Thanks for posting all the great info....I just assumed all makeup must go in the bag.

Rethinking it I am sure she can make it fine. She does have sensitive skin so the makeup base will have to come from home.

Plan is to make the boys carry any extra.

I like to print a copy of the TSA rules from their website the night before travel (so it has the date stamp on the bottom of the page) as I have encountered numerous TSA agents who are not familiar with their own agency's rules. The fact that contact lens solution/eye drops can be carried in greater quantities if declared seems to give rise to the greatest confusion. Printing the rules is not perfect as there are inconsistencies even on the TSA webpage, but it sometimes helps.

If you use expensive skin care brands, you may be able to find sample sizes on eBay, to avoid having to decant pricey products.

Also, bug spray and sunscreen now come in packet/wipe form - I buy those so as not to have to include those products in my baggie. I use lots of products and can do a 2 week trip with just carryon.

Packing for 1 week with carryon should be a cinch - unless it is the dead of winter :) Rember, everyone is entitled to a suitcase and a personal item - purse, daypack, laptop bag, etc. I generally take a suitcase and a daypack and stick my purse into the daypack for the flight so I don't have to take credit for my purse as my personal item.

For general packing - I always make sure everything I pack goes with most everything else so that I can mix and match. I also take things that I can wear multiple times - esspecially pants, shorts, and skirts. Tops are smaller, so I bring more. I wear my bulkiest shoes on the plane and pack the smaller ones.

When I pack my suitcase, I roll the clothing so that everything fits together well. I put undies in a ziplock bag and squeeze the air out. Same with socks. Saves room that way and keeps thing neat. It also makes it nicer if your bag gets searched by TSA - I've had panties fall onto the floor during that process and decided never again - LOL.

Packing up today and my hubby and I are in disagreement about the deodorant and toothpaste. DO those items have to go in the quart ziplock?

If they are liquid, cream, or gel. Yes.

If they are solid, no.

Toothpaste is classified as a liquid. Must be 3oz or less (the size of the tube, not just how much is left), and it must go in 1qt bag or in checked luggage.
