Machu Picchu in January
Hi there, I will be in Peru in January before I head over to Rio for Carnaval and I want to do Machu Picchu while I am there and want to know what people's experiences have been at that time.
Is there a specific trail that is better at this time of the year? Or with the unpredictable weather - would it be better to do the train? I will be backpacking on a budget so if anyone could recommend options that would be great. Thanks :) |
We were there in January 2012. It hardly rained at all. Though I suppose that is rather anecdotal.
I would bring along a good rain cover for my backpack. |
I was there in a January and had little rain. The next year the tracks washed away and they airlifted tourists out of Aguas Calientes.
Being an El Nino is in the offing (90%) I would be reluctant to book nonrefundable Inka Trail permits and might go with the train. |
Thanks for the advice! The train at that time of year seems to be the best consensus from everyone I have spoken to.
