I bought this one and it worked for me. Two trips last year, US to Vietnam and Kenya. Way better than nothing!

My Husband and I bought the one linked in the first post, after my daughter and son-in-law used one on a flight from NYC to New Zealand. They loved them.My husband likes it, me not so much, but that's just cause I don't sleep much on a flight anyway,

I bought the turtle pillow and never wound up taking it on my trip. It seemed akward to pack and I tried it at home and it was not helping the hanging head thing like it's supposed to. I find the soft u pillow that clips together so you can hang it from your suitcase the easiest to bring along. And at the price of 15 dollars, if I lose it, I lose it.

Hey, kureiff: did you ever get the footrest thing you linked above? Flying transatlantic economy in a couple weeks &, having been spoiled by business class for the last few years, I'm not looking forward to it.

DH and I both have those Turtl neck pillows. We bought them for transatlantic flights but haven’t needed them yet because we always end up springing for first class lie flat seats. It doesn’t make sense for us to go on a vacation and be sleep deprived and miserable for the first day or two. We don’t travel that much now and are older, tireder—and fussier, TBH.

(Were I able to afford first class seats, I assure you that I would have no qualms about springing for them -- especially because I completely agree with your comments about being sleep-deprived and miserable for the first day or two. But we gotta do what we gotta do.)

I think a couple airlines have banned those sling type foot rests because it bothers the people sitting in front of you. That inflatable one kybourbon posted might work.

I'm not tall (5'6" to you non metrics) and I just can't imagine having the leg room for either the sling thing or the blow up footrest in cattle class.

Most people use U-shaped pillows the wrong way round - they have the opening at the front, when it should be at the back.

I used to put my under seat personal item on the tray with coat/sweater or similar over the thin cushion they issued, to soften it a bit and slept with my head on that if I was unlucky enough not to get a window seat.

I know. We're flying from SF; we've got 38" leg room (Virgin Atlantic) and I'm pretty anxious about it.

It's probably a pipe dream to think there's any way I'm going to make an 11-hour flight in economy comfortable.

The 11 hour flight to and from SF was one of the reasons we decided we didn't want to fly any more, even after forking out a bit extra for premium cattle class on the flight home.
You just have to get through it as best you can and know you have a fabulous trip planned at the end of it. 38" is generous, must be premium cattle class, normal cattle class is only 31-32". That is real agony. If you really have 38" then one of those footrests should fit.

Yes, it’s 38” in Virgin Atlantic “premium economy” — for which we’re paying almost as much as we paid for business class, same trip, in September 2019. (And this time I actually booked more than 3 months ahead of flying, which I never bothered to do in the past.)

I tried to use a U-shaped pillow, but it makes me feel hot. I still use it occasionally, but mine is inflatable, an old... I think Eagle Creek.

I like a travel pillow with hood and pocket as it is comfortable, convenient, and blocked light and noise. The pocket made it easy to store my phone and earplugs, while packing it in my carry-on was not an issue. The only con was the price, but it was worth it for the added features.
