Giovanna: If there are any changes, I'll call your hotel and let you know.

Happy New Year and have a wonderful trip.

Giovanna Dec 28th, 2009 10:45 AM

Thank you avrooster. Look forward to meeting everyone and also seeing beautiful Buenos Aires again!

Scarlett Dec 28th, 2009 11:12 AM

Although you have gone from wanting to be off the beaten path to an extremely touristy venue, I think you will enjoy the view and the restaurant.
I hope there will be plenty of photographs taken and reports posted :D

avrooster Dec 28th, 2009 11:35 AM

If everyone agrees, I'll make the reservation. I'll wait at least a couple of weeks, before doing so, in case someone else joins us.

MsLizzy Dec 28th, 2009 03:08 PM

Thanks Avrooster! Now . . .about the tour, I'll be sure to take photos for Scarlett . . .LOL

avrooster Dec 28th, 2009 03:20 PM

Your tour has been cancelled.

avrooster Dec 29th, 2009 01:06 AM

Just kidding, as usual. LOL!!

Chef Elf Doug's opinions are of particular interest.

The number of deleted posts in that thread is remarkable.

Just to be sure we end up at the correct restaurant on the correct date and the correct time, correct me if I'm wrong:

Sottovoce in Puerto Madero, Monday, January 18th at 8:30 pm

Is this correct fellow GTG participants? (:

avrooster Dec 29th, 2009 07:46 AM

I'm not sure I qualify as a "fellow", but, as far as I know, the date, time and venue are correct.

Don't worry so much, Giovanna. I'll most likely pick up you & DH in my car, which seems to attract so much attention in this forum.

BTW, it can hold FIVE normally sized persons, not FOUR. So, depending on my mood (LOL) and whether or not my DW comes along or not, I MAY pick up another couple.

Giovanna Dec 29th, 2009 08:00 AM

Sounds wonderful avrooster. Thank you so much.

AndrewDavid Dec 29th, 2009 03:26 PM

my 2 centavos

i am sorry that i will be in cold (5 C) but currently snowless Victoria BC whilst you are all enjoying lovely warm Bs As.
when we were there 2 years ago for our honeymoon we ate at both sottovoce puerto madero and amici miei. i remember a dreamy long sunday lunch on one of balcones por dos @ amici miei watching the market and enjoying wonderful cucina italiana in the cool shade. we ate at sottovoce on a busy saturday night and while the service was good , the food was just ok and they had a very hard time turning down their very loud music. we were outdoors so the people watching was good.

buen ano a todos

AndrewDavid

It's hatd to feel bad for you AndrewDavid even though you're experiencing cold weather. We love Victoia and I think would enjoy it as much in the cold as we did in the summer, with all the beautiful flower beds, and baskets hanging from the lamposts. The water taxi ballet, the rabbits bounding about on the campus grounds, jazz at a lounge in the Empress Hotel, and so many other wonderful memories. Wish you could join us, but you live in a wonderful city!

AndrewDavid Dec 29th, 2009 10:15 PM

giovanna, believe me i am not complaining about living in sweet victoria. despite the current coolness we do have the mildest weather in canada
buen ano

MsLizzy Dec 30th, 2009 02:37 PM

AndrewDavid,

Are you suggesting we review the choice of venue for the GTG. I REALLY would not want to end up at a touristy, annoying place. In a city that prides itself in restaurant choices I would hope we can come up with something with great reviews. Do you have any other suggestions?

At the risk of annoying you avrooster, has anyone heard of Il Matterello (Italian)in La Bocha or El des nivel (Palleria) I saw them on a Rudy Maxa's dvd

Giovanna, I agree with you. I have a hard time feeling sorry for AndrewDavid. 5 C with no snow .....last night negative 16, wind chill factor negative 23. About a foot of snow on the ground and an ice 'storm' a few days ago that broke many tree limbs and one is still stuck in front of my door that I have to navigate around. Don't ask. LOL

I am not whining because I know in a few short days I will be better off than my neighbours. My plans are all firming up so I will be able to relax while I am there. One month in B A with a little break half way to the Mendoza Valley.

Hasta la vista !

drdawggy Dec 30th, 2009 03:06 PM

Sottovoce...que rico! Really good food...even in the touristy location in Puerto Madero! Good choice....

avrooster Dec 30th, 2009 04:33 PM

The world-famous TOP Internet Argentina expert has given his seal of approval to Sottovoce.

I have no idea who Rudy Maxa is and I don't care to know, but does anyone think he knows more than drdawggy?

AndrewDavid Dec 31st, 2009 12:33 PM

MsLizzy

in my opinion you can't really get a bad meal in argentina and besides wherever you all dine you will be dining w/ fellow travel enthusiasta and citizens of the world and will have a greeeeeat time even if the restaurant is serving slops ala mode!

buen ano
AndrewDavid

ps there is a seasonal cable tv channel mainly seen at convenience stores that shows bad weather in the east; we keep warm out here due to our extra layer of smugness :)

condu Dec 31st, 2009 01:52 PM

Comforting isn't it! It is hard to be humble when living in one of the most beautiful spots in the world. Vancouver Island!

AndrewDavid Jan 1st, 2010 12:55 AM

but easy to be happy

happy new year condu!
