Fodor's is, IMO, a stronger and more valuable place in part because we are all free to provide the advice or comments that we think best.

If only that were true. I have quit posting on certain forums because of the bullying from certain regulars. So I guess back to the original question I might participate more fully if I didn't have to put up with that.

Avoiding failed posting of long and/or thoughtful posts including trip reports: I write mine in a word processor then cupy/paste int Fodors.

As to avoiding bullying or other offensive posts: One thread I was following started to be polluted by an aggressively negative individual. When he turned antisemitic, I triangled . The offensive posts were removed from the thread. If you feel bullied, triangle the offending post. Better to lose the offender than the victim.

Only to be met with something like, “Your reply has not posted because the token has expired. Please hit the “back” button & re-load.” Or some such.

Nothing worked. I can’t be bothered trying to recall & re-type.

I'm sorry you had that issue! Sounds like... you may have tried to post a very large image file? That's when the "token" error tends to crop up?

We can (and probably will, eventually) just incorporate a Google search into the site's search bar... but I don't find it terribly useful since it will not just search Fodors, it's just like doing a google saerch on your own. If you want google results, it's better just to open a new tab and do your google search "+fodors."

Could you make a link on Fodors Search that automatically opened the new window with a Google search already set up with the requested search term that uses the Fodors only code?

Bokhara2 Oct 17th, 2019 12:03 PM

Thanks, AJ & iBobbi.

i only post on my iPad or iPhone - unless I’m doing something I might want to keep, like a trip report.
I might use “Notes” in future, thanks for the tip.

iBobbi - no attachments at all. It’s a mystery.

Maybe we could, but the chances it would get used are very slim. So probably not. BUT you can save such a Google search as a bookmark in your browser!

Chrome, Google is my home page. I thought you might like to make the Fodors site easier to use. Not expecting something to be used is not a barrier. Related topics anyone?

I do see that now but only in "full site" mode.
I don't see those options in the mobile version. Which is what I pretty much always use. Maybe I'm missing something.

Yes the mobile site and the full site behave differently. But the message subscription settings work for both.

By "advice or comments", I did NOT mean personal attacks. As I went on to say, I think it would be best if we are kind. Unfortunately, there are people in this world who enjoy internet bullying, and I doubt there's any way to prevent it on Fodor's. But we have a triangle, and we have moderators who respond. So suze, please use the triangle if you think bullying is occurring -- whether its bullying of you or bullying of others.

With Adsense you can create

Custom search engines
One of the options is to limit it to certain sites. In this case you could select Fodors.com. Google handles all the search functions. Takes no time at all to implement if you're already using Adsense

But am I correct in that in mobile, you can't access all the setting features as you can in full?

We've just joined and it seems a great forum!

The mobile interface is a pared-down version of the full, due to screen size constraints. They are going to be a little different.

kja~ There are many ways to put someone down that are not actually triangle worthy. Constant belittling, questioning, and making fun of what a person posts can be hurtful and discourage participation, but is not technically against the rules.

True enough. When I see comments like that, I think they speak about the character of the person who posted them. JMO.

I wish there was a "like" button for this comment. It's so true!
