Mine has a CD player.

Good to know. Maybe they’ll keep that and start making a standard too by the time I need one. Though I’m not sure we’d buy an AWD car once we leave snow country. |

My new car is a Hyundai Tucson which I love for road trips (most recently LA to ABQ via 40 one way and 10 on the return). I didn't opt for AWD/4WD and at times I wish I had it for the above reason. I have my 2006 Impreza with very low miles (like under 75K) although there have been a number of issues such as clutch failure and now valve cover gasket. Since so few people drive manual transmissions any more I use it for an "urban vehicle" and don't even bother to lock it anymore. I tried the Crosstrek but found the driving position and seat support just as bad as the Impreza. |
We live on a dirt road and it gets muddy in Spring, and theAWD helps then. Other than that road, which im moving from, i so rarely drive off paved roads that at this moment i cant think of any. But I figure i have another several years on this car, so who knows what I’ll want. We’’ve rented Tucsons and liked them. |

i didnt know subarus still came with CD players! My 2010 (manual transmission ) legacy only has 117,000 miles on it( many in snow) so i am far from needing a new one, but I love and use the CD player. As for manual transmission and the 2019 Crosstrek, it comes in both the base model and the premium model, but not the highest-up model. Subaru owners wanted CD players and also manual transmission. I saw a youtube video of a Subaru saleswoman introducing the new 2019 Crosstrek in 2018 and commenting that Crosstrek owners would be happy to know that Subaru listened and included CD players in some models. I was thrilled as I have many dozens of CDs and some are foreign-music CDs. I also have some foreign-language CDs as I used to listen to foreign-language instruction CDs a lot as I drove. When I go to the Los Angeles car show next month, I’ll check to see if the newer Subarus have CD players . But, I don’t know when the 2020 Crosstrek will be released. I haven't seen it yet and as for the Subaru commercial, the one that they're showing is the same one that I have which is the one with the dogs going to the hot dog stand. The color is cool khaki gray, but looks blue in day light and more gray in sunset light. Happy Travels! |

Thanks everyone for all your advice. I've decided not to bother with chains at all. If I need them for the freeway, then as Jubi said, I need to get off the freeway and find a hotel until the road is cleared.
Seconded by me in #3. My ex bought her second LLBean edition Outback with both a CD player and a cassete player! That was the newest technology at the time! LOL I thought she was an idiot for buying a new Outback when the "old" one only had 70K miles on it, but that was the highest mileage she's ever put on a vehicle and it made her nervous. I told her that she had just broken the thing in. :-) |
I didn't realize CD players were old school, but I guess everyone has Bluetooth and smartphones with playlists now. (The Hyundai does have a CD player).
After driving nothing but manual transmissions for 40+ years, I finally had to give in to an automatic due to the clutching aggravating my lumbar radiculopathy. I am still learning how to drive an automatic on windy mountain roads! |

Manuals are all fun and games...until your knee goes out. ;)

Manuals suck in San Francisco!
|
I drove a manual for MANY years, but like tom42, got tired of shifting while sitting in rush hour traffic and switched to automatic. It took me a couple year to stop reaching for the stick and the clutch pedal.

It’s nearly impossible to find a CD player in a 2019 vehicle. I did my research before buying my 2019 Subaru Crosstrek Premium although I knew that I really wanted to buy another Subaru. But, out of curiosity, I checked out other car makes/models. Aside from the CD player that my 2019 came with, the updated technology for the entertainment system also came as standard equipment on my premium model which is the middle model as there’s the standard, premium, and the top model. In 2018, CD players only came on the top models of the Crosstrek, but Subaru owners complained so they were added to both the premium and top models for 2019. Below is what's included in my 2019. It's great to have choice. SUBARU STARLINK® 6.5-inch Multimedia Plus system with Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, Pandora® and Aha™ smartphone app integration[1], STARLINK® cloud-based applications including Yelp, iHeart Radio®, and Magellan® navigation, SiriusXM® All Access Radio and Travel Link®[7], high-resolution LCD touch-screen display, AM/FM/CD player, USB port/iPod® control, Bluetooth® audio streaming and hands-free phone connectivity, and 3.5-mm auxiliary jack Happy Travels! |
I have all that too! My CD player is one narrow slot. I didn't think there was one, then my daughter said that there was. Haven't tried it yet, but with Sirius I don't know that I'll need it. They were great for trips which took you out of radio range and driving to Vegas we'd just play CDs the whole way.

Great to know that they also included the CD players in the 2019 Subaru Foresters, Barbara. :)
Happy Travels! |
We will now be able to leave a couple of days earlier, in fact probably Dec 14. This is great as it means we won't be rushed at all getting to Missouri. The reason we can leave sooner isn't so good though.
My daughter had a huge seizure last Thursday morning, beginning before I was awake. I heard some odd noises, but I thought it was my noisy next door neighbors, but once I was dressed and walking past her bedroom door, I realized it was my daughter. She must have been seizing for at least 20 minutes by then, so I called 911. When they put her in the ambulance, she wasn't breathing and they had to bag her. It took a few hours for her breathing to settle down in the ER, then they admitted her to ICU. She has epilepsy, but has never had a seizure like this. She has about one a year usually and they last for a couple of minutes max. She was allowed to come home on Friday afternoon and will follow up with her own neurologist at UCSD on Wednesday. But, she's very unstable and she has lost her memory. She can't remember anything from before the seizure. She can do things like use her phone, computer, from habit, I suppose, but if you ask her a question, she won't know the answer. She didn't; remember which college she was attending or which classes she was taking. We talked to the dsps coordinator this morning and withdrew her from all her classes. Not being able to remember things is frustrating her and upsetting her. Her classes were ASL and she doesn't remember any of it right now. I hope it comes back. |
That’s very disturbing and scary. I hope she recovers her memory soon and that this type of seizure does not recur. |
Thanks, jubi. It was and is very scary.
|
That sounds very frightening. Thinking of you and your sister!
|
kureiff, thanks (daughter! lol!)

Barbara, this is terrible news. How very frightening for your daughter and you. I hope her memory loss is super temporary and she is able to return to school next semester. We are all thinking of you and wishing the best.
I've enjoyed reading along with your X country trip planning. I bought a Forester last month and learned via this thread that it had a CD player. Thanks for that! |
