Favorite budget travel items?

What is your favorite budget travel items?

AliceWilliams Jul 10th, 2017 01:22 AM

item*

janisj Jul 10th, 2017 05:53 AM

The question really doesn't make sense. What is a 'budget' travel item?

RoamsAround Jul 10th, 2017 07:08 AM

Yeah, oddly worded question - are you asking about a low cost item that you might take with you when you travel or an item (in any price range) that you would take with you on a trip when you have a very limited budget?????

AliceWilliams Jul 10th, 2017 08:13 AM

I'm asking about a low cost item that you might take with you when you travel

suze Jul 10th, 2017 09:23 AM

foam earplugs
plastic hangers
universal sink stopper

kja Jul 10th, 2017 04:26 PM

Are you, perhaps, conducting some kind of research? If you are, you might want to tell us your purpose.

kirtisharma Jul 10th, 2017 08:37 PM

You are asking the wrong question you can plan a budget friendly trip like some places where travelling is not much expensive, food, accommodation are budget friendly. For example if you are from USA and want to Travel in India that would be your budget friendly trip because 1 US dollar is equal to 65 Indian rupees. Keep only necessary items during trip to prevent hassle, clothes, light weight shoes, accessories that you can wear with multiple dresses, gadgets etc.

janisj Jul 11th, 2017 04:52 AM

>>Are you, perhaps, conducting some kind of research? If you are, you might want to tell us your purpose.<<

You have started a lot of 'What is your favorite . . ." threads without any indication you are going anywhere. So are you perhaps picking our brains for a blog or article or something? Not wrong but it is better to be up front about it.

thursdaysd Jul 11th, 2017 06:57 AM

Agree with the above. I have zero interest in contributing to your article or blog. BTW, I also have zero interest in articles of the "top ten" variety, it's just lazy writing - not even really writing.

suze Jul 11th, 2017 08:00 AM

If you don't like the question, you don't have to post, people.

suze Jul 11th, 2017 08:02 AM

mini-flashlight
corkscrew
rubber door stop

thursdaysd Jul 11th, 2017 09:12 AM

"People" are interested in what the OP is up to. Appears, at least to me, to be a freeloader, a species I dislike.

suze Jul 11th, 2017 09:27 AM

So don't participate. You don't need to be rude about it.

thursdaysd Jul 11th, 2017 09:52 AM

Freeloading is rude (actually also theft, if the freeloader profits from it). I'd like to know whether that is what is happening. If you don't like my posts you don't have to read them....

suze Jul 11th, 2017 10:02 AM

Well since you haven't contributed anything that the OP can "profit from" you don't need to worry about that.

kja Jul 11th, 2017 06:12 PM

I don’t like contributing, for free, to somebody’s blog (or whatever) if that person doesn't add value to Fodor’s. Just my preference – I’m not saying what anyone else should do. And BTW, my aversion includes the blogs of people who plan their trips based on extensive input from Fodorites, post their trip reports as personal blogs, and “contribute” to Fodor’s ONLY to provide links to their blogs.
JMO.

Of course, some people who have blogs are also frequent and thoughtful contributors to Fodor’s. To me, that’s something very different, andI have no problem with that approach.

In any case, I’m willing to entertain the slim possibility that the OP had a different purpose and to give him/her the chance to explain.

fuzzbucket Jul 13th, 2017 08:47 AM

Ziploc bags.

suze Jul 13th, 2017 08:56 AM

sarong/pareo

thursdaysd Jul 13th, 2017 10:04 AM

@suze - guess what, it's not all about me. I don't like to other people exploited either, even you.

suze Jul 13th, 2017 10:15 AM

What is the problem?

Why do you think I am being "exploited"?

suze Jul 13th, 2017 10:23 AM

Take a look at the posting history of the OP. There's nothing there to warrant your suspicions and accusations.

Macross Jul 13th, 2017 04:40 PM

Fuzzbucket, love my ziplock bags.

thursdaysd Jul 13th, 2017 04:55 PM

I did look at the history. So, apparently did janisj, and possibly kja. Still awaiting a response from the OP...

kja Jul 13th, 2017 05:06 PM

I definitely looked at the OP's posting history. Lots of questions, no clear purpose, made me wonder....

suze Jul 14th, 2017 07:55 AM

If you don't approve of this poster, I don't understand why you all keep posting to their thread.

AliceWilliams Jul 16th, 2017 11:47 AM

I don't have a blog or anything similar!I don't think that assumption is very fair.
I just post whatever question I have because I'm always forgetful when it comes to packing and never up to date when it comes to newer gadgets that are budget friendly and such. I just noticed how random my questions tend to be and how they're MOSTLY very general/miserable attempts to start fun threads like my stamps post.
Sorry?
But that doesn't mean I'm using anyone's opinion to gain anything other than advice for myself.
Thanks to everyone who actually answered my question.

thursdaysd Jul 16th, 2017 12:51 PM

Thanks for replying.

If you have trouble remembering what to pack, the answer is very simple. Write a master list and save it on your computer. I have a packing list and a things to do before a trip list, and I update them for each trip.

Since I travel light, I don't want any new gadgets to take up space. Clothes, electronics and pharma. That's pretty much it.

Humility is good :)

We won't doubt you again. ask away . . .

kja Jul 16th, 2017 01:52 PM

Thanks for your response.
A packing list would be a great idea.

AliceWilliams Jul 16th, 2017 02:15 PM

Thanks for the tip guys :) -about keeping a list do you keep one for traveling during the winter and another for traveling during the summer or do you just put everything on one list?

thursdaysd Jul 16th, 2017 02:18 PM

I have one master list. Since I try not to travel in particularly hot weather or particularly cold weather the clothes part is pretty generic.

The online versions of my lists are a bit out of date (I no longer travel with a backpack!), but start here and then read the following three posts, the links are at the top of the page:

https://mytimetotravel.wordpress.com...take-part-one/

kja Jul 16th, 2017 02:32 PM

BTW, my favorite budget items are ziplock bags, a cheap washcloth (many places outside the US don't provide them, but I want one!), and a small sheet of duct tape.

crellston Jul 17th, 2017 01:29 AM

OK, here is a link to my packing list https://accidentalnomads.com/2016/05...ck-like-a-man/

It covers pretty much all seasons and terrains from beaches and 30c to high altitude and -20c

thursdaysd Jul 17th, 2017 03:38 AM

Actually,if you want to pack light, as you should, you might be better off asking what NOT to take, lol. Take everything everyone suggests, and you may overpack.

For instance, binoculars, unless you are a bird watcher. I have taken them, for stained glass, but they are heavy and I usually forget I have them. A long zoom lens on a point and shoot is probably just as good.

NewbE Jul 17th, 2017 06:19 AM

<Humility is good :)>
Considering the source, this mad me LOLOLOL!

suze Jul 17th, 2017 08:45 AM

Thanks for the reply - although you should not have to justify your perfectly legitimate questions asked on a travel forum imo!

I don't pack from a list myself. I start packing at least a month in advance and gather things in a separate area (hang on the back of a door, stack in the guest room, whatever). I just keep revisiting it and adding and subtracting as I think of things.

Categories being:
clothing
shoes/sandals/sneakers
undies/bras/socks/sleepwear
toiletries/cosmetics/first aid
gadgets like flashlight, corkscrew, etc.

aliced Aug 10th, 2017 04:33 AM

I have a master packing list with every category and separate breakdown for carryon stuff; then I have much more specific Europe and California lists (where we go most frequently). Also reminders what to do at home: send itinerary to kids, give neighbors key, call bank, etc. Works for us.

My favorite budget item for travelling: a small highlighter

Comes in handy to mark up printed location (if not using smart phone or nav); hotels/tourist info hand you local map and first thing I do is mark our hotel location at front desk and place we're trying to find and go from there.

Suze, I'm with you -- if you dont like a posting, SKIP it! Lots of people didnt like that Fodors actually awarded me a guidebook when I posted my "tip" few years ago, as they didnt feel it was warranted. They need to go volunteer or something and please dont be at my hotel, flight, etc.
