I meant to add, that the top strap on the leg safe goes above the calf muscle, so is probably what keeps it from sliding down.

I have accessed my money belt while out shopping... I'm not sure why this is a 'no-no'...
Mine has 2 pockets, and I do keep a days worth of cash in the front pocket and the rest of my cash/passport in the back pocket.

I also always keep a small amount of cash and 1 credit card in a secret compartment in my bag in my hotel room, as well as copies of my passport/visa in every bag I have.

Never EVER access a money belt in public. That totally defeats the purpose. A money belt is not a replacement for your wallet. Consider it a 'body safe' where you conceal the valuables (spare CC/ATM cards, excess money, maybe passport, etc). No one should know you have it and no one should see it.

If you use a money belt/security pouch, you carry what you'll need that day in the normal way (wallet/purse/whatever and only the 'secret stuff' in the money belt. If you miscalculate and need something out of the money belt . . . don't whip it out in public. Go to a restroom or somewhere private and take out what you need.

True story. . . . I was walking through one of the higher end salons in Harrods and a big haired blond ( guessing Texan ) was looking at a Stella Mc or some such - and there around her waist like an obi was her money belt. For god and everyone to see :D

Thursdaysd, the neck wallet is made of silk and quite comfortable. One does NOT wear it merely around the neck, the savvy user puts it around the neck and under an arm (under the shirt, of course). They are very lightweight and I don't even feel mine when I'm wearing it.

Yes, but a belt is one of those things I (female) don't take. Haven't worn one in years, in fact. Plus the thing you link to has two compartments, making it thicker than it needs to be. The Lewis N Clark belt I use comes with one or two compartments and I make sure to buy the single.

And I personally would never opt for a neck wallet -- too easy for someone to grab the strap from around the neck, IMO -- and I'm certainly not going to wear a turtleneck every day! JMO.

That is not how a money belt is used (or at least it isn't supposed to be used that way) -- one never <B>EVER</B> accesses it in public so no reason to 'look bad'. It is not meant to hold the cash/credit card(s) you plan on using that day. It is a 'body safe' where one keeps their documents/extra cash/additional credit-ATM card(s) hidden/secured.

If one mis-calculates and does need to access it while out and about -- they do it in private like in a restroom or dressing room. But if you know what you are doing during the day you usually don't need to ever do that.

dijonesaz, all your trip valuables are in one place. Convenient for thieves. If your travel wallet/passport holder is stolen, your whole trip is trashed. Or at least significantly inconvenienced.

I use a wallet/pouch made of leather. It's about 5x7. Cash and passports fit in it. It has a zipper and a loop. The loop is to be looped around your belt and the wallet goes inside the front of your pants. I defy any type of thief to reach into your crotch. Well, I guess it depends on his level of desperation. I admit to extract it and pay your bills is a little theatrical. I've had it for years so don't remember exactly where I purchased it. Company named Magellan maybe?

Apropos of above wallet w/loop for belt I googled wallet w/ belt loop and there are plenty of them out in travelaccessoryland.

And you wear any and all of these things while going through security????

Good question, JaneB-No. I deploy the wallet when I am about to leave the safety of my hotel room to venture out onto the dangerous streets.

JaneB - old style metal detector, yes. TSA's nude nuke you scanners, no. But that is a very, very small part of a trip. Worry more about being out on the streets.

I never wear a money belt or security pouch in the airport or on board the plane. Need my documents/passport too often. I use it when wandering around my destination cities.

Actually, janisj, wearing it ON the plane could be a good idea. Remember, if there's an emergency evacuation you aren't supposed to take anything with you. I remember the US passengers from the Costa Concordia had a lot of trouble because all their papers and cards went down with the ship and the US embssy was apparently useless.
