Nonperishable items in luggage
Have you ever packed non perishable food items in carry on luggage?
Granola bars, cereal that type of thing. |
It is not a problem to pack granola bars or cereal in your carry on luggage.
|
Solid items are fine. But check the TSA listings, you might disagree about what is solid. Granola, cereal, nuts, no problem.
|
Oh, thanks for posting. I thought so and I will check TSA listing just so I will be properly informed.
Suze~ I started just to ask you. My kids are thinking about going on quick trip to ST John and $ is tight for them. Breakfast/snack items would save a little. |
Well thank you, I'm flattered ;-)
It's OK. For some food items you need to check local customs regulations, say for bringing in things like fresh fruit, seeds, meats, etc. But granola bars, nuts, microwave popcorn, oatmeal packets, cereal, etc. are fine. You do need to be aware of the normal "gel/liquid" ban that could be imposed, so something like peanut butter might not make it thru. |
I always read you posts on travels. They are interesting and helpful.
Not thinking any gels that could be a real problem if leaked or got squished. Oatmeal good idea! |
I have and it's never been an issue. Might have some problems with liquids as others have noted.

hi joethebear~~
Will they have a way to make hot water? A kettle or coffeepot or microwave? If yes, soup packets are another handy thing to take along. Teabags, instant coffee, powdered creamer, etc. Not to pack of course, but if they do have a coffeemaker in their room you can make hard boiled eggs in one of those. (i'm full of cheap travel tips -lol!) suze |
yeah will have kitchen. I will suggest take tuna packets pick up eggs.
|
Tuna is good - but be sure they check that the packets fit in the 3oz 'liquid' limit.
