Airports Near Pittsburgh
Are there airports close to Pittsburgh, PA that could serve as an alternative to PIT? Close to me is within an hour of Pittsburgh. Thanks!

Uhhhh..didn;t we go over this once before? I think Morgantown, WV, which is 61 miles from Pittsburgh AND actually has scheduled air service would be one possibility.

MGW is about 61 miles from Pittsburgh. The other Allegheny County airport-- Allegheny County (AGC)-- doesn't seem to have sceduled airline service. MGW, for example, can only be reached on US Airways Express (Beech B1900 turboprops)-- from PIT. Northwest Airlines offers turboprop service to and from DTW, but that's the only airline. If you're trying to fly cross-country, the non-stops dry up, you end up with two and three intermediate stops, and the fare ends up (in my experience) more expensive than the majors and their main competitor cross-country, JetBlue. The airport has always been half-empty when I've flown there. Southwest and Air Tran are probably using PIT as a stopping point to their east coast airports. By the way, I priced a trip from SNA to PHL (Xmas is coming!) on Southwest, and it's far, far more expensive than the majors-- and far less convenient. I can fly American from three airports within 30 minutes of my house and it's at least $150 less on a round-trip basis. |
In my defense as being branded as some sort of scam artist for having two threads on this topic (didn't realize it was such a grave faux pas!). Look at the topic line. This is actually not the second thread but the first one I typed. I didn't put Pittsburgh PENNSYLVANIA in the topic line and I didn't want to get a buch of responses naming all the Pittsburghs in the United States as I have often gotten this sort of response when I forget to include the state. There's really nothing shady or dubious about it. And my inquiry was merely about pricing and nothing more. I've sorry if I've made anyone feel like they've been decieved in some way.
