Airline carry-on restrictions - deoderant?
May I put roll-on deoderant in my carry on baggage? Would it go in the clear one-quart baggie with liquids? thank you.
Roll-on deoderant contains a liquid; therefore, it must be placed in the one-quart baggie and it must be less than 3oz.
Excuse me, that should be "3 oz. or less".
Or you can get a stick and put in your carry-on bag.
FainaAgain - At our airport the TSA considers "stick" deordorant a "gel" and therefore if you put it in your carry-on it must conform to the 3oz. or less rule.
In the last 20 trips I've taken with stick deodorant it's never gone in the baggie, and never been questioned, so I agree with Faina.
Clear gel deodorants as well as roll-on are supposed to go in the 1qt clear baggie. |
Buy a stick that specifically says "solid" on the package. If the TSA bonehead says anything, point it out that:
SOLID, by definition, is NOT LIQUID |
unless that solid happens to be H2O.
I think it depends on the TSA agent. I had one give me a hard time about my inhaler that is powder. The agent said it had to go in a quart size bag and be pulled at security. Now it's powder and liquids and...what next???
The "rules" are arbitrarily enforced. I carried on a normal deoderant (over 3 oz) literally over 50 times, then, once, in Denver a few weeks ago, it was confiscated.
I didn't bother to argue with them. And I ignore the clear baggie rule, and only once have I been forced to put my items in one, and that was in Louisville late last year. |
Thank you all for your prompt replies. I think we'll just toss our deoderants in checked baggage and stop at a pharmacy if our luggage is delayed!
I also never have problems with solid deodorants.
I hope I am not behind you in line, Gekko! |
