God in everyday life detail.

Mother Theresa did this constantly over things like an uncracked cup, as did St. Therese Liseux, as did Ghandi. But the criticisms and judgments would not be applied to them for the same thing, IMHO.

Wouldn't it be nice if we were open-minded about more than just the more obvious biases in our own culture.

But don't chanting monks do that as part of their religious practice? They don't chant about every little thing in their lives, or do they? (I honestly don't know.)

I think you are right. Most people are interpreting as you describe, even though it might not be meant that way.

I do love the mental image of Mother Theresa and Ghandi on The Amazing Race! (Same team, do you think?):-D

Last night was only marginally better then previous episodes. I sure hope the producers realize they made a big mistake this season. As for the family with the kids, I can't stand them and want them out of there -- now!! As for the rest of the contestants it makes one yearn for some of the &quot;teams&quot; from past shows. I've even taken to watching AR #1 on the Game Channel :-)

What a mental image! I'm picturing Mother Theresa and Ghandi in the roles of Mirna and Charla from a few seasons back.

There was only one time I heard anything like that, Keith, although I must say, I haven't watched every minute. But what I hear is &quot;Let me find this clue&quot; or &quot;make us run faster&quot; or &quot;let us find the sign&quot; etc.

And I have been around lots and lots of various levels of this, and the negative sense on the other side just isn't there as it's being taken 95% of the time. Of course, there are times when religious fanaticism does become delusional about &quot;sides&quot;. But just don't take it as a personal affront. I see many religious under vows that do these particulars- and it isn't meant to offend.

The Amish tend to do it quite a bit. Lots of Eastern religions do this with not just words but with prayer wheels etc.

Ok, I'm one of the people who've commented on the vocal prayers. I think my standard response is &quot;God gave you a brain, please use it.&quot; In a good number of religions (Bronxzilla seems to be an expert on this ) silent prayer is the way to go.

Mom Paola is a trooper, she'll do whatever is necessary to win without complaining, unlike the son. Love the fact one other team told the son to show mom some respect. Also interesting that those 2 had to bungee together. I thoght they would have been separated.
