No travelinandgolfin I would never presume to make it illegal to ban private business owners from advocating for their beliefs. I do believe in separation of church and state however. If my children were to get testamints after their public school lunch, I would strenuously object. I don't think we should have under God in our Pledge of Allegiance. I don't think we should have Under God on our currency. I will defend to the end your right to your religious beliefs or any other beliefs you might have. Please don't impose them on me.

Kal - somehow I don't remember having needed an answer as to why your gym shorts were riding up on you! :-]

You wanted feedback. /:)

"I will defend to the end your right to your religious beliefs or any other beliefs you might have. Please don't impose them on me." You said it beautifully, shaz60. Not sure I agree with you on the Pledge and currency as they don't advocate a particular "God". I know it gets murky because of atheists, etc. So I haven't quite figured that one out. But I know I agree very strongly with you on the above quote.

Somebody earlier referred indirectly to the Oriental Trading Company catalogue, home of all sorts of odd religious themed trinkets. Well, they claim to have Testamints! Perhaps they're out of stock but you can at least see what they look like in person:

Apparently the inventor (?) neglected to trademark them, as there seems to be another type that comes in a tube like Velamints.

Margot, please read my post again. I never said anyone said it was illegal.

What I did say was whether some would WANT it to be illegal. I think many would.

travelinandgolfin Mar 11th, 2005 04:59 PM

shaz, would you object if such impositions, even as mild as passing out mints in a privately owned establishment, or maybe a Jesus fish on a business card, was made illegal? Would you mind such a law?

Ooops, so sorry, maybe it was that gigantic link I posted. Those long things don't mess up the formatting on my computer and I forgot. (No, not even when somebody posts a thread title with no spaces.)

ttt
I was feeling nostalgic for the pre-lounge days when the travel forums were filled with glorious banter and this was one of the best from that time.

Then of course there is the ode...

Billaaaaaayyyyy...
I think the lovely M55 is trying to get her LPGA card and may be taking on Lorena Ochoa as we speak.

Rumor has it the Prince course underwent some major "landscaping changes" in Feb. :-X

We had a similar interesting experience. Stayed at a great B&B and loved it. As we were checking out, we grabbed one of their business cards. Under the name and address of the B&B, the card said "Where Christ is King." It didn't offend me, but my husband and I talked about it as soon as we got in the car. We thought it was pretty rare for a business to state something like that on their card, but maybe not. And we wondered if it would make people of other religious faiths uncomfortable.

Consider the setting and missionary history....small island of Kauai lists 36 churches! In the big picture the mint is minor.
