Passport picture cost
Was surprised to learn that the cost of passport pictures was much higher at Kinkos/FedEx than at CVS or Wallgreens.
They are free if you're a AAA member.
How much are we talking?
I think I paid ~$12 at one of those Mom & Pop UPS stores. |
It's not like the picture is taken frequently.
Who gives a rats pattutie? |
I'm still curious how much money we're talking here????
Goodness everyone, it's just an observation. I didn't detect any frustration in the comment.
Anyhoo - I've stopped using Kinkos/FedEx for our small business cuz they're so expensive...as if they think they're the only printer/copier in town. They're not. |
It would be a more helpful 'observation' if they mentioned the cost at each place.
I think they're still $5 at Costco. I just took and printed my own at home last time.
My observation is that if you can't afford the picture and the cost of the Passport, you surely can't afford to travel internationally. When you divide the cost by the 10 years they are good for, you should think they are a bargain.

"My observation is that if you can't afford the picture and the cost of the Passport, you surely can't afford to travel internationally. When you divide the cost by the 10 years they are good for, you should think they are a bargain".
You seem to have forgotten that passport photos are also used to obtain visas to other countries. So chances are if you travel internationally, you'll be purchasing more than just the one in your passport. I think the main issue of the OP's post was to point out that some places charge as much as 3x what others do. If you can't print your own and you're not a AAA member, 4 pictures at Costco will cost you $5. |
Free where if you are a AAA member??
At a AAA office.
OK Thursdaysd, doesn't seem possible , but I will definitely check it out ! FREE! Thought is that nothing is Free anymore!
It isn't strictly free, it's covered by your membership fee, like maps and guide books and trip planning. There are a number of discounts available to members as well. I've occasionally used the ones available for hotels.
I think Impaid $7.99 at CVS. Used them for Visa applications.
Passport photos are NOT free at AAA if you have basic membership, only at the upgraded levels.
you cant afford to travel
$3, $5, $10 for passport/visa photos - what difference does it make? It's a small price to pay for something that you'll need once every 10 years - OK maybe more than once if you need a couple of "visa photos" (which by the way, I've needed only once in over 30 years of international travel). Gee, a person is planning an international trip that will cost $1,000's and they worry about a few dollars for a photo!
Katzgar is right, that person can't afford to travel. |
"which by the way, I've needed only once in over 30 years of international travel"
You must not be traveling to very interesting places. I've needed a bunch. I guess you never heard the cliche "take care of the pennies, and the pounds will take care of themselves". It's a cliche for a reason, and it works just as well for cents and dollars. |
OK , a buck in my pocket is better than a buck in another's pocket. Doesn't matter if trip will cost 10K 0r 20K.
The cheapest place for Passport or Visa photos is in COSTO...period. We went today and paid $4.99 for 4 pictures of me and another $4.99 for 4 pics of my wife. No one can beat that. We are going to Kenya and Tanzania and I know they will not accept home-made pictures. |
