Samba - I know what you are saying, I just thought it was kind of funny that I mentioned what I'd do and you said you disagree - as in, you didn't think that's what I'd do ;) I do agree with you that the beach in Tulum is nicer than the beach in Akumal. But FOR ME, if I am going to the beach, I want to stay on the beach - so if Tulum beach was too expensive, I'd pick a different beach. Maybe I have a slightly different perspective because I have spent time on other parts of the Yucatan Peninsula that aren't as touristed, so I have had plenty of opportunity to talk with local people, learn about the culture, experience festivals, and so on. When I have time at the beach, I want to be at the beach - wake up in the morning and put my toes in the sand.

h i there, off of trip advisor/bookings.com and expedia we've put together the week of 10 december

first night: Marques del Valle , Valladolid (US $80.)

nights 2-4 DiamanteK sea view shared bath 2 beds on the beach at Tulum (US$ 125)

nights 5&6 Villas Ecotoucan at Laguna Bacalar (US$ 75)

last night Comfort In at aeropuerto Cancaun (US$ 91. for our early am departure home to Victoria BC)

the only real expense was Diamante K but my travel partner insisted we be on the beach lol
