I always lose travel pillows. Usually just buy a cheap one before I leave and then lose it before the return flight.

Thanks for this thread. I've had that travel pillow bookmarked for a while, just haven't pushed the buy button yet. I thought at first it looked like it would be smaller than my regular travel pillow and would fit better in the suitcase but maybe not.
I've lost a few travel pillows too migb. My favorite decided to stay at CDG airport in Paris. I think it was last seen in a bathroom there. I don't blame it for wanting to live in France though. Lol. |
I bought it. I found it again recently. Haven't used it yet. I wasn't impressed when I opened the package.
I bought my first u-shaped cushy pillow at an airport a couple of weeks ago for a cross-country flight. I liked that one. Will only take it for long flights. Maybe I find this one again and try it out. It seemed very "hard". |
59.00 no way. I have bought so many and they end up lost on a plane or somewhere along the way. I did have a memory foam neck pillow but so hot.
|
I bought one for trip to se Asia. It didn’t work as advertised. Have since misplaced it. |
Since we usually traveled in March, my travel pillow was my raincoat!
I had a smallish U-shaped one but lost it. |

It's really amazing how quickly they disappear in the airport. I need a better way to carry them in the airport when they aren't packed in my carryons. Something I can secure to the handles, either a built in strap or a separate stuff bag.
|
Very smart, starrs!
mlgb, I had mine strapped to the outside of my rolling case. I think it got nabbed. |
I just got this and used it on a 10-hour red eye. It’s the best one I’ve ever had...like really comfortable. also got this one and it was awful https://www.johnlewis.com/go-travel-...w-grey/p593591 |
And I want one of those foot rest things that kureiff’s sister has. |

I have the Kuhi travel pillow and really like it.
I read a TON of reviews of various pillows before I bought it. I even take it on long car rides. I never liked the inflatable ones I had. How do you hook up that footrest thing on a plane? I can't tell from the pics. |

I’ll only take an inflatable pillow, which narrows the field. If I were willing to deal with a carry-on pillow, the ones you guys have recommended look fine to me. But I don’t think I’d like something that wraps around me like a muffler. I get claustrophobic enough on planes.
|
I can't imagine that foot hammock wouldn't bother the person in the seat in front of you. One of the videos shows the person kind of swinging their legs in it. I think that would have some sort of impact of the seat in front.

Some years ago I bought a two-in-one down travel pillow from The Company Store. It was quite expensive but now seems to be on sale. It is a very small rectangle which comes in handy in various ways on the plane. When you get to your hotel or whatever, you unzip the pillow and remove the interior, which is a down filled pillowcase for a standard size pillow. It’s not particularly fluffy, but makes the board you’ve been given to sleep on a good deal more comfortable. It comes in several colors so you remember to take it with you. It has saved my life on numerous occasions. |
shouldbewriting, I have the same pillow and agree with all you wrote. Someone posted on Fodors long ago and I bought it. I will check out the Company Store. I could use a new one!
|
I bought this one and it worked for me.
Two trips last year, US to Vietnam and Kenya. Way better than nothing!
|
That looks comfy!
|
gomiki, here is where I likely found out about it too. |
My Husband and I bought the one linked in the first post, after my daughter and son-in-law used one on a flight from NYC to New Zealand. They loved them.My husband likes it, me not so much, but that's just cause I don't sleep much on a flight anyway,
|
I bought the turtle pillow and never wound up taking it on my trip. It seemed akward to pack and I tried it at home and it was not helping the hanging head thing like it's supposed to. I find the soft u pillow that clips together so you can hang it from your suitcase the easiest to bring along. And at the price of 15 dollars, if I lose it, I lose it.
|
Hey, kureiff: did you ever get the footrest thing you linked above? Flying transatlantic economy in a couple weeks &, having been spoiled by business class for the last few years, I'm not looking forward to it.
|
DH and I both have those Turtl neck pillows. We bought them for transatlantic flights but haven’t needed them yet because we always end up springing for first class lie flat seats. It doesn’t make sense for us to go on a vacation and be sleep deprived and miserable for the first day or two. We don’t travel that much now and are older, tireder—and fussier, TBH.
|
Thanks, kswl. I have a travel pillow that I'm okay with; I was actually referring to the footrest that kureiff recommended in post#2. .
(Were I able to afford first class seats, I assure you that I would have no qualms about springing for them -- especially because I completely agree with your comments about being sleep-deprived and miserable for the first day or two. But we gotta do what we gotta do.) |
** I was actually referring to the footrest that kureiff recommended in post#2. .**
I was looking at Kristina's blog the other day and she had a footrest recommended. It was more inflatable type. Here's the link with a pic (she has a clickable link to order beneath the pics). https://www.wired2theworld.com/2023/...re_Comfortable |

I'm not tall (5'6" to you non metrics) and I just can't imagine having the leg room for either the sling thing or the blow up footrest in cattle class.
Most people use U-shaped pillows the wrong way round - they have the opening at the front, when it should be at the back. I used to put my under seat personal item on the tray with coat/sweater or similar over the thin cushion they issued, to soften it a bit and slept with my head on that if I was unlucky enough not to get a window seat. |

I think a couple airlines have banned those sling type foot rests because it bothers the people sitting in front of you.

It's probably a pipe dream to think there's any way I'm going to make an 11-hour flight in economy comfortable. |
The 11 hour flight to and from SF was one of the reasons we decided we didn't want to fly any more, even after forking out a bit extra for premium cattle class on the flight home.
You just have to get through it as best you can and know you have a fabulous trip planned at the end of it. 38" is generous, must be premium cattle class, normal cattle class is only 31-32". That is real agony. If you really have 38" then one of those footrests should fit. |
** We're flying from SF; we've got 38" leg room (Virgin Atlantic) and I'm pretty anxious about it.**
That's quite a bit more than regular economy seats on the major airlines. They are typically 30-32. You can probably message Kristina on Fodor's and ask about that footrest. I think she was using it for a long flight (west coast to somewhere to Asia?). Since the link says 2 for $16, it's not like it's much money and they seem to fold up pretty small. My BIL would always take a blow up pillow that was covered in some kind of flock. It seemed to hold up pretty well over multiple trips. Those footrests look similar. |
Yes, it’s 38” in Virgin Atlantic “premium economy” — for which we’re paying almost as much as we paid for business class, same trip, in September 2019. (And this time I actually booked more than 3 months ahead of flying, which I never bothered to do in the past.)
Poor little entitled me.😎 |
$89.99 when you can just roll up a sweater and secure it by tying the sleeves?
I tried to use a U-shaped pillow, but it makes me feel hot. I still use it occasionally, but mine is inflatable, an old... I think Eagle Creek. |

I like a travel pillow with hood and pocket as it is comfortable, convenient, and blocked light and noise. The pocket made it easy to store my phone and earplugs, while packing it in my carry-on was not an issue. The only con was the price, but it was worth it for the added features.
