But don't you have to pay a fee to be a member of Costco? (Since Costo is a Finnish design company I assume you meant Costco.) Just as you have to be an AAA Plus member (as I learned up-thread) - and then the photos are free.

Sorry about misspelling . Yes , one must have a regular general membership in COSTCO for the 4.99 pictures. A yearly membership in Costco is certainly well worth the membership fee considering the savings one can get on just so many items of purchase. If you are not a member you certainly should look into it.

One stop shop - get the forms, picture taken and file the package - at the Post Office.

I recently renewed my passport and used a 10 year old passport picture. So your picture could last for 20 years. LOL I had some left over from previous passport application.

I know this is old...

You can take the photo yourself. There is even a tool on the passport website to help you size it properly:

Elberko, I do that and then just drop in 6 copies and print on a 4x6. 6 photos for about $0.25. :)

Easy, right? Then you have a few extras in case you need photos for a transit pass somewhere.

JaneB, thanks for that. I was just wondering if I could use some "rejects" from ten years ago ~ they don't look so bad now!

Except that is against the rules on the passport form. You can take your own picture as long as you format it right, but it must be within 6 months old to reflect your current appearance per the State Department.

Well, I just did it. I guess nobody in charge looks at them. I sent my old passport in with my application and the same picture as on my old passport. The new passport arrived back in several weeks and the old passport came back several weeks later with holes punched in it. The reason I did not get a new picture was because I had a very black eye from a head injury. I thought I would just try to use my old one And it worked.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I just mailed my renewal application today. The total cost for DW and I to get our new passport photos was mainly time. I downloaded an app for my iphone called ID PhotoPrint. Then we used it to take the photos using the auto-sizing template built in to it and saved the photos to the phone. Then I emailed them to the photoprocessor (in my case Walmart.com) and they were ready two hours later. Total cost for both sets was $0.41. Picked them up on the way home from work, then to the bank for two checks to the State Department. The pics came in 4x6 prints with six 2x2 photos on them.

About using an old photo:

The last two times I've entered the UK they had automatic immigration kiosks, where you swiped your chipped passport and which compared your appearance with your passport photo. If this becomes common, having an old photo could be a nuisance.

Fortunately, my old photo looks as much like me today as it did 10 years ago.
