The protest rhkkmk was watching and photographing was in front of his elegant hotel, the Sheraton Park Tower.

Later, the protest moved elsewhere and became more violent.

Thank you Avrooster. That was an interesting article. Sounds rather rough indeed. Is it typical for workers to demand a 28% increase? I know inflation is bad, but still.

avrooster May 5th, 2009 10:17 AM

Yes, it is typical, WillTravel.

We have now having comparatively mild inflation.

Most foreigners don't know what REAL inflation is.

How about 50%?

Per year? NO

Per month? NO

Per week? Just about. In 1975.

Well, I may be exaggerating a little, but you get the idea, I imagine?

Above I said:

"We have now having comparatively mild inflation."

Obviously, I meant:

"We ARE now having comparatively mild inflation."

Avrooster, I was just a kid, but I remember reading some stories about Argentina's hyperinflation back then.

the demonstration outside the park tower was mild, i guess, but having never seen such actions real time before i was very interested.....karen kept telling me to come inside, but i moved closer and closer and took tons of pictures... until they started hurling things over the barriers and setting off powerful firecrackers and flinging them onto hotel property...

i am told that this is a common occurance and that from day to day they move the demonstrations from one place to another....we saw 4 in three weeks....in fact on the way to the airport last evening there was a huge one which had closed off one of the major roads near the center of the city and delayed us about 20 minutes....thank goodness our driver was skilled and knew the city well...

personally i would fire the whole lot of them and put them in training camps....that aught to get some of you going....

i only hope that this type of labor unrest will not spread, but i fear it may....

avrooster was very informative about the current and past situations in argentina....it was a real history lesson...

About:

"personally i would fire the whole lot of them and put them in training camps....that aught to get some of you going...."

I believe it is likely they are paid agitators, not real workers, so they were actually doing their job....

I would simply do to them whatever the law says should be done, which I guess should be put them in jail, where they belong.

what happened to the "far kinder and gentler" man avrooster has grown to be??

avrooster May 8th, 2009 03:46 AM

Most people I know say avrooster "has grown to be" older and crankier, which is simply normal, instead of "far kinder and gentler". LOL!!!
