Nantucket!
But, if you really want a city, try Montreal or Quebec. NYC is a great place to pick a neigborhood and get to know it by walking around.

Just for the record, I said "city of size" regarding New Orleans. The other places mentioned are fairly small in comparison.

San Francisco! Very charming, cosmopolitan city with lots to see and do. My daughter and I broke it up into areas - one day Alcatraz and Fisherman's Wharf, one day Golden Gate Park and Haight Ashbury area, etc. Trolleys and cable cars - great if you can catch them and they're not full and pass you by, and those hills are killers for walking, but a great, great city to shop and sightsee. Neptunes restaurant at Fishermans' Wharf is great, with great views and great food! We also went on a tour over the GG bridge to a forest - a jeep tour, and the guy was very nice and accommodating. Good luck!

Sandra,

I live in NYC and besides here the best walking city is Toronto, Ontario. You do not need a car at all. You walk to a lot of different neighborhoods[too many to list], plus their public transportation system is excellent.

If you must stay in the US, definitely walk through Seattle. You can walk to a ferry that takes you across Puget Sound.

Whatever you decide to do - have a great time.

Denver is a great walking city, int he downtown area. I've been several times and nver rented a car or took a cab. They've got a great slection of restaurants, clubs and shops you can walk to all over downtown.

Definitely Chicago. I was there for a week and walked all over. For some of the city's attractions, you can take CTA bus or metro - both were great and cheap. A great town!

Charleston, SC
